The Archdiocese Education Commission (AEC) has been appointed by the Archbishop to act for him in affirming the place of our Catholic schools within our mission, to strive for excellence in our schools, to accept and to be open to positive change and development in the work of education. Therefore, each year the AEC would organize the Teachers’ Day event with teachers, heads of schools and board members with the aim to inspire our Catholic teachers' Christian vocation and spirit. This year, it is our pleasure, the catholic teachers of Papar zone to be the host of this special event. 2024 celebration brings the theme of “Teacher: a missionary of Christ” which was also the theme for last year when it was celebrated in Tuaran. A missionary must be a Christian who is adequately instructed in the Word of God and is a capable instructor of others. As a teacher, we have to be like a missionary who works to spread and share the words of God through our job as a teacher. Besides teaching our subjects based on the curriculum and syllabus, we manifest love of God and his teaching by providing guidance the students need to reach their potential and thereon serve the Lord in the community. It is not an easy job to keep to our duty patiently despite the demand and pressure of today’s world. However, having good qualities of Catholic teachers and guided by the Lord’s word, we persevere and stand tall to all challenges with a mission to be the salt of the earth. I am truly grateful and thankful for having a committed and dedicated committee when organizing this year’s teachers’ day. Guided by the parish priest and advised by the AEC, we managed to work as a team and planned the event since April 2024. Despite distance and time constraint, we managed to communicate with other zones in KK Diocese to participate in this event. Thank you for all the cooperation and warm response to this event. We hope that this event will continue to be held every year as a tool and medium to meet and encourage one another to serve as teacher-missionary in the Lord’s vineyard. Teacher’s Day Speeh 2024 Shalom. Good morning sisters and brothers in Christ. I am very proud of the Organising Committee’s capability to get the Teacher’s Day celebration going here in St Mary’s Secondary school Papar today. As a former student here in Limbahau I am particularly delighted to congratulate all the teachers present here today for able to make it to this event for the future of the Catholic Mission school. I was here in 1968 as a Form One student when I was twelve years of age. I said that I studied the Gospel of St Luke and The Acts of the Apostles here taught by Rev Fr Goodhart at Teacher’s Day last year at St John Secondary school Tuaran. This scripture provides me with the most effective tool to purify the perversity of humanity that is inherent to each and every student. We were taught how Jesus prayed. I imitated and prayed for wisdom and strength to do His will. My pilgrimage commences here in St Mary’s Limbahau fifty six years ago. I am very pleased to share with you that I respect my teachers as much as my parents. It is here that I was trained to give speech in English without looking at a script as early as a in Form Three student. With the benefit of continuing Form Four at St Joseph’s Secondary school Papar I learned from the School Supervisor Rev Fr McDonald that “Per As Pera Ad Astra” means working towards excellence by way of diligence. I have great respect for Rev Fe McDonald as I was told that he was a Cambridge University graduate with Master degree in Arts. I learned from him that the mission of the Church is to help the local youth. When I graduated from St Jospeh’s Secondary School I was absolutely amazed that I achieved Top of the Class in the Senior Cambridge School Certificate Examination. I can only say that all credits go to the School Supervisor Rev Fr McDonald, Principal Albert Tien, Science teachers Mr. Simon, Mr. John, Mathematics and Additional Mathematics teacher Mr. Utup amongst others. With the Godly character carved out of the pastoral care by the Principal and teachers, all of the students of our catholic mission schools engage in their pilgrimage in life with a flawless start after graduation. The spiritual pilgrimage that follows my catholic based education is surely a blessing of God’s amazing grace. I was baptized in Sacred Heart Church Kota Kinabalu in the year 2000 together with my wife and four children. Twenty four years on this amazing pilgrimage I feel so blessed to address all respectable teachers here in St Mary’s Lmbahau Papar. In conclusion, it is my daily morning prayer that our good Lord blesses our Archdiocese Education Commission that all children ushered by Lord Jesus into our catholic mission schools be given pastoral care with religious education. May all our teachers gently plant the mustard seeds into each of our students’ hearts to be grown into huge trees for the Greater Glory of God. PESAN SEMPENA HARI GURU KEUSKUPAN AGUNG 2024 Tahniah dan syabas kepada Komisi Pendidikan Keuskupan Agung dengan kerjasama Team Penganjur dari Guru-Guru Katolik di sekitar Papar atas kejayaan dalam penganjuran Hari Guru Keuskupan Agung di Limbahau tahun ini. Saya mendapat tahu bahawa tema perayaan Hari Guru yang kamu pilih pada tahun ini adalah sama seperti tema tahun lalu, iaitu "Guru: Missionari Kristus", "Teacher: A Missionary of Christ'! Semasa pertemuan dengan para pendidik dari kongregasi fesuit pada bulan Mei baru-baru ini, Pope Francis berkata, "Meniadi seorang guru adalah menghidupi sebuah misi. Seorang guru bukan mengaiar apa yang dia tahu, tetapi menyampaikan kepada orang lain apa yang ada di dalam dirinya. Pendidik tidak cukup hanya dengan memberikan informasi atau idea kepada orang lain," kata Pope Francis, "tetapi mendidik adalah menyampaikan hidup." Dalam kata lain, tema pertemuan kamu sebagai "missionari Kristus" perlu bermula dari diri anda yang bersedia "mendidik melalui teladan”. Semoga pertemuan kali ini akan lebih meyakinkan kamu lagi tentang misi kamu sebagai guru-guru Katolik. 03
