Agbonkhese S. (2020)

Writing a story based on an image.
First, choose an image you want to display. Then, set a timer.
Have everyone write a story inspired by the picture for fifteen
minutes. When the timer ends, stop writing. Give students an
opportunity to share their stories if they like.

THE WHAT IF BOX

To begin this exercise, have the students come up with a
single What If question which they can then write down on a
piece of paper.

For example, ‘What if everyone in the world knew what you
were thinking?’ or ‘What if your pet dog could talk?’

Students fold up their questions and drop them into a box.
Each student picks one out of the box, before writing on that
question for a suitable set amount of time.

SCRABBLE BOX
Patter (2006)

Select 10 random tiles from a Scrabble box. Try to see how
many totally new words you can create. Real words don't
count. For instance, here are the letters I had to work with.

They can also write about their favourite programmes.
They can write a report on different matches like cricket,
football, hockey etc.

TYPING GOOGLE DOC

Peterson (2017)

Project a Google Doc and call up a student to write for one
minute. The next student will add on to what the first
student wrote for one minute. One after another, the
students work together to write a funny or sad short story.

ABCya.com is a learning website that provides reading and
writing and games suitable for grade 1 until grade 6.
As pupils are more engaged and prompted towards games,
this site provides interactive games that not just help them
improve in their education but also make them love to learn.
It also provides an extensive variety of games and is neatly
organized for easy usage for the students and also teachers.

Arranging jumbled words until it become a complete sentence
will enrich pupil's writing and reading comprehension as well
as applying organization skills.

modeling how to expand and refine their writing throughout
the writing process.

OPINION WRITING

Oakdome (2017)

Pupils will use use the OREO acronym to write opinion pieces.
They will state an Opinion about a topic, supply a Reason
supporting their opinion, give an Example supporting their
opinion, and restate their Opinion.

SWITCH

Salah (2021)

Switch is an remedial activity can be done during writing
lesson. For smaller class size, this activity can be done as a
whole class activity however for a bigger class size this can be
done as a group activity.
Teaching materials needed will only be a card like above and a
marker pen. In groups of eight, teacher distributes the same
cards to all groups. When the activity starts, pupils write
down a negative effect of getting up late and when teacher
says switch, pupils have to pass the card to the next group
even if they have not yet finished writing. All pupils in a group
will have the opportunity to write.

Fun ESL Games (2019)

Rooster Lion

Dolphin Whale

Writing Bags Race is a simple yet fun activity to get pupils into
writing. Teacher provides bags of flashcards as above and
divides pupils into two groups. The group who write the most
words will win the race. One pupil from each group will go at a
time, run to the bag and randomly selects a flashcard then
quickly writes it onto the whiteboard.

Fun ESL Games (2019)

Kimbap Burger

Passing Cards Race is a group activity. A row of chairs is set
and a pile of flashcards as above placed at both sides of the
ends. Pupils are divided into two groups and will be sitting in a
row. Team member who sits the farthest from their pile will
be the one writing the word on the board. Then, the whole
team scooches and continue passing the cards for the next
writer.
