When golf first came on the scene, using the gym was
more of an afterthought than a necessity for our sport. As
we progressed into the early 2000’s and forward the gym
became as important to professional golfers than hitting
balls for hours. Building proper muscles at the gym is giving
players today longer and more accurate shots as well as a
more sustainable body for golf. Golf has reached new heights
within the gym and is becoming more and more a sport than
recreation.

As we prepare for the offseason we should also prepare
our game for the next season as well. This includes golf
specific workouts. With these types of workouts, you can
hone in on specific areas of your body that will benefit your
golf game and your overall health.

When we workout muscles for our sport we have to be
cognizant of 2 key components; Speed and Flexibility. What
we do not want to happen is our muscles become big and
tight. This will greatly reduce our flexibility and actually
reduce club head speed due to tightness. Therefore,
workouts should be used with lower weights, and higher
reps. The key muscle groups we want to focus on are the
following; shoulders, biceps, triceps, forearms, abdomen,
lower back, thighs, hamstrings and calves. This DOES NOT
mean we don’t train other areas as well. We must be
balanced, however, these are muscles we will use
consistently in our golf swing. Many of my competitive
students are on weekly workout routines. This helps them
achieve better golf swings and a healthier lifestyle.

Get with your trainer and decide what is right for you.
They will also help you focus on the proper technique,
weights and reps as well as push you to make yourself better.
If you have questions regarding exercises and a starting
point do not hesitate to contact me.

Dear Members,

Like we reminded everyone last month, please don't put away your clubs for the year! October and

usually well into November are the two most comfortable months of the year to play golf in our area. Our

golf course will continue to be in excellent condition and starting times are readily available. Please

come out and check our fall outerwear and fantastic savings on new 2016 golf clubs. The markdowns are

aggressive and the highest technology equipment available can surely help you enjoy your game more.

The premier golf event of the year at Bogey Hills was played last month. We hosted our 2016 Club

Championships, a 36 hole stroke play tournament. The winners and runners-up who will receive their

trophies at the November 4th Awards Banquet are as follows:

Ladies Club Champion - Julie Baker - 169 Runner-Up - Gail Walters - 176

"A" Flight Champion Judy Schnarr - 174 Runner-Up - Julie Bossard - 182

"B" Flight Champion Jan Whipple - 192 Runner-Up - Patty Rothermich - 195

"D" Flight Champion - Kerry Scheibler - 184 Runner-Up - John Schwartze - 185

Congratulations to Sharon Gietl for making only the 2nd member Hole-in-One at Bogey Hills this year.
That is an incredible statistic after a busy nine months of golf. Sharon knocked her 6-iron into the hole
on #2 on August 28th.

Our season-ending club event, fittingly named the Closing Day Classic, will be played on Sunday
afternoon, October 16th with a 12:30 shotgun. Pick your 5-person team or sign up and we will place you.
The $55 entry fee includes a buffet lunch, cart, gift certificate winnings to the top teams and appetizers in
the lounge after the tournament. Teams will choose an individual who will play their own ball, two
players who will play a scramble and two players will play one net best ball of a shamble. Please sign up
for this exciting event!

Lastly, we'd like to update you on the 2016 Player-of-the-Year race for the Nagel Cup. Julie Bossard has
a 14 point lead over Gail Walters and is 38 points ahead of Diane Fuchs. On the Men's side, Scott Hays has
a 7.5 point lead over Kyle Bozoian and is 10 points ahead of Jonathan Prange. This should be another
fantastic finish!

Congratulations to the Bogey Hills Ladies District
Team, which again went to the post-season for
winning low net in its Division! This marks the third
year in a row the Ladies of BHCC have gone to the
playoffs.

Bogey played The Legends team in the first round
September 21 at Westwood Country Club, but
unfortunately fell short by losing two out of the three
matches. Still a fine ending to an interesting year
for Team Bogey in the St. Louis Women's District
Golf Association. Captain Gail Walters reports she
is SO PROUD and thankful for all the ladies who
participated this year.

On the course

Dear Members,
Autumn is here! September finally gave us some cooler nights but most of the month was still all about

summer. Now that we all hope we are past 90 degree temperatures for highs, it feels great to wear a pair of
pants and break out a jacket! Rainfall events were limited but when it rained, it poured! One event was of
course right before Club Championship. Luckily the rain stopped in time for us to whip the course into
shape Saturday morning. Greens have recovered nicely from the brutal summer. They were rolling fast and
smooth on a regular basis before aerification. Greens will recover in a couple weeks and will be back to fast
and smooth to finish out the season.

The sod project on #5 fairway turned out great! The sod
seams are closing up nicely and the turf is already really
healthy. Over-seeding of the roughs was very successful too!
New seedlings are growing all around the golf course! This
process will continue to improve our roughs so there are less
bare lies and more consistent playing surfaces. As advertised

in the pro shop, mixed grill and email blasts, this
process comes at a price. Including fertilizer to help
aid in the seedlings growth, the
over-seeding process costs the club around $6,000.
This investment can be protected with every ones
help. Please keep cart traffic to fairways and cart
paths only. Enter the fairway at 90 degrees to your
ball and stay in the fairway. Finally, exit the fairway
at the blue stake. Also, some walk on areas to
greens have been worn thin. These areas have some
white rope and stakes installed to divert foot traffic.
Please walk around white rope, don't step over rope. With every ones buy-in to these simple requests, all
members will reap the benefits of a better golf course next season.
In the upcoming weeks, zoysia fairways and tees will
start going into dormancy.
Once this occurs fairways
and tees will be left with a
winter shag for over
wintering. At this time cart
traffic will be restricted to roughs only. This will protect the zoysia fairways
so they are healthy in spring. We anticipate this going into effect during the
Fall season dependent on weather. Stay tuned for an exact date.
On tap for this fall is more irrigation work to continue to make our system
as efficient as possible. There are still many malfunctioning irrigation heads
and issues that take place behind the scenes of what members see. Leaf
cleanup will be in full speed within the next few weeks. We will be doing our
best to keep the golf course free of debris, but the battle is constant. A few
bunkers will get some drainage work evaluated and fixed. The cart path drain
at #11 tee complex will be fixed by the end of fall too.
Looking forward to seeing members out during the cooler temperatures
that are sure to be coming. Don't forget to sign up in the Golf Shop for the
Closing Day Classic.

Bogey Book Club

This club will meet once a month. The meeting
will be held on October 19th this month at
6:00pm.

Last month we had an intriguing discussion on
The Life we Bury by author Allen Eskens. This
thriller had our imaginations in all different

directions. Everyone enjoyed the book so
much we decided to read his second book for
the October book club. Come join us for this
next book! I can't wait to see if it is as exciting

as the first.

Book discussion should take

make sure to have enough
individuals for a good
