Message From The Church Pastor:
Pastor Okezie Erondu
hen we set out seeking for a place of worship, little did we know that we will be ending up buying a place of
Wworship in Mount Vernon. We were interested in purchasing a property in the North Bronx area because
most of our members live there. It was our comfort zone and we also called it our “catchment area.” We did
everything in our power to make this dream come true. We inspected every possible property available in the
North Bronx area. We inspected so many properties in this area that we can qualify to be called “certified New York
property inspectors”. But unfortunately, none yielded any desired result.
e decided to build our own church property. We bought a piece of land, drew a dream church but at the end
Wof the day the land and the building plan did not meet our need. We sold the land. We lost about hundred
thousand dollars. We wept bitterly! We felt betrayed and cheated by the Conference and forsaken by the Lord.
ut of nowhere but at the fullness of time we were brought to this property. The owners accepted our offer
Oand asked us to bring a pre-approval letter from the bank. We had none. The Greater New York Corporation
gave them a letter instead and they accepted it. They asked us to bring money, we did not have enough. A bank
loan that we had applied for over three years before and we had totally forgotten about it, just at the time when
they asked us to make our payment the bank responded that they had approved our loan. At the time of sale, the
church sold this property with everything included. We closed on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, and three days later,
on Sabbath March 7, 2015 we were worshipping inside here comfortably with the equipment that belonged to
them. Most of the equipment that we had acquired with the aim to use when we bought our own church were now
to become garbage. The owners of this church sold this church to us and went to rent elsewhere. Yes, they became
renters and we became landlords. Imagine reversal of places. Talk of miracle, First Igbo church is a recipient of the
double portion of the blessings of God. You are here today at a Miracle Center. We have tasted and we have seen
that our God is good. He is a prayer answering God. He is worthy of all our praises.
irst Igbo Church members are a band of Gideon. They are ever ready to take on any task for the Lord. No
Fbattle is too strong for them to undertake because they are servants of “The Greatest Warrior”; and “The
Undefeated Champion of the World.” These members are ever ready to give of their all to the Lord. I thank each
member of this church for your roles, commitment, dedication and devotion. For believing in this course and
never giving up. We have weathered the storm together and today the Lord has blessed us. I will not be able to
mention your names and roles one by one but remember that on that Day the Lord will add stars to your crown
for being a good and faithful servant. May the Lord remember each of you for good in Jesus Name. Amen. You all
are tremendous and marvelous! THANK YOU! First Igbo ndi eji eme onu, First Igbo ndi eji eje mba, First Igbo ndi
Chukwu ngoziri agozi. Unu emela ooo!!!
e will continue to triumph, not because we are so-wonderfully able, but quite simply because this is the
Wwill of the Lord for us. Our biggest challenge had been to find a permanent place of worship. But today
our merciful and gracious God has changed our story from tenants to landlords, from wanderers to occupiers,
from a church of no fixed address to church with an address and sign post; from the church in the wilderness to
a church that has crossed the “Red Sea”, “crossed the wilderness”, and “Jordan river” and arrived to a permanent
place of worship. Today the Lord has turned our water into wine, and has given us “beauty for our ashes” and “oil
of joy” for our pain. He has lifted us and filled our mouth with laughter and rejoicing. Blessed be His holy name.
Halleluiah! God is good!!

the life of each one of us. Amen.
n reviewing our past history, having
Itraveled over every step of advance to hen the LORD restored the fortunes
our present standing, I can say, Praise Wof Zion, we were like those who

with astonishment, and with confidence in Christ laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was
as leader. We have nothing to fear for the future, said among the nations, The LORD has done great

DGreetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It is of great joy to know that you are dedicating the church building for the
glory of God. My prayer for you is that many souls will be brought to the
kingdom through your ministry.
May the community get to know you as people of the Book, transforming
people’s physical, social and spiritual lives. As you reach out to the
community, think of the millions who are shut in homes, prisons and those
from your country of origin. The harvest is ripe, the laborers are few, get
involved in the finishing of the work so we can go home.
Maranatha!
George Egwakhe,
Associate Treasurer
General Conference of SDA Church
n behalf of the administrators and the entire family of the Atlantic Union
OConference, I congratulate you on this milestone of acquiring a new place of
worship. As your theme has stated, “Ebenezer: Not by might nor by power, but by
My Spirit”, it is God who has brought you thus far and through His Spirit, He will
take you all the way. Never lose sight of His guidance and direction because only
He can lead you to the Promise Land.
our work and mission do not stop within the church, but extend to
Ythe community where you are. Whatever the cultural makeup of your
community, you are to make every effort to serve them because the Lord has
given to you a mission to all. Remember that Christ’s ministry was a ministry to
all people.
ay God bless you as you go forward and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you
Min all your endeavors, as you prepare for the soon coming of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.

raises and honor be to our God and Father for His everlasting love and
Pmercy. He redeemed us out of darkness, the cruel slavery of Satan and evil
works, into the kingdom of grace, freedom, joy, light, and peace of His dear Son
Jesus Christ and unto good works.
oday, I rejoice with you as you dedicate the First Igbo Church in the United States of America. I rejoice
Tbecause nearly 100 years ago, the three angels message came to Eastern Nigeria through the ministry and
sacrifice of some American and Europeans.
eloved, I urge you in the name of the LORD, to continue to outdo one another in good works by using your
Bmeans to support God’s work. Continue to make disciples of all nations and raise more disciple-making
congregations as you watch and wait for Christ our Saviour’s return.
urge you to continue to be united and to love one another. I encourage you to preach and maintain the
I doctrinal authority and purity of the apostolic gospel. Do not allow the negative influences of or from the
cultural practices of the place where you live to form you into the mold of the corrupt age, but be pure and live
out the high Christian standard that Christ has set for us.
s you all can see, the events around indicate that Christ’s second coming is nearer than we think. While
AI encourage you to be steadfast in the faith, I would like to send my condolences to those who lost their
loved ones in the Irma disaster that ravaged Houston, Texas and Florida.
ay I also use this time to express my gratitude for your invaluable support for the projects at home,
Mespecially the medical missionary work that you have been supporting since 2015. Please keep it up and
remember the Clifford University project. We have started but we still have great needs.
Children of God, I hereby pronounce all the blessings and prayers recorded in 2 Chronicles 6:14-42 on all of
you and the church building in Jesus name. Amen.

Elder Morakinyo Adaramola,
For the NACA Church”
FIRST IGBO SEVENTH-DAY
ADVENTIST CHURCH,
MOUNT VERNON NEW YORK
Written by Elder Chigozirim Ebere
he Seventh Day Adventist members of Igbo ancestry have resided in the New York City area since the second
Thalf of the 20th Century. Most of them had to travel long distances to attend church services, while others
gave up entirely on this important fellowship with God and man. Many more looked forward to a day they could
worship with the kindred aura they knew before migrating to the United States. However, many years had passed
without the realization of this dream.
hen God’s time came, the writer took up the challenge of reminding our people that the delay had been
Wtoo long. Following in the footsteps of Christ, he began seeking for people to work with. He proposed
the idea to Chief Raymond Etufugh and Jemimah his wife, who embraced the idea and even offered their home
for meetings. However, with their help, a temporary place of worship was secured at 3906 Seton Avenue in the
Bronx—Church of God Mission. The initial believers met on October 14, 2000 for their maiden worship. There
was a record of 50 worshippers including children on that day. This was a clear indication that God was in control
of this new movement.
or the next 2 years, the affairs of this new church were piloted by the coordination of Elder Emmanuel Alozie,
FBrother Chigozirim Ebere, Brother Ishmael Nwogbe, Brother Alozie Ogbonna, and Elder Nnamdi Oriaku by
using the services of guest Pastors and speakers for special events while we deliberated on church organization.
Top on the list of guest speakers during this period were Pastor Roy Gordon, Pastor Young Onwukwe, Pastor
Roland Nwosu, Pastor Hermann Kuma, Pastor Steve Cassimy, Pastor Uzoma Erondu, Pastor Jacob Emezua, Elder
Gabriel Nwogu and Dr. Chinedu Nwakanma to mention just a few.
n March 8, 2003, we were organized as a church by the Greater New York Conference of the Seventh Day
OAdventist Church to its multi-ethnic ministries department. In April of 2006, Pastor Okezie Erondu took over
the leadership of the First Igbo Seventh Day Adventist Church and we have not looked back since then.
ur journey to this church building dedication today started not too long
Oafter our maiden worship in 2000. Although we did not have enough
money, we trusted that the Lord is faithful and will provide the needed resources
if we found a place of worship. At the time, our searches centered mainly in the
Bronx because that is where most of our members lived. But, as we fasted and
prayed, our hopes were continually dashed. Fourteen years of renting church
spaces, school auditorium and even members’ homes were trying times for our
church organization but, we held on to the hope that God knew all about our
situation and that He will make a way at the right time. What we did not know is
the Lord’s plan for us in Mount Vernon.
o, at the right time, the Lord provided a finished Sanctuary at the right
Slocation. May His purposes be put in effect as we work here in Mount
Vernon to His glory! Amen

n this day of our church dedication, on behalf of your children, these words are specially selected to wish
Oyou A Happy Birthday: “ Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her
husband does safely trust in her so that he shall not need spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her
life. She also rises while it is yet night, and gives meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She stretches
out her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches out to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all
her household are clothed with scarlet. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also praises her.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but you excel them all. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman
that fears the Lord, she shall be praised (Proverbs 31 vs. 10-12,15,20-21,26-30)”.
hese passages are carefully selected for the woman I grew up to know as my mother. She is very special in every
Tmanner, in that she makes a positive impact in the life of her children, husband and all that have ever encounter
her. She is full of love, peaceful, patient, tolerant, slow to anger; these qualities help her face any circumstance she
finds herself. My mother is a woman of God; she loves to work for God so dearly.
appy Birthday to the world best mother and wife. We pray that God Almighty will continue to bless,
Hstrengthen, guide, keep, protect and shine his face upon you. May he grant you many more happy, healthy and
fruitful years in Jesus name Amen.

The Journey So Far….
t is important I recognize that I have not reached my designated heights
Iin life yet. However, a reflection on my journey so far shows that my
little achievements are concomitant with my strong belief in a Bible text,
hymnal, my name and trusted friends.
or I know the plans I have for you’’, declares the LORD, ‘‘plans to
Fprosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’’
(Jeremiah 29:11). ‘‘Anywhere with Jesus, I can safely go anywhere He leads
me in this world below. Anywhere with Jesus, I am not alone; other friends
may fail me He’s still my own’’ (SDAH 508). Integrating these infallible
words with prayers (for a defined purpose) while trusting on the tenet
of my name, Chinedu[m] (God leads me) and clinging unto few friends,
pushed me up the ladder of success despite notable impediments.
n brief, how I transcended from passing high school final exams (after I
Ihad left school for 7 years for an apprenticeship) to successfully gaining
admission to study Nursing remains a mystery beyond words. In school, I
was a subject of ridicule for strictly denying myself certain pleasures and living up to my covenant with God,
yet I seemed to be the brightest among equals. Furthermore, post-school days posed a challenge of securing a
decent job. Conversely, by His grace and through the assistance of friends, almost effortlessly, I did one of the
most esteemed jobs at the time and won prestigious awards. To press a little bit further, on what could have
been a defeat of purpose and truncation of my dream, I was almost kidnapped a day before my schedule to
travel to the USA. But God saved me!
nd here I am today in a land I had dreamt of and followed through by His infinite mercy. Here I am
Atoday in a country I was shown in a dream indicating that I am destined to be here to build and establish
my dreams in accordance with God’s will. While I have also made notable strides in this country including
gaining a professional registration as RN after successfully passing the NCLEX-RN national board exam, it is
imperative to know that none of these strides would’ve come through if not for total reliance on God’s grace.
n conclusion, dear friends, axiomatically, I want to end this note with the following. For us to get to our
Idestination in life, it is important we eschew immediate gratification, we must be goal oriented, refrain from
following the crowd and surround ourselves with few faithful friends who share the same mission as ours.
Above all, we must utterly commit our ways to God and trust Him to direct our paths.
also want use this wonderful opportunity to congratulate my own brothers and sisters of the First Igbo SDA
I Church for this great achievement.
Chinedu Ejike, RN
