Position Description
Title: Competitive Sports Manager – Intramurals

Description:
This position is under the direction of the Assistant Director of University Recreation - Competitive
Sports. Competitive Sport Managers – Intramurals will be responsible for researching, developing,
planning and managing all aspects of intramural sports programs for University Recreation.
Competitive Sports Managers will supervise intramural sports officials, scorekeepers, and sport clubs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-
inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and
institutional needs.

• Train, supervise, and evaluate intramural sports officials and scorekeepers
• Develop and implement sport specific trainings for officials
• Enforce all stated & implied policies concerning Intramural participants and spectators
• Prepare equipment and necessary resources for events
• Prepare intramural activity locations
• Supervise intramural events to help mitigate risks and potential incidents, acting as a first

responder when needed
• Assess participants and evaluate results of programs to enhance offerings
• Provide public relations for the intramural sports program
• Research, develop, and implement intramural events and activities
• Assist with the marketing and promotion of intramural sports, including management of web

material and social media
• Assist Assistant Director with event planning and preparation
• Assist with the creation of multi-media presentations as requested, including video

productions, audio productions, presentations, etc.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with departmental events
• Serve on advisory boards as needed
• Assist with planning, implementation, and management of special events
• Provide periodic trainings as requested for departmental staff and participant groups
• Research potentially useful technologies and tools
• Assist when needed with the sport club program
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Training and Experience Required
• A minimum of two academic quarters of work with University Recreation. Special exemptions
may be considered by the Assistant Director of University Recreation – Competitive Sports
• Previous event management experience preferred
• Experience in officiating is preferred
• Experience with Intramural programming is preferred
• Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED is required or must be completed prior to October 1, 2012.

Knowledge and Skills Required
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity and ability to utilize social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to multitask
• Knowledge of imleagues.com is preferred

Physical and Mental Abilities Required
Some aspects of this position are physically demanding and applicants must be able to lift 40lbs or
more, run for 20 minutes without a break, remain standing/walking for long periods of time, and
tolerate Seattle weather conditions.

Performance Expectations
The duties and responsibilities of this position are to be completed in a time efficient and competent
manner to the satisfaction of the Assistant Director of University Recreation – Competitive Sports who
will be directly supervising this position. All employees are expected to communicate using methods
outlined in trainings, know applicable schedules, and be on time for every shift.

Routine audits and evaluations will be conducted by the Assistant Director of University Recreation –
Competitive Sports.

Opportunities will be available to participate in intramural sports offered, but the priority is placed on
working over participating if a conflict arises. This must be understood upon hire.

Attendance at staff and officials orientation/training sessions and weekly staff meetings is mandatory.
All selected staff members must be available during the week prior to the start of fall quarter classes
for Seattle University and University Recreation staff training on September 12-14, 2012.

Compensation Package
Typical working hours: 10-20/week; primarily afternoons and evenings Monday-Thursday with some
days/afternoons; occasionally on Fridays and weekends. Competitive Sport Managers – Intramurals
will be paid hourly for a maximum of 20 hours of work per week and will be compensated at the
Seattle University Student Wage Level 2 rate.
