GTOA 2017 Program Final

GTOA Program

13TH ANNUAL
GTOA
CONFERENCE

March 5 -8, 2017

THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF LAURA FOGARTY

PRESIDENT'S

MESSAGE

Welcome to the 13th Annual GTOA Training Conference.  You will find that the training is
outstanding and everyone around you will make you feel welcomed.  One of the best parts of GTOA
is the networking.  You have an opportunity to learn more by simply meeting officers from other
agencies.  More can happen in the hallways and at the lunch table than on the range.  Make sure to
take advantage of these opportunities.
This year the Georgia Tactical Officers Association has undergone a significant change in leadership.
As many of you will recall, Dennis Valone resigned last year as president.  He served the association
for nine years!  As a new board of directors has assumed the leadership, we ask that you
communicate with us so that as we continue to grow we meet your needs.  This only occurs when
we hear from you.  As a board, we will be seeking you out for guidance..
As we go through this week, please take a few minutes to think about those warriors that were lost
since the last time we were together.  We continue to see an increase of felonious assaults on law
enforcement officers and an increase in officers being ambushed.  Please stay vigilant and maintain
threat awareness.  Take the knowledge you will gain this week coupled with all of your

previous knowledge and pass it along.  It is the
responsibility of all officers to pass on what they know.
We also ask you to assist us growing our organization.
For far too long the term “tactical” has belonged to a
small group in our vast profession.  As criminal activity
continues to evolve, more and more responsibilities are
being placed on street police officers and deputies.  Those
same officers can equally benefit from the training that
our organization has offered for the last 13 years.
I would also like to take a moment to thank the Bibb
County Sheriffs’ Office for their assistance in helping make
this conference all it can be.  If you have a minute stop
and say thank you to any of them you come across.  Their
support is fantastic and a critical element in making this
event all it can be.
Have a great week.  If I can do something to make your
conference more enjoyable please let me know!
