DEADLINE ANXIETY

IS REAL

IT’S COMMON TO FIND YOURSELF
CRIPPLING UNDER THE STRESS OF
TIGHT DUE DATES AND UNBEARABLE
AMOUNTS OF WORK; ALL TO BE
SUBMITTED WITHIN THE SAME
WEEK. IT’S TIRING, VERY TIRING.
MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, YOU CAN
FIND YOURSELF VERY BURNT OUT,

AND OVERWHELMED.

MOST OF THE TIME, IT’S BECAUSE
YOU HAVE PROCRASTINATED, TO BE
LEFT WITH A PILE OF WORK THAT
HAS YET TO BE COMPLETED AND

SUDDENLY, YOU FEEL THE
PRESSURE. FIRST THING THAT
SHOULD BE DONE WHEN YOU’RE
EXPERIENCING OVERWHELMING
STRESS IS ALWAYS TALKING

ABOUT IT TO SOMEONE.

DEADLINE ANXIETY

IS REAL

IF THAT’S NOT COMFORTABLE FOR YOU,
TRY TO WRITE IT DOWN IN A BOOK, OR

EVEN JUST TALK TO YOURSELF IN THE
MIRROR. IT ALL SOUNDS SILLY, AND
MAKES YOU LOOK RATHER INSANE, BUT
WHEN IT ALL COMES DOWN TO MENTAL
HEALTH, IT’S IMPORTANT THAT WHAT YOU
ARE FEELING IS UN-BOTTLED AND OUT OF
YOUR HAIR. NEXT, YOU WILL NEED TO

TACKLE THE PROBLEM HEAD ON.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS THAT MIGHT HELP
YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU
COME TO THESE CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN

YOU FEEL HELPLESS. JUST REMEMBER
THAT THIS IS ALL PART OF THE PROCESS
AND IT’S OKAY TO FEEL LIKE GIVING UP
SOMETIMES. IT’S OKAY TO JUST TAKE A
STEP BACK AND CHILL. NOT ALL OF THESE

TIPS WILL WORK FOR YOU, BUT YOU
MIGHT FIND A FEW HIDDEN GEMS. DON’T

LOSE HOPE JUST YET!

SIGNS OF MENTAL DISTRESS

Hello Everyone,

Have you been feeling overly anxious

lately, perhaps you've been eating less or

have been feeling really down. We often

forget that mental health challenges are

sometimes invisible, no matter how happy

someone might appear or how confident

they might seem on the surface.

loss for the signs and what to look for

in those who may be experiencing

these symptoms of mental illnesses.

You might be wanting to help a friend,

or are worried about them but don’t

know what to do. So if you want to be

more informed and aware about the

warning signs of sprouting mental

illnesses, here are 8 warning signs to

look out for.

They’ve started to
withdraw from others or
are avoiding socialization.

Taking time away from others,
may be positive for your mental
health and physical health. But if
you are constantly making excuses
to avoid socializing? Mental health
expert: Raymond Starr Junior and
Howard Dubowitzz say avoiding
people or events we used to enjoy
can be a sign of mental illness such
as depression, anxiety or psychotic

disorder.

Increasing Inability to
cope with daily
situations.

Have you ever gone through a time
in your life when nothing seemed

to go right and just couldn’t deal?
The Australian Department of

Health stated a rough patch that
you just can’t get past,

one that hurts your ability to
function for more than two weeks,

to two months, may be a sign of
anxiety or depression. A major
sign that what you are
experiencing is more than just a
rough patch, is when you have a
hard time functioning in normal
situations for several weeks
according to mental
health America.

Difficulty controlling
your emotions

Do you find that your mood seems
to switch super quickly or
randomly?

“ClemHealthhcareservices” and
others studied how often the
average person's mood shifts on
any given day. According to the
national center of Biotechnology

Information and CVI.

This study showed people tend to
experience positive emotions such

as joy or love more often than
negative ones. But it’s totally
normal for someone’s emotion to

change daily. However, the
National Institute of Mental
Illness or (Nami) warns that
especially dramatic mood swings
that cause huge changes in your
behavior and energy, can be a sign

of bipolar disorder.

Feeling detached

Are you in tune with your
emotions? Do you feel like an
outside observer of your own
life? People who feel detached
may feel disconnected from their
memories and may not remember
them clearly. This process is also
known as dissociation and you
may feel out of body experiences.
Passing feelings of disassociation
are common and isn't a cause for
concern. But ongoing or severe

feelings of detachment and
distortion of your feelings
surroundings can be a sign of
depersonalization-derealization
disorder or another physical or

mental health disorder.

Fatigue or a loss of
energy

Do you always feel tired?
Depression and Chronic

fatigue syndrome are two
illnesses that can leave you
feeling drained and exhausted
even after a full night’s rest.

It’s easy to confuse
exhaustion with depression
and vice-versa and also quite
possible to experience both
conditions at the same time.
While it’s common to feel
tired after doing an activity.
It may become a cause for
concern if you find yourself
constantly experiencing a loss

of energy.

Insomnia or
Hypersomnia

Insomnia or Hypersomnia
How much sleep do you get?
Sleep and mental health are

closely related. Such that
Sleep efficiency can end up

harming your mental and
emotional well-being. People
with mental health problems

are more likely to have
insomnia or other sleep
disorders. Excessive sleeping,
sleeping too little, beyond
usual fatigue could be some
signs that indicate mental

health Illnesses.

You become self
critical

You become self critical
While perfectionism can get

the best of anyone, those
struggling with hidden

depression may take things to
the next level and feel the
need to do everything

perfectly. This can lead to an
excess of self-imposed

pressure and standards that
if missed or not met, lead to
self deprecating thoughts and

feelings of shame. These
feelings might end up

governing your internal
choices and leave you unable
to do simple activities and can

even cause panic attacks.

Recurring thoughts of
Suicide and Self-harm

Recurring thoughts of Suicide and
Self-harm

Having suicidal thoughts is a
hallmark symptom of depression
and depressive episodes in bipolar
disease and several mental health
disorders. Suicidal ideation may be
passive where you’re frequently

thinking about death but not
acting on these thoughts,

or aggressive, when you’re acting
on these thoughts or making plans
to act on your suicidal thoughts.

If you’re experiencing recurring
thoughts of death and suicide,
know that you’re not alone. It’s
important to seek immediate help
and professional guidance and

support

Q&A

What's one piece of
advice you'd give to

your younger self

Saranya

Q: What is one piece of
advice that you would
want your younger self
to hear?

Anonymous

A: I grew up in a strict family with
expectations to be met. As i
grew older, I realized that I didn't
actually follow my dream.
Instead, I let my mother instill her
dream of what she expects of
me onto myself.

I wished that I had more time. More
time to be young before getting
myself into family life. In fact, I really
wanted to do my PHD but
unfortunately, things did not work
out the way i wished.

Q: Wow, I think we could
definitely learn a lot from
that. So what's the one
thing you wished you heard
when you were younger?

A: To follow your dreams, and not let
others' opinions change where you
want to go and what you want to do
in life. Don't let people decide what
you should do with your life. You
should know what your own dream
is, so go after that!

Jasiel

Q: What’s one piece of
advice you would give
to your younger self?

Anonymous

A: I’ve spent a lot of time on
unproductive matters. I guess you
can consider them fruitless. There
are many, many more years to
come. Along with it, many challenges
to face.

Q: How did you manage
those challenges over
the years? Was it hard?

A: Undoubtedly difficult. I learnt that
it’s okay to be set apart. To be
different. To not follow in other
people’s exact footsteps.
Ultimately, never forget to keep
your body and soul health- both
inside and out.

Reminder

STOP STIGMATIZING
MENTAL HEALTH

OKAY

THE STIGMA AROUND

MENTAL HEALTH

“I am dangerous.”
“It could be worse.”
“Just deal with it man.”
“We all go through it.”
“Just think happier thoughts.”
“I’m not ill enough to deserve help yet.”

Do they sound familiar? Have you ever said these words to

yourself? Well, you’re not alone.

Stigma. That’s what it is. Stigma is when someone sees you in

a negative way because of a particular characteristic. When

someone defines you by an illness rather than who you are

as an individual, that is stigma. So many people who are

struggling mentally, hide away from the world due to feelings

of shame, hopelessness and isolation.

There are harmful effects of stigma, and they are often seen

as normal occurrences in our daily lives. And they simply

shouldn’t be. Feelings of shame, reluctance to seek help and

treatment, lack of understanding by family and friends, fewer

opportunities for employment and social interaction, bullying

and harassment and self-doubt are all harmful effects that

stem from stigma around mental health.

People who are struggling with their mental health shouldn’t

have to feel or go through any of these things. Social stigma

and discrimination that these people face can make it harder

to recover or seek help. The fear of getting stigmatized will

be ever present. We— you, and me, have a role in creating a

mentally healthy community— one that is inclusive,

respectful and supporting recovery.

Remember, show compassion for those who are struggling,

and educate yourself. Go on forth from this day, and fight

against stigma around mental health. It is not anything

shameful that needs to be hidden.

Neo-soul/Psychedelic RnB

Greentea Peng

Aria Wells, or better known as Greentea Peng is a singer and song-writer from
Southeast London. She blends neo-soul, reggae and elements of jazz

together, in result of harmonious music designed to soothe the soul. As deep in
spirituality , She isn't far too up in the sky. She often expose the deep, dark and

untalked truths of our society, community and modern days in her work.

Revolution
Feeling a lot of rage, anger and pain towards
world events at the time, the song became a
purge for Aria to express herself. "Feels like a
revolution, but whose revolution? It accurately
describes what’s going on. There’s so much
change right now, but it could go either way -
people are rising up ; or we might be falling
back into traps which others are laying out for
us." said Aria in an interview.

Nah it ain't the same
The artist, Aria said the track is an expression

and exploration of her utter confusion and
inner conflicts amidst shifting paradigms.
"With all these doubts in my mind,
cannot cast aside, left to struggle in my

rhymes" shows how she was bothered with her
thoughts, leading her to a non-stop loop of

thinking throughout her day, as portrayed in
the music video

Ghost town
Aria has said that this song was inspired by the
utter dire straits of the cities, and the
conditions in which our people are being forced
to live in. This song is an expression of a feeling
of discontent towards the powers that be, a
microcosm for what is happening all over the
world. The priority of money and wealth over
the people, and the repercussions of that.
