B U L L E T I N HeadlinesThe weekly newsletter to keep you updated with the highlights of
the school week

Dear Parents and Carers,

PoIninttesreosft This week has been such an important week, we have been
focusing on children’s Mental Health in conjunction with the
9thSLaooffoearkFceIotinbniutvvretioutrfinloeaversertldytodotwasgyieothtf charity, Place2Be. It has brought our own mental health starkly
in to focus. I have heard so many times about when we are on an
aeroplane, we must put our own oxygen mask on before we help
others. Do I do it…I try. So, I am setting us a challenge… Evidence
suggests there are steps we can take to improve our mental health
and wellbeing. How about trying some of these things with me?

Connect with other people -Good relationships are important for
our mental wellbeing. They can help us to build a sense of
belonging and self-worth, give us an opportunity to share positive
experiences and provide emotional support and allow us to
support others. There are lots of things we could try to help build
stronger and closer relationships:

if possible, take time each day to be with your family, for example, try arranging a fixed time to eat
dinner together

try switching off the TV to talk or play a game with your children, friends or family
make the most of technology to stay in touch with friends and family. Video-chat apps like Skype
and FaceTime are useful.

Be physically active - Being active is not only great for our physical health and fitness. Evidence also
shows it can also improve our mental wellbeing. Let’s try:

https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/

100OGuorrocehdmaCacaeDlhplmeetoneaoudgritnyesinoTtoof m Learn new skills -Research shows that learning new skills can also
improve your mental wellbeing by boosting self-confidence and
raising self-esteem, helping us to build a sense of purpose and
helping you to connect with others. Even when I feel like I do not
have enough time there are lots of different ways to bring learning
into our lives.
Some of the things we could try including:

try learning to cook something new. Find out about NHS tips
https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/?tabname=recipes-and-tips

work on a DIY project, such as fixing a broken bike, garden
gate or something bigger. There are lots of free video tutorials
online. I am into furniture painting!

try new hobbies that challenge us, such as writing a blog,
taking up a new sport or learning to draw!

Give to others- Research suggests that acts of giving and kindness can help improve our mental
wellbeing.
It could be small acts of kindness towards other people, or larger ones like volunteering in your local
community. Some examples of the things we could try:

saying thank you to someone for something they have done for you
asking friends, family or colleagues how they are and really listening to their answer
spending time with friends or relatives who need support or company

Plantagenet Drive, Rugby, CV 22 6LB Pay attention to the present moment- Paying more attention to the present moment can improve our
Email: mental wellbeing. This includes being mindful with our thoughts and feelings, our body and the world
around us. Some people call this awareness ‘mindfulness’. Mindfulness can help us enjoy life more
[email protected] and understand ourselves better. It can positively change the way we feel about life and how we
approach challenges. As a Christian I spend time in prayer and enjoy creation around me.

I don’t mean to sound like I am teaching granny to suck eggs! There is no right way of doing any of the
above and I admit making time for all of the above is very tricky. If all else fails a bar of chocolate will
also help me a great deal :-)

Take Care, Mrs Norton and the Team
