The ASSURE model was developed by Heinrich and Molenda in
1999. It is a wellknown instructional design guide using
constructivist perspective which integrates multimedia and
technology to enhance the learning environment (Patrick
Lefebvre 2006). “Careful planning will increase the effectiveness of
instruction” (Daniel Callison 2002).
"ASSURE is comprised of six phases, each of which have their
own characteristics and goals"
"The ASSURE model is an ISD (Instructional Systems Design)
process that was modified to be used by teachers in the regular
classroom"
"The ASSURE model is an instructional design model that
designers use to develop more effective training programs with
integrated technology"
"The ISD process is one in which teachers and trainers can use to
design and develop the most appropriate learning environment
for their students. You can use this process in writing your lesson
plans and in improving teaching and learning."
DISCLAIMER:
Every Instructional Design Model has its
own advantages and disadvantages.
However, our group decided to choose the
Assure model due to several concrete
factors that felt close to us. Amongst are the
reasons behind our decision:
EASY TO FOLLOW
Simple and not complicated
VERY LEARNER-CENTRIC
It considers and identifies the characteristics of the
learner
APPROPRIATE FOR DISTANCE LEARNING
Promotes planning and delivery of instruction using
technology and media that makes learning can be
done everywhere as long as able to access the
internet
MORE EMPHASIS ON LEARNER
PARTICIPATION
Very important in order to make learning and
instruction effective and beneficial to them

outcomes. The data acquired
will assist the teachers in
making judgments about the
next steps in the process.
Teachers also will be able to use
appropriate tactics and tools to
improve the learning process
after they have determined the
character of their students
A teacher must classifyy about her
student's general attributes such as their
gender, age and academic capabilities
Prior competences is what the other

teacher must analyze the prior
competences that her student have.
Learning style also an important part in
learning process. A teacher must classify
what type of learning styles that his
students have. There are three types of
learning styles which is visual, auditory and
kinesthetic.
This step in the ASSURE, which is ‘S’ tate objective also

instructor must explain the learning

students will be able to do as a

statement will concentrate on what
the learner will understand or be
able to accomplish as a result of the
training.Futhermore, there are a

the learning objectives, it’s
necessary to pick instructional

results that you want.
elect means the action or fact
of carefully choosing someone
or something as being the best
or most suitable.
Strategies
First we need to choose instructional strategies either teacher centred
learning or student centred. Both of the strategies have their own pros
and cons. Basically, teacher centred learning is one way of communication
while student centred learning is two ways of communication. For
example ,lectures and presentations are teacher centred learning while
discussion between the students and teacher is student centred learning.
Media
Next, we need to identify the media that will be used which begins
from simple tools such as chalk and blackboard to more sophisticated
ones such as power-point presentations. We also can insert some
videos and graphics in our powerpoint presentation to attract the
audience. As we know students really like the animation such as GIFs
or memes but we should not put too much in our slide.
Materials
The material such as the computer, projector, speaker and white
screen need to be prepared before the class begins. For example, we
should check whether our computer and microphone are in good
condition or not. If not, we need to fix it. This is because technical
issues will lead to disturbance in class lessons. And disturbance will
hinder the lesson objectives from being met.
This step in the ASSURE, which is tilise means to use
‘U’ (utilise), means a process that something in an
concerns planning how you will effective way
utilise the technology, media, and
materials you have selected. As
with all of the instructional steps,
you must make sure that your
plans contribute to producing the
objectives you have laid down.
5 STEPS OF UTILISE
Preview the Technology,
Media, and Materials
You need to plan ahead of time. Then master all the lesson
materials, the media and technology that you will use in the
class. This will make the class run smoothly without any
problems.
Prepare the Technology,
Media, and Materials
You must gather and prepare all the teaching and learning
materials and also the technology or media that will be used
in class as well as make sure all the technology and media
function properly.
Prepare the Environment
You must prepare the set up for the learning environment
although it is simple things like desks and chairs. You also
need to make sure the learning process can be delivered
smoothly without any noises and disturbances.
5 STEPS OF UTILISE
Prepare the Learners
You need to inform the learners of the lesson objectives. This
will help them to mentally prepare and have the view of the
lesson. You also need to explain the benefits that the
learners will get from the teaching’s lesson.
Provide the Learning
Experience
You carry out the lesson where all the prepared lessons,
media and technology are used to teach the students. This is
where you bear in mind how you want to carry out the
lesson step by step. This will ensure your success in teaching.
Teachers should describe well equire Learner
how to get each learner Participation
actively involved in the lesson.
This part required teachers to
be as creative as possible to
organize such an interactive
activities to all students in
order to ensure that students
truly embrace, grasp, and
comprehend the knowledge
rather than just merely
asbsorb the content from
teachers.
Remember: This part should
not be overlooked because it is
very crucial
TO MEET THE it is so
important ?
OBJECTIVES OF THE LECTURE
For example, if the lesson's
objective is for students to be able
to construct sentences, we'll need
to come up with engaging activities
that will encourage all students to
realize the objectives. Otherwise,
instructors will not be able to attain
their goals.
TO AVOID STUDENTS FROM
BECOMING PASSIVE LEARNERS
The diagram shows 50-90 percent of learning Most of the learning
happens actively during discussion, practice, and happens effectively when
the students are physically
teaching others. and mentally involved in
acquiring knowledge like
having a discussion, debate,
teaching and analyzing the
information
can we apply
this in lecture ?
MAKE A MANAGEABLE
DISCUSSION GROUPS
For example;
Divide students into several
groups, meant to let them
discuss amongst themselves
topics related to the content
The Q&A session can be done Q&A
either in the beginning, middle SESSION
or at the end of the class
(what suits you)
For example:
The teacher would require
students to prepare questions at
home to bring into the next
class, but don’t forget to remind
or ask students to read and
prepare the question related to
upcoming the EARLIER so that
students are ready before the
class starts
This step is the last part for valuate the impact
ASSURE Model 'E' (Evaluate), of your teaching on
means an evaluation of your student learning
teaching strategies and the
technology, media, and
materials that you used to
ensure the effectiveness of
instruction process. By
evaluating the learners against
the objectives that you created
in the beginning of the class, it
can be determined if the
lesson was effective and
whether any step needs to be
modify or re-examined
Anyone can develop a lesson"
and deliver it, but really good teachers
must reflect upon the lesson, the stated
objectives, the instructional strategy, the
instructional materials, and the
assessment and determine if these
elements of the lesson were effective or if
one or more of them need to be changed
"the next time the lesson is done.
Heinich, Molenda, Russell, Smaldino (1999)
Re-teaching is not a bad thing; it’s actually the mark of
a empathy teacher that recognizes when the students
did not in line with their learning outcome and are
committed to ensuring their students’ success.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Student able to explain the role of idioms in a
sentence
• Student able to explain the meaning of idioms
briefly
• Student able to use idioms in constructing 3
sentences
Strategies
For implementation, we can choose both of the strategies which are
teacher centered learning and student centered learning. Lectures about
idiom and answering questions from students are the example of teacher
centered learning. Next, students are doing group activity and discuss the
answers among them are example of student centered learning.
Media
We can select the media such as Zoom, Microsoft PowerPoint, Mural
and Google form app in order to conduct the class. Zoom app can be
used for meeting while Microsoft PowerPoint can be used for
presentation. Next, the Mural app can be used for students group
activity while Google Form can be used for assigning the quiz.
Materials
Last step we should select the most appropriate materials which are the
computer, microphone and Wi-fi connection for the online class. The computer
is important as it is the medium for the students and teacher to access the
online platform. Next the microphone is vital for the students and the teacher to
communicate with each other in the class. Lastly, the Wi-fi connection also
needed in order to access the internet and enjoy online learning.

teacher also can search or find

the students are more focused.
Next, the teacher will explain
the lesson’s objectives before
starting the lesson. Then, the
teacher begins the lecturer on
the idiom slide presentation by
presenting it on the Zoom
presentation feature.
After introductions about the idioms, the
role of the idioms in the essay explained
the meaning of selected idioms, and gave
some examples of idioms in writing,

using the idioms that have
been learned within the time

3. Write down 3 sentences in

according to their respective
group
CONT.
4. Time's up! Each group
will present their own
sentences to all
classmates
5. Teacher will give
immediate feedback on
their presentation to
improve learning
You give students the opportunity to ask you any questions they have
regarding a topic you have previously taught them. If they have a lot of
questions, it indicates that the learning objectives have not been met or you
can put them to the test by asking them, "Can you identify what is the best
idiom to fit this image?" or "Give your students a circumstance and let them
guess the idioms.", If they are able to answer your question, it signifies you
have met your goal for the day.
You use google form to measure you learning process and how effective your
instruction was on that day. It based on three tools (proficient, needs some
improvement and poor). If the proficient reach 75 percent its mean your
objectives for that day achieved, and how about the balance for the rest, poor
and needs some improvement? We need to figure out what the student's
issue is in order to solve this situation.
Evaluation Form Statistics
You can assign your student with online quiz, group discussion, or homework
regarding the topic, idioms. From this, you can measure your students
understanding based on their answer. If most of them are unable to answer
the given question correctly, it means that the teaching method that you
used is not appropriate for them and the teaching method needs to be
modify or re-examined.
The ASSURE process is really just a matter of common sense.
However, following an organised framework can help you enhance your
teaching technique. Any competent educator recognises that
improving their method takes time and that there is always room for
improvement. You will assure that your teaching will improve for many
years to come if you follow the ASSURE procedure.
The ASSURE model supports the field of educational technology.
It is founded on the principle that no one students learn in the same
way. While the ASSURE model is used to arrange training in a
systematic manner, it moves away from traditional instructions
(textbooks, lectures, etc.) and toward the use of technology.
The ASSURE model tighten the bond between a learner and the
knowledge that is presented to them It is because by using this model
in the classroom it will help motivate students with media and
technology to learn and to improve themselves in a better way.
Last but not least, we hope this ebook 'ASSURE Model' can help
prospective educators to develop more effective teaching methods and
be able to adapt teaching methods according to time and
circumstances. Future educators need to be creative in presenting
learning materials to students.
