Screenplay by BETTY COMDEN and ADOLPH GREEN Songs by NACIO HERB BROWN and ARTHUR FREED SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN Welcome to Fairfield Ludlowe High School and our spring production, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN! We are incredibly proud of this cast, crew and pit and all of the hard work they’ve put in to pull off this massive show. Most of these students had never even put on a tap shoe before we announced this show last year, but they were up for the challenge. Many of the cast started taking lessons as early as last summer in preparation, and we hope that they will continue using this new skill - on stage or in puddles! This is a very special show for me personally. Since I assumed the role of Drama Director in 2019, we have been building the program focusing on contemporary shows with unit sets, modern costumes, and small bands of adult professional musicians. This is our biggest show yet and our first attempt at a classic Broadway musical featuring lots of moving pieces, vintage costumes rented from a professional theatre, and a 25-piece orchestra (most of whom are students!) I am so proud of the growth of this program, and can’t wait to see where we go from here! Director’s Note

None of this would be possible without our village of support. Will Jeffries is truly a magic man with set design (just you wait for those upstage curtains to open…) and has made technical theater education the priority that it needs to be. Kim Sadler is the consummate cheerleader and has worked tirelessly to get these beautiful harmonies heard (and keeps all of us grounded and calm!) Our Choreographer, Kelsey Kaminski, has been a miracle worker getting these toes tapping (and demonstrating time steps and wings with a baby in her belly and a toddler at her feet!) Our Costume Designer, Maggie Meath, has taken charge of our largest costume crew ever, all while remaining cool as a cucumber and organized as a wedding planner for a future queen. Sam Eckhardt has agreed to mixing body mics and a live orchestra and floor mics for tap dancing and sound cues and prerecorded movies and using waterproof microphones without batting an eye. My husband, Eli Newsom, has worn more hats than Lina Lamont - playing keys, filming and editing “The Royal Rascal” and “The Dueling Cavalier,” and even teaching the tap workshops that prepared many of this cast for auditions! Our Lighting Designer, Don Rowe, joined us at the start of the week and built an entire show in three days. And Suky Bryan has brought our pit orchestra program back to life and given these students an opportunity to play some of the most beloved Broadway songs of all time. I also want to take the time to thank our absolutely amazing Parent Boosters, who provide endless amounts of support (and tech week treats) and also to the most supportive Principal an arts program could ever have, Dr. Greg Hatzis. Lastly, thank you to YOU for supporting live educational theatre. Whether you know someone in the cast and are here to cheer them on, here because you love the show, or here because you’re a future Falcon and thinking of joining the Drama program, we hope that we make you laugh and smile. I love behind-the-scenes shows that give you a glimpse into the creative process. While nothing from the rehearsal process came anywhere close to what the producers of “The Dueling Cavalier” had to go through, we hope that it gives you a bit more appreciation for the (organized) chaos that is mounting a musical! And now our favorite part--getting to share it with you! Christy McIntosh-Newsom Director

Art by Madeleine Braley

Anjan Athreya (Pit) was inspired to join pit orchestra from watching & hearing the music from Rent last year with his friends. Outside of Drama, Anjan likes to swim, weight-lift, play ping pong & volleyball and program. He’d like to thank Mrs. Bryan for her inclusiveness & dedication as a music teacher, constantly challenging him as an orchestral musician. He would like to thank his parents for encouraging his growth as a violinist. Anjan enjoys runnin’ in the rain. Madeleine Braley (Costumes) has worked on every show during her time at FLHS. She would love to thank Maggie for being such an amazing anchor to the costumes team. Her advice to Falcons: “Everyone is so nice & willing to help so don’t be shy to reach out to people!” When it’s raining, you will find Madeleine jumping in puddles & swingin’ in the rain. Emma Carey (Cast/Dance Captain) joined Drama Club senior year because she has always wanted to do high school theater. "It's never too late to join the Drama Department & it is really so much fun." Emma does school choir & a capella & has been a competitive dancer since 4th grade. Her favorite part of the show has been leading warm-ups during rehearsals & learning all the dance numbers. When it’s raining, she likes to go outside & feel the rain on her skin! Natalie Compare (Cast) has appeared on stage before with the Connecticut Dance School (Ballet), Close Harmony A Cappella & FCCC - but this is her first Drama Club show! She wants to thank her sister, Audrey, for inspiring her to join the show, as well as her parents, Christy, Mrs. Sadler & Kelsey. When it is raining, you will find Natalie reading or taking a nap. Her advice : "FLHS has so much to offer - definitely explore all of the clubs, classes & activities you can!" Mel Dreizen (Pit/Assistant Vocal Director) would like to thank Christy for being her guide throughout these past 4 years as an actor, musician, performer, composer & amateur audition-attender. "I wouldn’t be where I am now without her." She would also like to thank Mrs. Sadler & Mrs. Bryan for helping her navigate this show. If you can’t find Mel, listen & you’ll hear her performing with Jazz Band, Close Harmony, FCCC, or School of Rock, or writing, arranging & recording her own music. When it's raining, Mel likes to stay inside & practice. Reid Fitter (Crew) has done every show in his 4 years at FLHS. His favorite memories include dancing around backstage during “Lord of the Flies” & building & watching the "Romeo and Juliet" houses come together. The last time he was in a show with rain was freshman year out on the football field when it rained halfway through the show . He is thankful for all his Ludlowe mentors - Mark , Will , Sam, & Christy - as well as his parents & Build/Run Crew. Kennedy Klein (Cast) would like to thank her parents for their constant support in all her endeavours. She would also like Ashton Della Porta & Teagan Halpin for making her experience in theatre memorable. Her advice to students: "Do it for the memories and experiences, not the roles." When it's raining, you can find Kennedy splashing people by aggressively stepping in puddles.

Emma McMorris (Crew) would like to thank her amazing, talented friend Will Gallagher & Amy - the best sister she could ask for & the one who got her into Stage Crew/Drama Club. In her 5 shows, she has built everything from a tombstone to a dumpster & has done lighting for the past 3 shows. Her advice: "Never waste a moment, if you think you can do it - then do it." When it's raining, Emma likes to run around & get soaking wet, or do some photography. Oliver Petri (Cast) would like to thank his younger sister, Amanda, who pushed him to join Drama Club. His favorite Drama Club memory was being able to give a speech in-character on his final Romeo and Juliet show with his friends in the audience. He likes to spend his free time playing badminton & hiking. When it's raining, Oliver likes to take in the misty air. Jacqui Pothier (Costumes) would like to thank members of costumes for creating such a strong community that she's very grateful to be a part of. Her favorite Drama Club memories are sitting on the couch & chairs in the costume room during the show & hanging out with people. Outside of Drama Club, she likes to draw, paint & cosplay. When it's raining, you will find Jacqui inside. Bea Rollins (Crew) would like to thank the Cast & Crew members, both graduated & not, for making the Drama Club her first home at FLHS & for making theater something to look forward to. Her advice: "Stick with Drama, no matter which department you choose or whether you choose to be a part of multiple.” When it's raining, Bea likes to stay in & watch the storm while relaxing with friends. She enjoys gaming, streaming, listening to music & hanging out with friends. Zack Rua (Crew) has many great memories from his 7 shows with the Crew, especially freshman year moving set on the football field in the rain. He wants to thank Will for all he does for the Crew. His advice to Falcons: "Do what you find fun. That's what it's all about, no point in doing much else." Zack spends his free time working his retail job & working on cars. Michael Sigal (Pit) would like to thank all those who have brought the Music Department together with Drama Club yet again, this time with a full student pit & ensemble. His advice: "Have fun! Don't allow others' opinions & actions to determine you having fun! Enjoy yourself & do what you love!" Michael is a firm believer in singin' in the rain. He is also an avid reader & writer, and loves to immerse himself in music, culture & conversations with his classmates & mentors. Campbell Treschuk (Crew) has enjoyed hanging a dead body in a tree, chanting "Kill the Pig", building a DeLeorean, dancing to the Wedding Singer bows, and turning the Capulet house in his 6 shows. When he is not on Stage Left, Campbell enjoys Ultimate Frisbee and canvassing for candidates. He would like to thank Will for helping Crew do amazing things & his fellow Crew members for making it such a fun & supportive place. Campbell is a fan of rain walks.
