Gerunds Infinitive

เปน็ คำกริยำรูปเตมิ –ing ท่ีทำหนำ้ ท่ีเปน็ เปน็ คำกรยิ ำรปู พน้ื ฐำนหรือคำกริยำชอ่ งท่ี 1 ท่มี ี 2
คำนำมในประโยค แบบคือ

Ex. Stop smoking. - Infinitive with to (มี ‘to’ นำหน้ำ)
Ex. Stop to smoke.

- Infinitive without to (ไมม่ ี ‘to’ นำหน้ำ)
Ex. I can play the guitar.

ใช้เปน็ คำนำมของประโยค ใช้ Infinitive with to เปน็ คำนำมของ
Ex. Eating vegetables and fruits is ประโยค
good for your health.
Ex. To learn is important.

หมำยเหตุ : ส่วนใหญ่ใช้ Gerunds เป็นคำนำมของประโยคมำกกวำ่ Infinitives ดังน้นั เวลำเลือกใช้
ใหพ้ ิจำรณำถึงโทนเสียงและควำมหมำยของประโยคด้วย

Gerunds Infinitive

ใช้เป็นกรรมของประโยค ใช้เปน็ กรรมของประโยค
Ex. I enjoy drawing. Ex. Yesterday, I decided to
draw.

หมำยเหตุ : ข้อสงั เกต : ท้งั Gerunds และ Infinitives เปน็ กรรมของประโยคได้ ต่ำงกนั
ตรงทคี่ ำกริยำทอ่ี ยู่หนำ้ กรรม บำงกรยิ ำตำมดว้ ย Gerunds บำงกรยิ ำต้องตำมด้วย Infinitives และ
บำงกรยิ ำตำมไดท้ ้งั Gerunds หรอื Infinitives เพียงแตค่ วำมหมำยตำ่ งกนั ออกไป

Gerunds Infinitive

ใชต้ ำมหลงั คำคุณศัพท์ (Adjective)
Ex. I’m proud to work with you.
Ex. It’s not easy to graduate from university.
นอกจำกน้ีถ้ำมีโครงสร้ำง too + adj. หรอื adj.+ enough

ใช้ Infinitives ตำมหลงั ดงั นี้
Ex. I’m too tired to do homework.
Ex. My son is old enough to drive.

Infinitives เท่ำน้นั ท่ใี ช้ตำมหลงั กรรมท่เี ปน็ คำนำมหรอื สรรพนำมท่ีพูดถึง
บุคคล

Ex. We asked him not to go.
We = ประธำน
asked = กรยิ ำ
him = กรรมที่เป็นสรรพนำม
Infinitive = to go

Gerunds Infinitive

Gerunds เท่ำนนั้ ท่ีใช้ตำมหลงั คำบพุ บท
(Prepositions) ยกเวน้ but หรอื except

Ex. You should tell the truth
instead of lying all the time.

Preposition = of
Gerund = lying

ขอ้ ควรระวงั : But ที่เรำร้จู ักกันวำ่ เปน็ คำเชือ่ ม (Conjunction) นัน้ สำมำรถใชเ้ ปน็ Preposition ได้ใน
ควำมหมำยเดียวกบั except ดังน้ันจึงเป็นขอ้ ยกเว้นวำ่ ตำมด้วย Gerunds ไมไ่ ด้ but และ except ต้อง
ตำมดว้ ย Infinitive เช่น

She can do everything except cook. หรอื She can do everything but cook.
