EY Curriculum Outline Term 1 2020-21

At Elderbank Early Years we are learning…

At Early Years we learn through play and real experiences, the children have the
opportunity to participate in activities which encourage them to meet a range of
developmental milestones. The play experiences offered are planned to encourage
progression in a range of skills including communication, peer interaction, numeracy and
literacy. Please find information below about some of the learning opportunities in Term 1.

§§§

In the Early Years we will:
* Be learning about our Golden Rules and routines of the day.
* Getting to know our new friends and learning how to take turns and share with our peers.
*Have daily opportunities to participate in outdoor learning and enjoy a healthy snack.

To develop our literacy skills we will be:
*Learning nursery rhymes and songs that have rhythm and rhyme.
*To use small tools with increasing control e.g. scissors, mark making tools.
*To listen and talk within a small group.

To develop our numeracy skills we will be:
*Counting forwards and backwards.
*Naming and identifying 2D shapes and describing some features of the shapes.
*Exploring and experimenting with capacity when using sensory resources e.g. full/empty.

In Term 1 your child’s Key Worker will set personalised targets for them based on their
current stage of development. These targets will be shared with you and you will have the
opportunity to identify any areas you would like your child to develop whilst at Early Years.
We will keep you informed of the progress they are making and provide suggestions of how to
support these skills at home. The Early Years team are looking forward to working in
partnership with you as your child takes the next step in their learning journey.
