Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
One lovely day, Sang Kancil was out on a walk.
The mouse deer was enjoying the fresh juggle air
and stretching his legs.

Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
After some time passed, Sang Kancil happened
upon a river that he needs to cross.
3
Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
To his dismay, the river is with infested
hungry crocodiles.
These crocodiles are eager to eat him.

Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
“Oh, you little morsel over there.
Come closer and let us have a bite,”
sneered a crocodile.
The others chuckled menacingly along.

Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
Sang Kancil takes a moment to brush his fear off.
He racks his brain for a way out of this trouble.
Sang Kancil looked around and thought to himself,
“I wouldn’t want to be eaten on such a lovely day.
Now, I know these crocodiles are not the brightest
bunch in this jungle. I might be small but I can trick
these silly bunch of big, wet lizards.”
6
Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
Soon he has an idea,
the deer stands proudly and he tells the crocs,
“You cannot eat me
unless you make a row!”
7
Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
The crocodiles are taken aback by the odd
condition and the simple fact that the deer
replied instead of running off.
The same crocodile questions back,
“And why must we do that?”
8
Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
Sang Kancil bends closer towards the river so he
seems unafraid of the crocodiles in the water.
He answers the crocodiles calmly,
“Our mighty King Sulaiman is planning on having a
party and he has tasked me to count all the animals
in the jungle!”

Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
Believing what he said, the crocodiles exclaimed
amongst themselves,
“A party! With the king no less!”
10
Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
The crocodiles very quickly and happily
formed a row between the two sides of the
river, just as Sang Kancil expected to happen.
Sang Kancil then quickly hops from
one crocodile to another until he
reaches the other side of the river.

Landing safely on the other side of the river,
Sang Kancil smiles.
“Silly crocodiles, they absolutely fell for it,”
he thought to himself.
He turns to the crocodiles and bids them
farewell, “I am sure the king will look
forward to seeing you all at the party.”
13
Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
“So long!” said one crocodile.
“See you at the party, deer” said another.
They chatter among themselves, oblivious
that they have simply helped the little
mousedeer cross the river.

Sang Kancil and the Crocodiles
Sang Kancil happily prances off, glad that
he can continue his lovely walk.
