What is Illustration ?
illustration is a decoration, interpretation and
visual explanation of a text, concept or
process of designed for integration in print
and digital published media, such as
posters, flyers, magazines, books, teaching
materials, animations, video games and
films. An illustration is typically created by
an illustrator. Digital illustrations are often
used to make websites and apps more user-
friendly, such as the use of emojis to
accompany digital type

Function and Important
of Illustration
Function of Illustration
Graphic illustration applies the classic design principles of color, form, shapes, and layouts to
organize and showcase original artwork. Like graphic design and illustration separately, graphic
illustrations help to express ideas visually, clarify concepts, sell products, educate and promote.
Important of illustration
Illustration assists people's minds in understanding large and small concepts. Illustrators translate
the written word into visuals that are easy to understand. We know from linguistics studies images
are quicker for the mind to process than sentences, especially long sentences.
How Digital Illustration
makes people communicate
Illustration has been around since the world’s very first deliberated visual
communication: before any written language, in the Palaeolithic period,
mankind already illustrated, in caves, what they saw, felt and did. The
complexity of human perception changed dramatically with evolution, but
illustration still remains one of the most relevant methods to deliver
messages. Its impact in digital communication has actually been growing,
with the increased demand for content marketing elements such as
animations and infographics.
Digital illustration play important part in evolution
Purpose
Illustration is about delivering the right information. There is also information in art, naturally. But while
art might focus on the artist’s perception of the world and might deliver different messages to different
people, illustration has a very clear role and it’s focused on the user: illustration is about sending specific
messages to specific people. It’s about finding unique solutions for unique communication needs.
Focus
Some might think that designing with illustration is not that good of an option with mediums such as
photography and videography available. These are also great options, but it all depends on your focus.
The budget can’t accomodate an original capture, chances are you won’t find exactly what you need: stock
images and footages are great for an easy and on-budget solution, but they are often generic and fail to
represent the specific concept you’re aiming for
Reality with a twist
With illustration, you get a totally open world: you can focus on the features that you want to enhance to better
pass on the message. Illustration can help you bend reality and use approaches like metaphors or plain
exaggeration, which are more difficult to achieve with other forms of representation. Also important to keep a
certain dose of reality in check, so that the human eye can accept it: physics, although they might be bent, are
still essential and every scenario or character created must still obey a certain logic
Storytelling and UX
Illustration must be about how we look, feel, move and think. These are the things that define one of its key
features: uniqueness. Since illustration is designed with a specific purpose and unique features, it naturally
becomes one of the best tools for storytelling: a story definitely gets more interesting as it gets more relatable.
We only empathize with stories that are relevant to our own experience.

BROCHURE,POSTER,CALANDER,
PACKAGING,GREETING CARD,CD
Brochure
A brochure is an informative paper document (often also used for advertising) that can be folded into a
template, pamphlet, or leaflet. A brochure can also be a set of related unfolded papers put into a pocket
folder or packet. Brochures are promotional documents, primarily used to introduce a company,
organization, products or services and inform prospective customers or members of the public of the
benefits.A brochure is a corporate marketing instrument used to promote a product or service offering. It is a
tool that is used to circulate information about the product or service.A brochure is like a magazine but with
pictures of the product or the service which the brand is promoting. Depending on various aspects, there are
different types of brochures, Gate Fold Brochure, Fold Brochure, Trifold Brochure, and Z-Fold
Brochure.Brochures are distributed in many different ways: as newspaper inserts, handed out personally, by
mail or placed in brochure racks in high traffic locations especially in tourist precincts. They may be
considered as grey literature.A brochure is usually folded and only includes summary information that is
promotional in character.
Poster
A poster is a temporary promotion of an idea, product, or event put up in a public space for
mass consumption.Typically, posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a
poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text. Posters are designed to be both eye-
catching and informative. Posters may be used for many purposes. They are a frequent tool
of advertisers (particularly of events, musicians, and films), propagandists, protestors, and
other groups trying to communicate a message. Posters are also used for reproductions of
artwork, particularly famous works, and are generally low-cost compared to the original
artwork. The modern poster, as we know it, however, dates back to the 1840s and 1850s
when the printing industry perfected colour lithography and made mass production
possible.
Calander
A calendar is a system of organizing days. This is done by giving names to periods of time,
typically days, weeks, months and years. A date is the designation of a single, specific day
within such a system. A calendar is also a physical record (often paper) of such a system. A
calendar can also mean a list of planned events, such as a court calendar or a partly or fully
chronological list of documents, such as a calendar of wills.
Periods in a calendar (such as years and months) are usually, though not necessarily,
synchronized with the cycle of the sun or the moon. The most common type of pre-modern
calendar was the lunisolar calendar, a lunar calendar that occasionally adds one intercalary
month to remain synchronized with the solar year over the long term.
Packaging
Packaging is the science, art and technology of enclosing or protecting
products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the
process of designing, evaluating, and producing packages. Packaging can be
described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transport,
warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use. Packaging contains, protects,
preserves, transports, informs, and sells. In many countries it is fully
integrated into government, business, institutional, industrial, and personal
use.
Greeting Card
A greeting card is a piece of card stock, usually with an illustration or photo, made of high quality
paper featuring an expression of friendship or other sentiment. Although greeting cards are
usually given on special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas or other holidays, such as
Halloween, they are also sent to convey thanks or express other feelings (such as condolences or
best wishes to get well from illness).
Greeting cards are usually packaged with an envelope and come in a variety of styles. There are
both mass-produced and handmade versions available and they may be distributed by hundreds
of companies large and small. While typically inexpensive, more elaborate cards with die-cuts,
pop-ups, sound elements or glued-on decorations may be more expensive.
Cd/DVD
CDs and DVDs that enable their label side to be printed
with an inkjet printer. Although all CD and DVD media
can be marked with a soft ink pen, they cannot be
printed across their entire surface.
Booklet
Booklet is one where the pictures enhance the book aesthetically
but add nothing or little to the actual story, the images have a
decorative function. picture books (two words) is one in which the
words and images essentially show the same information.

editorial
Magazines cover,comics,short
stories,novels and textbooks
Magazine
A magazine illustrator creates drawings and images for
magazines and similar publications. Your duties in this
career can include working on cover design and layout,
creating illustrations for articles, drawing editorial pictures
or cartoons, or making stand-alone pieces of artwork.
Comics
Illustrators of comic strips tend to be the writers as well as illustrators of the series. Comic books or graphic novels
may have authors writing the text, but it is ultimately up to the illustrator to integrate the text into the graphic. The
comic or graphic novel genre employs visuals in a series of sequential panels to tell a story. Most comic art
includes text which may or may not be written by the illustrator, therefore they must learn to incorporate the text
and font as part of the overall design.Illustrators of comic strips tend to be the writers as well as illustrators of the
series. Comic books or graphic novels may have authors writing the text, but it is ultimately up to the illustrator to
integrate the text into the graphic.
Short Stories
illustration is a visual explanation of the words that they have discovered for
their short story. It can be an image presented as a drawing, painting, collage
or other work of art that is created as a visual representation.
Novels
The term illustrated novel refers to an extended narrative with multiple images that, together with the
text, produce meaning. Therefore, the illustrated novel is not a work graced by a single decorated cover or
frontispiece.
Textbook
Textbook illustration is an art form that is used primarily to create images
and pictures for books. However, use of illustrations is not just to
beautify books; they are instrumental in enhancing the written content of
the book
Technical Illustration
Technical illustration is a field that involves creating drawings that represent complex, specialized
concepts. Technical illustrations can represent either physical objects or concepts using symbols and
labels. Drawing technical illustrations is a great way to describe information in a visual format to either
supplement text or explain concepts that are difficult to represent with words. You can use technical
illustrations for many types of situations and publications, including:
Instruction manuals
Textbooks
Encyclopedias
Architectural sketches
Engineering blueprints
Computer graphics
Websites
Technical illustrations are useful tools for teaching and explaining technical concepts to the general public.
Professionals such as scientists and engineers also use technical drawings as a way to communicate with
one another. The audience for the technical drawing determines its level of detail and complexity.
Handling Machine
Handling Machine drawing may be defined as the representation
of a machine component or machine by lines according to certain
set rules. A machine drawing generally gives all the external and
internal details of the machine component from which it can be
manufactured. The machining symbols, tolerances, bill of
material, etc. are specified on the drawing

Blue Print,Botany,Maps,Diagram,History
Blue Print
The blueprint process is based on a photosensitive ferric compound. The best known is a process using ammonium ferric
citrate and potassium ferricyanide. The paper is impregnated with a solution of ammonium ferric citrate and dried. When
the paper is illuminated, a photoreaction turns the trivalent ferric iron into divalent ferrous iron. The image is then
developed using a solution of potassium ferricyanide forming insoluble ferroferricyanide (Prussian blue or Turnbull's blue)
with the divalent iron. Excess ammonium ferric citrate and potassium ferricyanide are then washed away. The process is
also known as cyanotype.
This is a simple process for the reproduction of any light transmitting document. Engineers and architects drew their
designs on cartridge paper; these were then traced on to tracing paper using India ink for reproduction whenever needed.
The tracing paper drawing is placed on top of the sensitized paper, and both are clamped under glass, in a daylight
exposure frame, which is similar to a picture frame. The frame is put out into daylight, requiring a minute or two under a
bright sun, or about ten minutes under an overcast sky to complete the exposure. Where ultra-violet light is transmitted
through the tracing paper, the light-sensitive coating converts to a stable blue or black dye. Where the India ink blocks the
ultra-violet light the coating does not convert and remains soluble. The image can be seen forming. When a strong image
is seen the frame is brought indoors to stop the process. The unconverted coating is washed away, and the paper is then
dried. The result is a copy of the original image with the clear background area rendered dark blue and the image
reproduced as a white line.
Botany
Botanical illustration is the accurate pictorial depiction of plants
and plant traits for a scientific purpose (Rix 2012), as opposed to
flower painting, which has no further purpose than to be admired.
The emphasis of botanical illustration is on science rather than
visual art.Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form,
color, and details of plant life. The practice can be traced back to
sometime between 50 and 70 CE when an illustrated book titled
De Materia Medica was created by Greek botanist Pedanius
Dioscorides to help readers identify plant species for medicinal
purposes.
Maps
