Headlinesthe school week

PoIinnttesroefst Hello and a huge welcome back to academic year 2019/20! It is great to be back. A special
welcome to our new Year 3 families.
M3W:o3Mne0Tdul3-ec4ae:e3posy0td.4mmi9-a:n4.39,yep0g.Y41.1psm90r:.34m.-,90-Y.Y.p14r9r.6m3:1–5-. -Y4r:515-
We hope that your time here at BJS is the best we can make it. We will not always get
it right but are keen to make amends where we can.

I had a really good break and a bit of a rest and
am raring to go!

Changes since we were last here include brand new
toilets/lots of cleaning/curtain refurbishment/air
conditioning in four classrooms and lots more.
The toilets have to be my favourite. I have been
here for 16 years and used to teach where
Mrs Stevens is currently. I know what a difference they will make. A huge thank you to the
people who worked on all of our improvements and to Mrs Strefford who orchestrated all the
work! Thank you too, to the children in year 6 who came to say 'Thank you'.

New also for this year are some new strategies we
plan to use in school. Having read a fabulous new
book in the holiday called 'When the Adults Change,
Everything Changes'. I fancied trying a few new
things. It is a book written by behaviour expert,
Paul Dix.

SchAdatroeghetaoeaailinalllcs, csstlaituevanebirdttaisietlnilsmgtsheeesctiinon The first is 'Quiet and Calm' as we
are now a quiet and calm school with specific zones. Ask your children for more
information and what it means to them to be quiet and calm :-)

The second is that we use 'Wonderful Walking'. We would like children to always walk around
school purposefully and calmly. They also need to be looking where they are going so they
are keeping everyone safe. We are looking to see 'Wonderful Walking' in school and on the
bricked area at all times. All adults will be noticing when they are ‘Wonderful Walking’ and
will praise them. When they have forgotten they will remind them with…‘Please show
'Wonderful Walking'and will send them back so that they then can praise them
walking wonderfully...

Thirdly, we are looking for 'Over and Above' again in an effort to relentlessly look for things
to praise children about. When we spot them being helpful, caring, thoughtful, respectful
and ready for learning we will thank them for their hard work. 'Over and Above' is looking
for the children who are really going the extra mile for others.

I realise this might seem a little old fashioned to a few of you and some may say we already

Plantagenet Drive, Rugby, CV 22 6LB have these values...I am just keen to make it consistent so BJS can continue to strive to be
the best place it can for your children. Anyway, I am always looking to improve on what
Email:
[email protected] we do. Please look out next week for a way that you can help school to continue
to improve too.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Norton

Features Message from Robert
Macfarlane

I wanted to write to write to thank you for your lovely,
generous, heart-lifting message about our book The
Lost Words, and how the children there have
responded to it. I couldn't believe the variety of
technique and vision apparent in the art you sent!
Incredible. Everything from field-guide style studies
and notes, through a Flower Fairies attentiveness to
the bluebell, to the sequinned wren. Fabulous. Jackie
and I have been so heartened to see The Lost Words
producing such a creative responses in terms of art,

music and words, at a time when the arts broadly are
under budgetary pressure in our schools.

Thank you for sharing this, and please send my
congratulations to your teachers and your pupils

alike.

Help name our hare!

In July Tony Davies,Artist in
Residence, joined the
children at school to

work with them to produce
their very own 5ft hare,
which now has pride of
place in the school’s
meadow area!

Can you help name
him/her?

There is a box in school for you to
post any ideas you may have
