Media Report |

October 2017–September 2018

Summary Analysis

The West Volusia Tourism Advertising Authority partners with Benedict
Advertising and Marketing to build and shape a strong, positive media
perception of the area. This continues to be accomplished through a
sustainable effort to pitch relevant stories to the media about the area
and its businesses, as well as constant brand building.

Our comprehensive and clearly defined key messages, positioning and
strategies have earned West Volusia a place among the most prominent
areas to visit in Florida. This is reflected in our media success shown in
this report throughout the area, including the New Wings Murals, the
Stetson Mansion Christmas Spectacular, Museum of Art-DeLand, Blue
Spring, Crappie Masters, FernTrust Artisanal Dinner, Cassadaga Spiritual
Camp and many more.

Return on Investment in Media Relations

The branding of West Volusia though media relations is essential. Press
exposure is an exceptional tool that creates third-party validation of the
brand. It also keeps the media and visitors aware of all the great things
West Volusia has to offer.

DELAND — The West Volusia Tourism Advertising Authority took home a pair of honors, including the top
award for its market size, at a ceremony last week at the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Orlando.
The West Volusia ad authority, one of three tourism advertising authorities that use Volusia County tourism
bed-tax money to market their respective areas as destinations for tourists and special events, was honored
with the Best of Show award for tourism agencies with marketing budgets under $500,000. Presented as part
of the 2018 Flagler Awards, the Best of Show category celebrates the best and brightest in the tourism industry,
paying tribute to those who use their skill, resourcefulness, creativity and innovative spirit to market Florida to
the world.

In addition to that award, one of the night’s top honors, West Volusia also won the Internet Advertising Award.
Both awards were presented to acknowledge the ad authority’s video series, “What’s Up in West Volusia,” which
focuses on what to do, where to stay and where to eat in the area. The series showcases the many natural,
cultural, and historical assets of West Volusia often overlooked or undiscovered by visitors, said Georgia
Turner, the ad authority’s executive director. “We are so honored to receive both these awards,” Turner said in a
new release announcing the honors. “Our ‘What’s up in West Volusia’ videos capture the area’s distinct charm
and it’s wonderful to see the hard work that went into the program recognized by our peers in the tourism
industry.”

The award-winning promotional campaign was a collaboration between the ad authority and its advertising
agency, Benedict Advertising & Marketing of Daytona Beach. Named for famed Florida land developer Henry
Flagler, the Flagler Awards were established in 2000 to recognize outstanding tourism marketing in Florida.
