JUNIOR SCHOOL
Hello All,
SPECIAL
POINTS OF Great to be back after a break. I hope you managed to recharge your batteries? Can you
INTEREST: believe we are in to the final half term of this academic year. It seems to have run away with
us!
PTA BBQ &
Talent Show Our Value focus for this half term is 'Responsibility'
Friday 22nd and I am leading assemblies discussing the 10 keys
to find joy and make our lives the best they can
June be. It is our responsibility to own our own
5.30pm – happiness and joy. Yes, it is important to lean on
7.30pm others but we are in overall control. I know it may not always seem like that! I bought an
amazing book called, '50 ways to feel Happy' and it is full of really helpful things to talk to our
Sports Day children about. The author Vanessa King wanted to explore happiness and find out how to
Tuesday make everyone feel happier.
26th June
2018 The good news is that scientists have been working on this topic and they have discovered
many different activities and ways of thinking that can lead to us all having a happier life. Can
we be happy all the time, I hear you say? Well we know that it is not realistic. Struggles and
difficulties are part of life too. Sometimes things happen that naturally mean we feel sad,
angry, upset or afraid. It is important to note and talk with the children about not ignoring our
feelings and learning about how to respond and look for people around us to help.

The first 'key' to happiness we are discussing this week is 'Giving'. I think it is amazing that
scientists have found that when we do kind things for others, not only does it help them to feel
happier, we feel happier too! In fact science shows that helping others can have the same
effect on our brain as receiving a gift ourselves or eating our favourite food! I find too, helping
others can also take our mind off our own worries.

In assembly, we talked about a few things that they can do. They could open
doors for one another, help at home without being asked. They could draw a
picture or write a card and send it to someone to cheer them up. It might be
just as simple as smiling at someone! Have a chat with them about the other
things that they could do maybe? Look out for the other 'keys' to follow in
coming weeks.

Starting to look forward to our Summer BBQ and talent show on Friday
22nd June. It begins at 5:30. There are lots of acts coming forward for the
talent show, if your children fancy being part of it and have not taken a
letter then ask them to come to me to pick one up.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Norton

I have the freedom and choice to be ambitious for my future

Punctuality Welcome back to the final half term of this school year!

The work being done with the children now in school is just as important as everything else done
earlier in the year so this not a time to start letting standards slip. We still expect children in
school and ready to start learning at 8.50am each day.

This week Sycamore House won the Time Keeper's Award with only 2 late marks. Oak were
close behind with 3 whilst Chestnut had 5.

This weeks individual Attendance Awards go to George W for 100% attendance and Maisey
W for improved attendance and time keeping.

Parental monitoring/controls Come and join the fun!
FRIDAY 22nd June
We are hearing an increasing number of concerning 5.30pm—7.30pm
reports about pupils from our school using bad
language over social media. On occasions this has BBQ and Talent Show
been used in threatening ways, at other times as Refreshments available
part of 'normal' conversations.
Organised by BJS PTA
We have also been made aware that some pupils
are accessing age inappropriate material on the
internet.

PLEASE can parents make sure the parental controls
are in place on all devices used by children and that
you are regularly checking on what they accessing/
doing on line.

If you have concerns or need support around
internet safety please either contact school and
speak with Mrs Hodgson or Mrs Thomas or look at
our 'on line safety' page on the school's website
(www.biltonjuniorschool.co.uk) You can also find
support on the Internet Matters page attached with
the bulletin.

Thank you to all those that
supported the school disco before

the half term.

We raised just over £500 for the
school.
