AGENT’S Vinoth Kumar A/L Kumaran

Champion
2020 Grand Agency Builder

2020 Agency Builders’ Club

Edited by Chua San Kuang & Lim Chui Ling

It all started when my Agency Manager, Mr. A. Visvanathan who had
persuaded me to join the life insurance industry and gave me the golden
key to change my career pathway. Little would I have thought that the career
switch would bring upon so much of changes in life, both my profession and
lifestyle.

I started as Unit Manager in Tokio Marine Life in October, 2016 with 2 agents
under my care and worked hard to produce RM87,043 AFYP within a little
more than two months before 2016 ended. Within this short period, too, I
had come to realize not only the important functions of life insurance but
the opportunities for life practitioners to build business enterprises of their
own. I started agency building in 2017 and seize the opportunity when Tokio
Marine Life launched an agents’ financing scheme, T-Marine Corp (TMC)
aimed at developing leaders. I enrolled qualified agents into the scheme
and monitor closely to ensure they succeed in completing the scheme. It’s
most satisfying today to mention that all my five Unit Managers were TMC
participants. I was promoted to Agency Manager in 2020 and produced
RM3.65mil. Group AFYP with a total manpower of 145 by end of year and
became 4th Runner-up in the Top Agency Managers category in addition to
being a Champion of Grand Agency Builders Club.

My confidence has been growing with each passing year when my team
performances improved. These improvements come on a number of factors.
I was passionate about life insurance, it is a noble profession which helps
others and also helps ourselves. I was focused on achieving targets and
always set out with the ‘never-give-up’ attitude. As I was new to the industry,
I relied on available resources and worked closely with agency leaders and
company staff to tap on their valuable experiences and knowledge.

During my years in Tokio Marine Life, two major challenges came across
my pursuit for excellence. I was down with some health conditions but
recovered soon enough to overcome the challenge. The second being the
prolonged Covid-19 pandemic situation which my team members and I are
managing and we are confident that this will not deter us from achieving
good performances.

I had wanted to improve my family lifestyle by owning some properties in
the first few years of joining the life insurance industry. Until now, I have
already in my possession, a semi-detached residence, a Mercedes C300
AMG and a Mustang GT sports car. For a man who once had to drive taxi
overtime daily, I truly understand the difference between making ends meet
and being financially independent!

It is from these experiences that I created my agency motto “Born To Win”
and shall continue to lead my agency members onto striving for improved
performances and achieving our targets. I commit to continuing with this
remarkable journey and will act, built and reflect for betterment!

“A journey of thousand miles
begins with a single step forward!”

TRAINING

LEADERSHIP
PROGRAM

DOUBLE 2xT (Double Your Income in Half the Time) Leadership Program is one of the
YOUR significant initiatives made by TMTDA to enhance our leaders’ competencies in guiding
INCOME a productive team by adopting the right strategies.
IN HALF
THE TIME This is a six month training program that covers 8 practical agency management
modules. All 51 leaders who have participated in the program were expected to pick up
26 self-development skills through this comprehensive program which would be beneficial
for their agency expansion.

The training and bi-weekly coaching sessions were conducted by Chris Chan who is the
founder of PPP Academy from Singapore. Chris Chan is unarguably the most suitable
speaker with numerous accreditations from companies and the industry respectively.
Certainly, with his passion in providing consultancy to financial institutions, he was able
to bring out another side of our leaders that they didn’t know they had.

The first module, “Transformational Leadership and Team Culture” was conducted in
January 2021. The session highlighted the importance of being encouraging leaders
who are able to connect to their audience with strong communication skills, and why it
is important that every leader should also possess excellent listening skills by placing
empathy and transparency in order to understand what is needed from their team
members.

In the third module of the 2xT Leadership Program, leaders were taught about team
branding and marketing, a noteworthy skill to stay competitive and relevant in the
digital era. Not only did they learn to explore and fully utilize the power of digital
marketing, but they also learnt how to develop their networking skills such as building
a long-term relationship with clients. Therefore, branding and marketing will indirectly
help the business development of agencies to become successful and sustainable.

We have been living in a pandemic for more than a year now, and we have learnt to
navigate around the hurdles we initially faced. Some may face less or more challenges
than others and it may be partially biased to compare being in different boats despite
being in the same storm. However, what makes us different is how we choose to take
the accountability and responsibility to change our future. A winner MAKES things
happen instead of waiting for things to happen. As we practice being BIGGER.BETTER.
BOLDER, we should always be the former. As the saying by Marva Collins, “Success
doesn’t come to you, you go to it.” It is because success doesn’t come overnight and it
is more meaningful and worth it when we manage to.

TRAINING

SELF-SUSTAINING The leaders were also introduced to three stages of Self-Sustaining System
SYSTEM (S.S.S) in developing their agents, especially new recruits. The Self-Sustaining
(S.S.S) System involves Lead Generation Mastery, Attraction Mastery and Sales
Advisory Mastery respectively. The first step of S.S.S focuses on conducting
effective prospecting activities, intensified strategies and techniques in getting
referral to increase closing ratio. The Attraction Mastery emphasizes on
approaching prospective clients professionally hence increases the chances
in getting appointments. It is crucial for the agents to practice and be trained
well in this stage to boost their self-esteem when meeting or talking to people.
At the last phase of the system, leaders need to recognise that their agents
are valuable assets to the agency and able to fulfil customers’ satisfactions by
maintaining a top-notch service.

Being a leader is never an easy job because a good leader not only makes their
own dreams work, they also need to help their people to realize their goals.
It is the main job for leaders to inspire their people through unique beliefs,
values, strengths, principles and personality. This will eventually contribute to
the agency’s lasting sustainable success.

Another key program by TMTDA this year is the Performance Coaching Program PERFORMANCE
(PCP) which encompass agency and unit managers. Participants were guided COACHING
on their agency system building and tools. PCP is designated to ensure leaders PROGRAM
stay focus with their goals as well as help them to become goal getters. Other (PCP)
than that, the program is designed to assist in boosting motivation levels so
agency productivity can be improved.

The PCP program comprises of four sessions which are Human Capital
Management, Develop Quality Recruitment System, Develop 100 Days Training
System and Performance Management System. Leaders will be introduced to
Million Dollar Business Practice in Session 1 which is undoubtedly important to
leaders in convincing their people that they can earn a good income in the life
insurance business. The other topics covered are Recruitment Avatar, MDRT
Whole Person, 80/20 System and Coaching Techniques.

ACTIVATING SALES The Activating Sales Program (ASP) is another program designed for all agents
PROGRAM particularly those with six and below cases. This program intends to help these
(ASP) agents with their productivity with 4 FUFTs evening sessions lasting 1 hour
and 15 minutes per session. The training contents for ASP consists of Sales
Cycle, Prospecting, Approach and Fact Finding, Sales Concepts, Handling and
Closing. Producers are also invited to the sessions to do some sharing on their
closing experiences. Participants are capable to acquire extensive knowledge
and techniques through this program that can be applied practically when they
do their sales.
