The problem of the existence of violence among adolescents is an undeniable fact.
Road accidents and gun violence are the 2 leading causes of death among teenagers.
Group or "gang" violence is becoming more and more common and involves incidents such as a teenager
being shot, beaten, stabbed and so on.
Statistics of the World Health Organization ( World Health Organization ) show that nearly 16 million young
people are exposed to violence in their daily lives.
Statistics in Malaysia show that about 27.4% of teenagers in schools are involved in violence. Nearly 35%
of such violence ends in serious injury.
What are the reasons teenagers engage in violence involving the use of weapons?
A child who lives life in an environment where violence often occurs is more likely to commit violence
against others.
Victims of family violence during childhood are more likely to commit violence in adolescence.
Adolescents who associate with those involved in violent activities can also get caught up in violence due
to peer pressure.
The use of dangerous drugs also invites violent behavior. Those who drink alcohol (alcohol) also often
engage in violent activities using weapons.
Adolescents who are inactive in school activities often skip school and may become involved in violence.
Violent television programs can stimulate such activities among adolescents
Gang. The culture of "gang" and armed aggression is often considered "glamorous" by the media, music
industry, film industry and computer games. This may prompt teenagers to carry dangerous weapons.
How can teenagers avoid getting caught up in armed violence
Parents should not keep dangerous weapons at home.
Parents need to be " role-models " in the technique of dealing with conflict without violence. Parents 1/3
must respect the feelings of teenagers and treat them with mutual understanding.

Parents need to talk to teenagers about the dangers of engaging in acts of armed violence. Encourage
teenagers to get involved in volunteer activities in the community.
Teenagers can talk to parents, teachers, school counselors about how to deal with quarrels and
misunderstandings in a good way without resorting to violence in the form of fights.
Adolescents need to identify situations that can invite violence and avoid running away from such
situations. They can also seek advice from a trusted adult.
Parents can cultivate a high level of resilience among their teenagers. Avoid watching violent television
shows. Dialogue with adults about violent plans and alternative ways to deal with certain incidents in
those plans.
Feelings of anger are normal. However, teenagers need to learn to control their anger so that it does not
end in violence during conflicts. Count 1 to 10 and calm down.
Try to control feelings, only by controlling feelings, teenagers can control provocative situations.
Learn problem solving techniques from trusted adults such as teachers, counselors and family
members.
Learn interpersonal relationship skills . Listen to other people's opinions before expressing your anger.
Respect the opinions of others.
Dare to admit if you did something wrong that offended others. Take responsibility for correcting those
mistakes.
Overcome conflict with the mind. Not with weapons and violence.
Think about the consequences of violent actions including the risk of imprisonment, injury or expulsion.
Enhance your image by improving your life skills.
NEVER bring a weapon to school.
Actively engage in school activities so that the focus is always on beneficial activities.
Engage in uniformed teams such as Scouts, Girl Guides, volunteer bodies and so on.
Do not bring a weapon for a friend. If your friend is involved in armed violence, do not keep quiet.
Inform a trusted adult.

Report to the authorities if you are exposed to violent activity.
STAY AWAY from armed violence.
It can ruin your future
