David and Pat Enloe helped take the Aqua Boom to a new
level in the 1980s. Both had been competitive water skiers
before they came to Kingsland, but around 1980 they began

The “Outlaws” soon became the highlight of the Aqua Boom
festival as each year’s show surpassed the previous effort.
By 1985, much of the newspaper coverage focused on
Enloe’s Outlaws in the “best Aqua Boom ever.” Kingsland
became famous around the state as a water-skiing center,
and the pyramid of colorfully costumed “Outlaws” on skis
came to be Kingsland’s symbol.

Over the past two decades, skiing has been displaced by
wakeboarding and other water sports, but each Aqua Boom
still features new events and added attractions (the Poker
Run on Lake LBJ, the “Wacky Raft Race,” kayak races,
Sea Doo races and Rubber Ducky races are more recent

a “perch” bridge, meaning the center of the bridge is higher
than the ends. At its highest point, the new bridge is about
five-feet higher than the previous bridge.

Two months into the project, crews set the first beams for
the bridge. Ten beams, 80 feet in length, were set on two
bridge spans. Once the beams were set, the contractor
prepped the surface to place panels and ultimately pour the
driving surface. This process was repeated as additional
shafts were drilled and columns poured.

Just three weeks after raging floodwaters washed away the Crews worked around the clock to rebuild the bridge as
