Dear agency members, We have now entered the second half of 2023. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to you on behalf of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd. Celebrating 75 Good Years in Malaysia TMLM celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, and I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for all your unwavering support at this significant anniversary milestone. We’ve been through many ups and down, but am proud that all of us have remain committed to our three pillars of looking beyond profit, delivering on our commitments, and empowering our people, hence living up to our “Good Company” values. Moreover, in line with the recent Leader Summit’s tagline “Quality Agent, Quality Business”, let’s continue to focus on recruiting, retaining, and activating new and existing agents. Stay determined, and keep your passion alive, as I look forward to growing the active agent count in the Agency, and want to see many more MDRT qualifiers in the second half of the year, which will elevate our company to new heights. An eventful 2023 to look forward to We kicked of the year 2023 with the launch of iCareGuard and iCareGuard Plus, two new investment-linked unit deducting riders attachable to TokioMarine-iLifeSecure 2. Launched aptly in conjunction with World Health Day, the riders provided up to 79 Advanced Staged Critical Illness coverage, including benefits for ICU admission and hospital admission due to surgery. I am pleased we had the chance to launch these riders that can stand out due to their innovative reward system, which encourages policyholders to maintain a healthy lifestyle by offering incentives for their commitment to their well-being. I hope this will provide our agents an opportunity to tap into a new market. This year, we also proudly became the official Insurance Partner for RHB LEKAS Highway Ride 2023 again. TMLM continues to share our enthusiasm to promote a healthy lifestyle through cycling and are committed to enhancing our mutual pledge by creating another unforgettable experience for the cyclists. Furthermore, TMLM became one of the sponsors for the new school hall of SJK(T) Mak Mandin. Not only does this new school hall benefit the school students, but it is also open to the surrounding locals for community activities. We had the opportunity to participate in the opening ceremony, which was officially jointly opened by Yang Berhormat Puan Lim Hui Ling, Deputy Minister of Education and Yang Berhormat Tuan Lim Guan Eng, Bagan Member of Parliament in the constituency wherein the school is situated on, with the presence of various VIPs, Members of Parliament, Penang State Exco Members, local leaders, teachers, parents and pupils of the school. In addition, with our ongoing commitment to give back to the community and environmental sustainability, in partnership with Make-A-Wish Malaysia, we are pleased to sponsor critically ill children and their families with a memorable family movie day outing in Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh. We also had partnered with EcoKnights in an ongoing Mangrove Conservation Program. Through this collaboration, we had planted more than 100 seedlings, in line with one of our main themes of protecting the natural environment and responding to climate change. 2023 is an anniversary year of many different organisations, which are related to Tokio Marine and the Japanese community in Malaysia. 2023 is the 50th year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, which started in 1973. The Japanese government and community have developed friendships and strong commitments with the ASEAN countries, including Malaysia. Half a century is really a long period and the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia promotes many anniversary events. 2023 is also the 60th anniversary of The Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur (JCKL), which is the organisation that enhances the friendship among the JCKL members, as well as the friendship between Malaysia and Japan. The Japanese community in 1963 was a very small one and I appreciate the continuous friendship and support from the Malaysian community since the very early days. Most importantly, 2023 is the 75th anniversary of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd. (TMLM). Asia Union Life was established in 1948, which was the origin of TMLM. Asia Life had developed the life insurance business in Malaysia since the very early days of the industry, which I believe had made a huge contribution to the society of Malaysia. I am proud that we have continued to develop our business model, since Asia Life joined the Tokio Marine Group in 2007. I would like to send the biggest appreciation to all the Agency Leaders and Agents for their continuous support to the company initiatives. Insurance companies can continue to grow only with the continuous trust and cooperation with the Agency Forces, which is my most favourite asset of TMLM. Tokio Marine Group has the corporate value of “To be a Good Company”. Our corporate values represent a culmination of everything we have learnt and stood for through our long history. These values and vision are timeless and the cornerstone of our global insurance business in the past, present and the future. TMLM has continued the journey for 75 years since inception and it will continue ahead towards the future. During the journey, we have experienced many of ups and downs, and we have conquered all the challenges after the struggles with a strong partnership and friendship among all the Agency Forces and the company. We are facing big challenges in 2023 and our business performance in the first half of 2023 was not satisfactory for almost everyone. But I have confidence that we will bounce back. In order to continue to grow, we need to work hard but it is not enough. I would like to have more and more interactions with all the Agency Forces to share experiences, exchange ideas and encourage each other. TMLM will prepare lots of opportunities of our preferred lifestyle, including incentive tours and other gathering events, which were not available during the pandemic days. The first half of 2023 presented significant challenges, as the agency’s sales production experienced a decline of 19% compared to the same period in 2022. However, there were also positive developments, as both recruitment and Persistency Ratio (PR) Basis 2 showed encouraging growth, with improvements of 16% and 5% respectively. Quality Agent, Quality Business In this second half of 2023, let’s keep our focus on the crucial RM 75 million APE target, which is essential to recover from first-half losses, as well as to drive positive sales growth. Together, I believe we can overcome challenges and achieve this milestone, defining our success and leaving an enduring legacy of excellence. Emphasising the importance of “Quality Agent, Quality Business”, our unwavering focus remains on recruiting exceptional new agents and delivering outstanding business performance. As we march towards success, let’s keep in mind the paramount significance of MDRT qualifiers in elevating our agency. The Agency Kick Off, the first overseas kick off trip after the pandemic, was held in Bangkok, Thailand, gathering around 300 agents from abroad. It kicked off with an inspiring keynote by CEO Mr. Toi See Jong, setting the tone for resolutions and goals aligned with the organization’s direction. However, after achieving that milestone three times, my aim shifted to become become a Lifetime MDRT member. With this target in mind, I stayed focused and determined. Qualifying for MDRT every year is already a challenging accomplishment. However, achieving MDRT for 10 years is an even greater feat. Despite the difficulties, I am driven to strive for this MDRT life member milestone. Family Movie Outing Day in collaboration with Make-A-Wish Malaysia (MAWM) As TMLM wants to shine the spotlight on doing Good this year as we celebrate our 75th Anniversary, we organised two Family Movie Outing Days in collaboration with MAWM. The first outing was held at TGV Sunway Pyramid, Selangor on 1st July 2023, while the second outing was held at TGV Kinta, Ipoh on 8th July 2023. MAWM had invited children whose wishes they had granted before, who are currently still recovering or are still ill, to enjoy this special day with their families. We’re pleased that over 300 children and parents had joined our outings. Healthcare services are constantly changing and evolving to meet patients’ needs.
