บุพบท (Preposition)

บทนำ

Preposition หรือ คาบุพบท คือ คาที่ใชเ้ ชื่อมความสมั พนั ธ์ระหวา่ งคา ๆ หน่ึง กบั คาอ่ืนในวลี
หรือประโยค ไม่วา่ จะเป็น คานาม คาสรรพนาม หรือคากริยา เพ่อื บอก เวลา สถานที่ ตาแหน่ง
ทิศทาง วิธีการ หรือเหตุผล เพ่อื ใหป้ ระโยคสมบูรณ์ ตวั อยา่ งคาบุพบท เช่น in on at after about
above below over under between by down for from with without เป็นตน้

1. ชนิดของบุพบท (Preposition)

คาในกลุ่ม preposition หรือคาบุพบท สามารถใชบ้ อกเวลา ตาแหน่ง หรือ วิธีการกไ็ ด้ ดงั น้นั
เราตอ้ งเลือกใชใ้ หถ้ ูกตอ้ ง เช่น

1.1 คำบุพบทบ่งบอกเวลำ (Preposition of Time)
เป็นคาบุพบทที่บ่งบอกถึงการแสดงเวลา เช่น ชวั่ โมง วนั สปั ดาห์ เดือน ปี ฤดูกาลต่าง ๆ คา

บุพบทที่พบบ่อย คือ in, on, at, during, from…to…, since, until เป็นตน้

▪ In ใชก้ บั เดือน ปี หรือฤดู ที่เป็นช่วงเวลา เช่น
• I will move to London in August.
• I went to Italy in 2019.
• It is cold in Winter.

▪ On ใชก้ บั วนั เดือน ท่ีบอกวนั ท่ี และวนั สาคญั ต่าง ๆเช่น
• We have a meeting on Friday
• I met her on June 8th.
• He gives me a flower on Valentine’s Day.

▪ At ใชก้ บั ชว่ั โมง เวลาตามนาฬิกาที่เฉพาะเจาะจง เช่น

• She always wakes up at 7 o’clock.
• We will have lunch at noon.
▪ During (ในระหว่ำง) ใชก้ บั ช่วงเวลาหน่ึงเช่น
• What did you do during the pandemic?
• During this month, we must save our money.
▪ From…to… (จำก…ถงึ …) ใชก้ บั ช่วงเวลาหน่ึงไปหาช่วงเวลาหน่ึง เช่น
• I work from 8.30am to 6.30pm.
• It is not far from my house to yours.
• During this month, we must save our money.
▪ From…to… (จำก…ถึง…) ใชก้ บั ช่วงเวลาหน่ึงไปหาช่วงเวลาหน่ึง เช่น
• I work from 8.30am to 6.30pm.
• It is not far from my house to yours.

1.2 คำบุพบทบ่งบอกตำแหน่ง หรือ สถำนท่ี (Preposition of Place)

เป็นคาบุพบทท่ีบ่งบอกถึงตาแหน่งของ คน สตั ว์ สิ่งของ วา่ อยทู่ ี่ใดบา้ ง คาบุพบทท่ีพบบ่อย
คือ in, on, at, above เป็นตน้

▪ In (ใน) ใชก้ บั เมือง ประเทศ และพ้ืนท่ีที่มีขอบเขต เช่น
• She is in hospital.
• I live in Bangkok.
• The flower is in the pot.

▪ On (บน) ใชก้ บั ชื่อถนนและอธิบายวา่ อยบู่ นพ้ืนผวิ ของสิ่งต่าง ๆ เช่น
• My office is on Rama4 road.
• A cup is on the table.
• His photo is on the wall.

▪ At (ท)่ี ใชก้ บั พ้ืนท่ีหรือสถานท่ีท่ีเจาะจงชดั เจน เช่น
• I work at an office.

• You can meet her at the bus station.
▪ Above (เหนือ) ใชก้ บั ตาแหน่งดา้ นบนแบบท่ียงั มีช่องวา่ งระหวา่ งสิ่งน้นั เช่น

• The shelf is above the table.
• I hang a picture above the television.

1.3 คำบุพบทที่ใช้บอกวธิ ีกำร

ในภาษาองั กฤษเราจะใชค้ าบุพบทเพื่อบอกวธิ ีการต่าง ๆ เช่น

• Paul goes to a temple by car.
• We came to the gym on foot.
• They texted each other without speaking.

วิธีการโดยสารส่วนใหญ่เราจะใชค้ าวา่ by เช่น by car, by bus, by plane ยกเวน้ การเดินท่ีเรา
จะใช้ on foot

1.4 คำบุพบทบ่งบอกทิศทำง (Preposition of Direction)

เป็นคาบุพบทที่บ่งบอกทิศทาง บอกการเคล่ือนไหว วา่ มาจากทางไหน หรือจะไปทางไหน
คาบุพบทที่พบบ่อย คือ to, from, into, through, out of, down, up เป็นตน้

▪ To (ถงึ , ไปถึง) เช่น I walk to school.
▪ From (จำก + จุดเริ่มต้น) เช่น My friend comes from UK.
▪ Into (เข้ำไปข้ำงใน) เช่น A man walked into the supermarket.
▪ Through (ผ่ำน, ทะลุ) เช่น A bird flies through the window.
▪ Out of (ออกจำก) เช่น They got out of their car.
▪ Down (ลง) เช่น My father lays a pen down on the floor.
▪ Up (ขนึ้ ) เช่น The sun is rising up in the sky.

นอกเหนือจากคาบุพบทท่ีเป็นคา ๆ เดียวแลว้ ยงั มีกลุ่มคาบุพบทอีก เช่น

3. ข้อสังเกตเกยี่ วกบั Preposition

1. หากพวกเราใชค้ าบุพบทที่เป็นกลุ่มคาแลว้ เราไม่สามารถละคาใดคาหน่ึงได้ เราตอ้ งใชท้ ุก
คา เช่น in front of

2. หลงั คาบุพบท เราจะตอ้ งใชค้ านาม คานามวลี หรือกริยาเติม -ing เช่น

• After the exam yesterday, I felt so much better.
• She will wait for her client until six o’clock.

3. คาบุพบทสามารถอยทู่ า้ ยประโยคไดใ้ นบางกรณี แต่ประโยคน้นั จะไม่เป็นทางการ

• There’s no students left behind.
• Where are you from?
• His mother is someone whom he can talk to.
• Which room are they playing in?

หากเราตอ้ งการจะทาใหป้ ระโยคดา้ นบนใหเ้ ป็นประโยคที่เป็นทางการ เราสามารถพดู ได้

• In which room are they playing?
