Celebrating 40 years WILLIAM YEOWARD EST.1983 “If you have one foot in yesterday and one in tomorrow, somewhere in the middle you will find the spirit of today” With William’s battle with cancer in 2016 he appointed our CEO, Chris Grafham, to run the team and to continue to build his legacy and his vision into the future. In 2019 William sadly lost his battle with cancer. His spirit lives on and the brand continues to reflect his flair, originality and style. The William Yeoward ‘Paint Gallery’ was launched – this was always one of William’s dreams so we are thrilled that it now forms part of who we are. ‘Concept Furniture’ is launched and our very first shape is the ‘Shoreville’. Today this has become one of our biggest and most successful collections. In 1983 he bought his first unit in Ingate place to pursue his own business and the William Yeoward brand was born! Shortly afterwards in 1985 he took the lease on a tiny premises on the Kings Road which he fondly nicknamed ‘chipped and cracked’’ and began selling antiques he had sourced himself and furniture he had restored or bought at auctions. William’s keen eye for originality and quality meant this little shop became a magnet and business started to prosper. William later created a range of china called ‘Braithwaite & Scott’. This caught the eye of Tim Jenkins of John Jenkins & Sons, a leading supplier of glass and crystal in the hospitality world. They collaborated and William Yeoward Crystal was born, with Jenkin’s expertise and Yeoward’s eye they dusted the cobwebs off the fine crystal business in the 1990s and this became a successful global brand and later granted a royal warrant. During this time William was joined by Sam Kingcome of Kingcome furniture, and the team became two! Sam’s keen eye in the world of upholstery and furniture expanded the furniture part of the business and she is still a well loved member of the team to this day. William went on to launch his first book ‘Perfect Tables’ followed by ‘William Yeoward The Perfect Host’ both in 2008; ‘William Yeoward at Home’ in September 2010 and ‘William Yeoward American Bar’ in 2012. He completed his sixth book ‘Blue & White & Other Stories’ in Autumn 2017. Our very first rug, ‘Rhoscolyn’, was launched. Another instant classic and immediate success that remains the central pillar of our Rug collection today. In 1997 our iconic Alfie Lamp was born, still available in 12 jewel-like colours , still in the range today and more popular than ever! The very first William Yeoward fabric and wallpaper collections, Notebook followed by Sketchbook, were launched globally under license with Designers Guild. Let us take you on a brief history of the William Yeoward brand so far...

The Yeoward Line This year we mark four years since we lost our beloved founder William Yeoward to cancer. This year also marks the sixth anniversary of the launch of the Screw Cancer charity to realise William’s vision of an easyto-use app designed to help those with cancer navigate an adjusted life. Sadly we no longer have William with us but what a legacy he has left behind. The Cancer App now supports 24 major cancers making it relevant and helpful to so many people living with cancer in line with William’s ambition. The app has lots of useful features including medication reminders and the ability to store documents, appointments and contacts alongside a huge range of information about the individual cancers, helping patients to navigate their treatment journey as well as deal with the life-affecting aspects of their disease in areas such as mental health and fertility. The app is now officially approved by the NHS for the quality of its clinical information - a huge step forward in our work to partner with other cancer charities and healthcare providers to reach as many patients as possible. We know William would be delighted at how well his brilliant idea has been received but most of all how it is helping people living with cancer. Yeoward Line originated in 1898 as Yeoward Brothers. In 1920 they formed Yeoward Line Ltd. for their ship owning activities which continued until around the mid 1950s. The original name of the company seems to have been Yeoward Bros and Bonny, which explains the Y and B letters on the flag. The company still exists today as Yeoward (Shipping) Ltd, a member of the Yeoward group in Liverpool, and is registered as ship and forwarding agents. The earliest photoshoot celebrating Yeoward's seafaring heritage. Shot in Salcombe at William’s Brother’s boatyard. Blue & white has always been a classic combination at William Yeoward, but a dash of red is the ‘full stop’. From our first iconic photoshoot Polperro in 2011, to our most recent Pensthorpe collection for SS23, red and blue remains a timeless and much loved combination at William Yeoward.
