I think it is useful because they sometimes give you ideas
that you haven’t thought of or tell you about places and
people you can go to more professional help.

No, I don’t think it is useful because the person answering
does not know you as a person and the advice he/ she gives
is too general.

B. Read the letter below, which a girl wrote to an advice
column of a magazine. What advice would you give her?

Suggested answers:

-The girl who is writing the letter.

What is the girl’s problem?
-She hasn’t got enough time to study and do her hobbies as well as she wants.

How was she been feeling about the exams that are coming up?
-Overwhelmed

What does the girl think is unfair?
-That’s she, unlike her cousin is given homework during the exam period.

What does the girl’s mom said?
-That she should give up her hobbies.

What is the girl asking Agnes to tell her?
-She asking Agnes to tell her how she can find time for everything without feeling
she’s not doing her best.

C. Read the advice given to the girl and compare it to the
advice you would give her. Do you think Agnes’ advice is
helpful?

Anxious and exhausted.

To reassure her mother that she can cope with everything.

She can cut down on the time spent on her hobbies without
