FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

from the president

David W. Williams

“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors,
and let every new year find you a better man.”

W Benjamin Franklin
e are at another end to a wonderful year at TWHBEA. The banquets are over, New
and Old officers have been seated , and the meetings have been adjourned. We all now
get ready for the quiet of winter and the anticipation of a new Spring and another crop
of wonderful Tennessee Walking Horses.

I would personally like to congratulate all of our Award winners at our 2018 TWHBEA
banquet. Your hard work with your Tennessee Walking Horses does not go unnoticed. We have
a new group of legendary horses added to the TWHBEA Hall of Fame and some very astute
and knowledgeable breeders were recognized for their lifetime achievement of raising Tennessee
Walking Horses.

The most prestigious award a breeder of Tennessee Walking Horses could receive is the
TWHBEA Master Breeder Award. This award is given by a committee comprised of past winners
and our leadership at TWHBEA. Congratulations go to Ray Beech, the Tommy Grider Family,
Kenneth “Pete” Banks and Rock McEwen, the 2018 inductees to Master Breeder ranks.

I am humbled and honored to be returning as President of TWHBEA for my 3rd and final
year in my term. With the help of many dedicated members, I feel the new growth TWHBEA is
experiencing will continue well into the future.

I would like to thank our staff at TWHBEA for a wonderful and productive year. I would also
thank some of our outgoing Executive Committee members whose dedication to the betterment
of TWHBEA was quite evident. Thanks go to Nancy Lynn Greene and Allison Thorson. I also
want to thank Ford Gates who had to leave us earlier in the year. These 3 individuals made
TWHBEA their priority while they sat on the Executive Committee and for that we are thankful.

Again, it’s been my pleasure to serve as your president,

David W. Williams 4
President TWHBEA

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

TWHBEA – Lewisburg, TN

RORY R. WILLIAMS

Executive Director|General Editor

Happy Holidays to you all! December is here already, and the year 2018 AD has flown by like a,
well, like the wind. We at TWHBEA and the Voice of the Tennessee Walking Horse ™ Magazine
have had a wonderful year and thank you all for the business, the time spent in fellowship over such
a wonderful breed of horse and showcasing that breed for the benefit of our own posterity. As the holidays
close, and the new year begins with all the resolutions and “gonna do’s” remember that family and friends
need your support and faith all year long. Be humble in spirt, pleasant in demeanor and do the right thing
for every situation in life.

Now, in our business this year we made some substantial gains in THREE of our metrics that we use to
determine the state of the industry. Registrations and transfers were positive year over year and mares bred,
reported ones, were over 250 greater than the year before at the same time. More than 120 transfers than
in 2017 came in, partly owing to the November sale. (If you like that kind of promotional deal occasionally,
let your state or regional director hear from you.) More than 130 registrations came in over 2017 and we are
very thankful to have all of you doing business with the OFFICIAL breed registry for the Tennessee Walking
Horse. After all, if it’s not registered here, it isn’t a Tennessee Walking Horse.

We anticipate greatly the coming of 2019 and being in the FY 19 already, have begun to track metrics
for budget. This year, as you’ll read later on, we’re operating on a balanced budget of $1.2M. That figure
is arrived at by assumptions made from historical trends analyses to show growth or decline. We think the
industry is growing and have projected our budget to accommodate the growth and excitement amongst the
owners, breeders, trainers and enthusiasts out there in the world. We’re certainly looking forward to having
more TWHs export to Mexico and fill out their ranks of fine horses with even more fine imported Tennessee
Walking Horses.

So, happy holidays to all of you and your families. Be safe and joyful this Christmas season remembering
the greatest gift of all has and always will be HIS love.

God Bless you all.

Attention: TWHBEA Program Changes

On October 18th, 2018, the TWHBEA Executive Committee voted to
amend the Motivated Mare and GO! Gelding programs. Effective immediate-
ly, the programs will now offer a Performance Division and a Pleasure Division
ONLY. The versatility and trail portions have been removed from both Moti-
vated Mare and GO! Gelding programs to eliminate confusion among all spe-
cial programs offered through TWHBEA. If you would like to showcase your
flat-shod Tennessee Walking Horse in any of the 21 different events offered
please join our Versatility Program. If you are looking for the perfect trail pro-
gram TWHBEA offers a Distance Program that is sure to please. You can find
all programs that TWHBEA offers on our website www.twhbea.com under
the association tab -> programs or call the Program Specialist Mallory Maddox

at 931-35-0592.
