#5DAY LEADERSHIP
LEARNING CHALLENGE
EVERYDAY LEARNING IN JUST 5 MINUTES A DAY
#5day leadership
learning challenge
Back in August 2018 over a 5 day period, I posted a daily leadership learning
challenge on LinkedIn for any leader to take part in. I made this challenge free and
easily accessible as I wanted people to embrace the principle of learning anywhere,
everyday, rather than expecting their learning as a leader to take place on a course.
What I have done here is put the leadership challenge into an online booklet so you
can participate, wherever you are based, and whenever you discover this.
Each challenge for the 5 days is focused on you and your learning as a leader. The
daily challenge is achievable in 10 minutes or less. Pick a week, start on a Monday
and do a challenge each weekday.
To accompany the challenge I produced a reflective learning log so leaders could
record their thoughts, reflection, feelings about the challenge and what they noticed
about it . In this online version I have incorporated the Learning Log into the same
document so you have the daily challenge, followed by the reflection log for that daily
challenge. I encourage you to use the reflection log, especially if it is not your natural
preference. Undertaking that action will prove to be a learning opportunity in itself.
We all process challenges in a different way and keeping a reflective log is one way of
doing this. There are no rules on whether you use it for a few key notes or choose to
write an essay. You can use it for your private thoughts or if you have a coach, or a
mentor, you may want to share your reflections in your discussions.
At the end of the 5 day leadership learning challenge, you can choose to share your
log with others, with your team, or simply recycle it !
I would love to hear from you on how you tackled the challenges, any insights or
learning you gained over the 5 days and what you would like as the next area of focus.
Happy learning and have fun Angela

Stepping It Up
#Day2 – Leadership Learning
Challenge
Whether or not we are consciously aware , we all exude a certain
level of energy to others around us. This energy impacts how others
choose to interact with us.
Today’s challenge task is:
To notice, reflect & consider – How much energy did you bring
to your work today? Check it now!
What positive impact has this had?
What has stopped you today?
Use the reflective log to spend 5 minutes noting down your
observations and what this means for you as a leader.

#Day3 – Leadership Learning
Challenge
Getting other perspectives on how we lead and impact others is one of the
many ways we raise our awareness and develop. As a leader – do we seek
out this feedback regularly?
Today’s challenge task is:
Ask for feedback from one of your team .... you may be surprised at what
you hear
Spend some time reflecting on what the feedback means for you.
What do you want to START, STOP or CONTINUE doing?
For quick tips on how to ask for this feedback from your team members – see
the reflective log

great questions when asking for feedback:
1) What have I done recently that has impressed you?
2) What is one thing I could do differently which would make a
difference?
REFLECTIONS
What were the positives ?
What could you improve on?
What insights does it give you as a leader?
Day FOUR
you are
not alone
#Day4 – Leadership Learning
Challenge
Being a leader isn’t about always being the hero ! Sometimes it is easy to think
we have to have all the answers and rush to the rescue , giving the solution to
our team. This can create an unrealistic pressure on us as leaders and can
make leadership a lonely place at times.
Today’s challenge task is :
Show some vulnerability, ask for help, before the end of the day,
from a member of your team.
This needs to be something you genuinely need their help with and will require
you to share that you don’t know everything. Try it and see what happens.
Use the log to note your observations and insights

#Day5 – Leadership Learning
Challenge
As we reach the end of the working week, it is a good time to start the day
mindfully with some conscious, focused reflection.
As leaders we experience successes and failures like everyone else. If we take
time to share what we have learned from our experiences it helps us connect
with our team members and build stronger relationships.
Today’s challenge task is:
Find a quiet space and review your leadership year to date. What have
been your successes and your failures, what has given you pride? where
have you had disappointments?.
List your key learning from each of these and share at least 2 of these with your
team.

REFLECTIONS #Day 5 - Leadership Learning
Challenge
success
failure
disappointment pride
Consider :
What themes came up ?
What insights has it given me?
What do I plan to change for the
rest of the year?
Review of the #5 day
challenge
Considerations:
Who am I as a leader?
What new insights have I learnt about myself?
What choices do I now have?
What might I want to experiment with as a leader?
What different decisions will I make ?
I hope you have enjoyed taking part in
this #5 day leadership learning challenge
and you have been inspired to continue
developing as a leader.
I'd love to hear your stories and insights
from this challenge.
