It all began in a secondary school classroom in London (UK) in 2006. For generations teachers have stuck laminated words on a wall to support literacy exercises. Whilst working as a teacher one of our founders created a program where you could simply type a list of words for the same purpose. 1 01 BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Josh Smith began his career in 2003 in TV as a researcher at Spire TV & Film, as a script editor and researcher with BBC Continuing Drama, and then as a script editor with Kudos TV and Film. He then shifted to Wordwall in 2006, using experience from TV gameshows and the teaching experience of the other founder to create these fun-interactive games through a set of words, where he has continued as a director of Wordwall for 17 years. He also received his education from Jesus College Oxford and Royal Holloway University of London. 2
02 TECHNICAL DEFINITION AND INTRODUCTION Wordwall is an innovative and versatile educational tool that empowers teachers to create engaging and interactive learning activities tailored to their students' needs. With its user-friendly interface, Wordwall enables the development of a wide range of interactive exercises that can be easily integrated into lesson plans. These activities are accessible on multiple devices, making them suitable for diverse learning settings. Whether used for formative assessment, practice, or review, Wordwall enhances the educational experience by promoting active participation and interactive learning. 3
Wordwall is an online tool and platform designed for creating and sharing interactive learning activities. It allows educators to design customized quizzes, games, and educational resources that can be used for a variety of subjects and learning levels. Wordwall supports different activity formats such as matching pairs, quizzes, word searches, and more, facilitating both in-classroom and remote learning environments. 4
5 03 GADGET/OR EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO CARRY OUT THE INSTRUCTIONS Computer or Laptop: For creating and customizing Wordwall activities. Ensures ease of access to all features and tools provided by the platform. Internet Connection: Reliable internet access is essential for using the online platform, creating activities, and sharing them with students.
6 Web Browser: Any modern web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari) to access the Wordwall platform. Ensures compatibility and smooth operation. User Accounts: Teacher account for creating and managing activities. Student accounts if personalized tracking and individual participation are required.
7 04 CLEAR SET OF INSTRUCTIONS TO UTILISE FUNCTIONS Visit the Wordwall website (www.wordwall.net). 01. Sign up for a new account if you don’t have one, or log in if you already have an account. 02.
8 Once logged in, click on the “Create Activity” button. 03. .04Select the template that best fits the type of activity you want to create.
Enter a title for your activity. Fill in the content required by the template you selected (e.g., questions and answers for a quiz, words for a word search, etc.). Use the available options to add images, audio, or other multimedia elements if necessary. 9 .05

11 05 CAUTIONS AND SAFETY NOTICES Data Privacy: Ensure that you and your students do not share personal information on the platform. Be mindful of the privacy settings and control access to your created activities. Screen Time Management: Monitor the amount of time students spend on screens to avoid excessive screen time. Balance digital activities with offline tasks to promote a healthy learning routine.
Content Appropriateness: Review all content before sharing it with students to ensure it is age-appropriate and relevant to the educational goals. Avoid using or sharing materials that could be deemed inappropriate or offensive. Supervised 12 Feedback and Monitoring: Regularly monitor and review student performance on Wordwall activities to provide timely feedback.
