Letter from Editor’s desk

You are diligent about your yearly physical check ups. You go for regular dental and eye check ups. You work out in gym thrice
a week. And you watch what you eat. You are maintaining good health, right?
Not really. When was the last time you checked in on your mental health? We often neglect to give mental health the attention
it deserves which might disturb our overall equilibrium.
So what does being mentally healthy really mean? It’s an expression we use every day and it might surprise you that the term
mental health is frequently misunderstood. Mental Health is the dance of your soul in sync with your mind and body. The
way you feel about yourself and the surroundings when you wake up in the morning, your distinct ability to deal with people
around you and effectively manage difficult situations without sweating a brow, to be on top of your game even in adversity.
So rather than saying “what’s the problem?” It’s really about what’s going well
We live in a society that glorifies multi tasking and excelling at everything that we do. This creates a lot of pressure and
unnecessary stress which might cause health issues like anxiety and depression. Life is imperfect and it is absolutely perfect
to be imperfect. And when we accept this fact and are aware of who we are, we have taken the first step towards our mental
wellbeing. Good mental health isn’t just the absence of mental health problems. Being mentally or emotionally healthy is
much more than being free of depression, anxiety, or other psychological issues. Rather than the absence of mental illness,
mental health refers to the presence of positive characteristics.
Mental health can be boosted by six possible ways
1. Keeping a positive outlook: There is credible research that points to the health benefits of positivity, including an
enhanced immune system, better coping skills, and an increased life span. To be more positive assume the best is going to
happen, instead of the worst. To do this, identify any negative self-talk that runs through your head and make a conscious
effort to look at it in a positive light.
2. In this age of virtual world, we have forgotten to meet our friends and relatives personally it is important to meet
them face to face.

3. When you feel good to do things do them just don’t give it a second thought go ahead with it. For example go to a
funny movie, walk on the beach , listen music ,read a book, meet friends.
4. Think about the beautiful things you have around and things you are grateful for.
5. Relaxation techniques like Yoga, mindfulness meditation, deep breathing or even a spa for that matter would help
you relieve any stress.
6. Find your inner circle of acceptance: When it comes to the individuals we spend time with, we should seek those who
accept us as we are. A strong support system is absolutely essential when prioritizing mental health particularly for those
who have struggled with mental wellbeing in the past. So surround yourself with affection when possible in order to thrive.
7. Consult the experts: In our society, consulting a psychologist or a psychiatrist is still considered taboo. But it really is
very simple. Sometimes we just need to communicate with someone who understands the working of mind and brain better
than us. It is very normal and if taken in the right spirit will result in supremely positive outcomes. There are also other experts
such as healers, energy workers, life coaches and so on. You just need to be aware of the need of the hour and should not
hesitate to consult the right person because sometimes a little help with someone asking a right question, guiding towards
a right choice or just hearing you out might change everything for better.
We are so surrounded by things around us that we generally ignore the emotional messages that actually tell us something
is wrong and we just tend to distract them by acquiring various habits which are even more harmful to our body. We bottle
things up thinking that no one is noticing us. But it is supremely important to be aware. If you aren’t waking up fresh and
raring to go for the day ahead, it is time to take that one small step- to incorporate people and things in your life which bring
happiness to your soul.
As someone has rightly said, you are worth finding, worth knowing, worth loving”. Don’t ignore your mental health today or
it will be a problem tomorrow.

THE STORMY

SESSION

Taking the elevator down I was lost, not really understanding how do I gather my
haywire mind. The time was 6pm and 4 hours of the brainstorming counselling
with the sex workers was the most herculean session of my life. The word ‘LUXURY’
started detesting so much that the bag in my hand I just shoved it as soon as I
tried to wriggle in my car. Though I was all alone I felt clustered. These young girls
aged 19-22 who posed as the sex workers changed so many perceptions of me.
These two days along with my three associates four hours each left me gasping
most of the time. Eight beautiful well mannered ladies sitting in front of us looked
nothing less than us in any aspects and any new entity entering that room would
never be able to understand their profession.
Well the volley of questions, answers, conflicts, debates and candidness there
always used to be a time when I would step back and go into a terror of thoughts.
Well the story about my experience can go on and on.
We four friends had decided to offer them jobs in range of 30/45 k for three
months after which they could continue on their wish so that there is a surety
of their expenses taken care, but to our surprises that was not at all their type
of remuneration as they earned much more and that by just working few
hours a day. Well out of respect two of them did say that they join our offices
but I am sure it was just to let not our spirits go down.
Here these girls we went to counsel we thought we bring up their esteem
but they were too confident or at least they portrayed so. I just shared a
conversation which I totally did not know how and what to react.
Amidst the conversation during counselling I asked one of them that
doesn’t it hurt them mentally or physically when they are performing
the act without their wish and here came the most unexpected answer
“ I treat this as a MEDITATION wherein my body and my soul doesn’t
interfere with each other also it’s not necessary to mix physical and
mental status”

Well though I behaved very strong at that point of time I internally had no
qualms of further talks. We behaved uptight and tried to make them see light
through PPT and also talks by a gynaecologist where we offered to support 100
free checkups of their family and friend.
To come to the crux so many outlooks are different, so many perceptions are half
baked. But we need to join hands and not get boggled down and even if by any
chance one life changes we have done our bit.To try and not succeed is better
than assuming than not trying at all

Hair
hair care
anjali shere

care & tips

any people believe that it’s an old wives’ tale that you lose more hair during
the summer according to Dr Anjali Shere that’s true. While we all experience
some amount of hair loss on a daily basis, you might start noticing a few
extra hairs clogging up your hair brush (or shower drain) around this time of
Myear. “Seasonal hair loss is actually a thing,” “Research suggests that women
have slightly higher rates of telogen during summer. Telogen is known as a resting phase for
the hair follicle, which means that the hair is extra prone to shedding and falling out.”
When hair is subjected to more extreme weather, as much as 70 percent of strands can
prematurely enter this resting phase, leading to more hair fall than usual, she says. “This
would explain why many women experience this heightened hair loss typically in July when
it really starts to heat up outside, and I see it often as well in later autumn.”, Says Dr. Anjali
Shere MD, Dermatologist.
Typically, though, seasonal hair loss isn’t a cause for concern. She says that “As hair falls out,
hair regrowth is occurring as well. As long as you are not noticing actual balding or thinning
to your hair, new hair will regrow and your hair will be fine but incase it doesn’t there are few
tips to beat the heat this summer.”
Use a scarf or hat to cover your head when you’re out in the sun. Not only does this provide
extra protection, but it also helps your scalp to retain moisture. A hat reduces damage
caused by wind, especially if your hair is prone to tangling.
Try to blow-dry your hair as little as possible. It is already exposed to a significant amount of
heat on a daily basis in the summer, and it will probably air-dry quickly anyways, so give the
blow dryer a break and go au naturel if you can. Avoid flat-irons, too, as they will do further
damage to already-dry hair. Plus, a sleek hairstyle only makes that frizz stand out more.
While the sun is drying out your hair, make sure you help restore some moisture and life in it
by using a rinse-out conditioner. Get one that suits your hair type and texture

Summers already dries your hair out and causes damage to them. So make sure you go easy
on any chemical hair treatments during this period. Avoid too much coloring whether at
the spa or home.

One quick way to add some protection is to run your hands lightly through your hair after
applying sunscreen to your body.
Coconut oil is good at penetrating the hair shaft. Shampoo hair as usual, then work in oil
from ends to roots. Rinse, then condition as usual. Your hair should feel moisturized
afterward, but not greasy.

Avoid pulling anything through your hair when it’s wet, since that’s when it’s most
susceptible to breaking. Wide-tooth combs are most gentle for untangling hair, as
brushes can pull and tear when they snag strands.

Slovenia

Slovenia in a goodie bag!

Old world charm, with a slow-paced progress, Slovenia is safely nestled between the biggies of Europe, enjoying a strategic location in
the European continent (once a part of former Yugoslavia). Couldn’t wait to see this little “wonder package” steeped in history, keeping its
ethnographic features intact!

Lake Bled is the epitome of natural beauty
with its glacial emerald green waters that
beckon you to gape endlessly, mesmerizing
you. Surrounded by the snow dusted Julian
Alps, a tiny island in the center and a 1000
years old castle perched on a nearby cliff
completes the setting of a postcard.

What more could one want whilst eating
the famous scrumptious, “Kremsnita” (Bled
Cream Cake) beside the lake at one of the
cute lakeside cafes?

My exploration started with Lake Bled

Triglav National Park, Slovenia
Well, bled isn’t complete without a hike in the the Triglav
national park — “Slovenians pride”. As the tradition goes,
you wouldn’t be called a true Slovenian if you haven’t
climbed the Mt. Triglav! (I wouldn’t dare, never mind
being called a Slovenian at that!)

A drive through the park which houses the serene Lake Bohinj is worth a photo
stop (Time stands still here, and so does the lake)

Just as nearby is Vogel Ski Resort accessible by a glass bubble cable car which
deports you to a sight of skiers in full throttle.

Slovenia
reshma mehta

Satiating my thirst with Laska and Union their local beers,
and my hunger at Gostišče Erlah (Cafe De Degustation)
on my way back to lake Bled, I rejoiced in my day well
spent.
Piran, Slovenia

Waving a goodbye to bled and welcoming myself to the eclectic town of
Ljubljana, designed by the local architect Jose plecnik, I take a walking tour in
Stare Mesto (old town).
Being a car free zone, I pass through a treasure trove of varied architecture
(Ljubljana castle, dragon bridge, triple bridge etc.) ending the glorious history
lesson with their vintage white of the region, Goriska Brda.

In around Ljubljana there is plenty to see, one being the Karst region famed
for its 2 million cave system, the Postonja caves, which leave you spellbound!
A fairy tale land created by various natural art forms of limestone stalactites
and stalagmites taking you through a maze of passageways, crevices and
caverns.
Ljubljana, Slovenia
So now my want of seaside zeal takes me to Slovenia’s Adriatic coastline,
where a tiny medieval village of Piran lies, with its charming seaside cafes and
sun kissed rocky beaches.
With the unending deep blue of the Adriatic bringing in a breeze of fresh air.
Sadly though, enriched with a heavy heart I must bid adieu to this pretty
bundle of joy.

Women’s Day Articles

Pooja Jain

Who is that one person I think of first who will unconditionally be there for me in times of stress? Who is she who cannot never ever see
tears in my eyes? Who will do everything possible to the best of her ability to support me? Who is that confident woman always learning
and growing? Yes you guessed it right. She is none other than my mom. She is my best friend, elder sister, philosopher and guide. Her inner
strength in times when she herself and her near and dear ones are going through so much pain inspires me no end. Her childlike enthusiasm
for life and love for people is so endearing. She has always believed in me and made me believe I am the best. There is nobody in this whole
wide world like my “MOM” and I give immense gratitude to almighty for having her in my life.

Sonali Gupta

The woman I wanna acknowledge today on this day is “ ME” Yes, “ME”. Yes, it sounds pompous. Yes it sounds narcissistic. No, I am not self
obsessed. And no, I am certainly not selfish. The moment we give ourselves any credit, we are pulled down instead of up. We have been
entrained to put ourselves down and get others up on the pedestal instead. Yes, I am all in for being humble and being kind. Yet, how many
of us have been known to truly honour ourselves? How many of us are taught even as children to give a pat on our own backs and be proud
of ourselves? So that we may never need anyone else to validate us? So, that we may have it all within us to make us complete as individuals.

We are so unique in our own ways and who else but we ourselves can have our own back? It is often said when we love ourselves, everyone
else can radiate and bask in that love too. So, why not acknowledge who we are? Why not grace The woman I am? The woman I was and the
woman I have become. I salute that person inside of me. Who has lead her life as she has. And, I salute every woman inside of themselves
who have from the day they were born endured all that it took to be and become who they are today.
All the girls in the process of becoming woman....my message on this day today would be to own and claim yourselves as woman. To be your
own woman. Not seek it outside of you. Not to compete with another man or woman to show your worth. Worthiness is inside of us and
it is that part of us that we have to acknowledge and have gratitude for. The magic is inside all of us, we only have to be it. And so, to all the
women who I have met and known, the one I am born to, the one that I live with.... to all of them I have admired and said, Wow, I’ll have that
too.... I am deeply in gratitude to all of you, for choosing to be who you are.... so I could become who I am. Saluting the woman inside each
one of us. What would it take for all of us to acknowledge the Power, the Shakti and the woman within us

Rinku Tandon

The woman who has touched , inspired and motivated My Life is none other than “Jayalalitha” Jayalalitha in a Man’s world was a woman of
substance and is believed to be an embodiment of divinity and a goddess .she was such a politician , who was always keen to observe the
sufferings of the people, living below the poverty line. She introduced so many innovative projects to uplift the living standards of the poor
and the less priveledged.Furthermore, she was not only a revolutionary leader, but also Amma to the masses, a woman of substance and a
politician of steel to those who dealt with her or crossed swords with her, aloof to the world but tender and compassionate to the few who
were close to her, she was an enigma..She was one of the iconic examples of her determination , to accomplish things that other would have
considered impossible

Dr. Anjali Shere

Life is inspired by that someone in everyone’s life. Who motivates u or inspired u every day and more so when u r down!! In my life one such
woman is there for whom I live and who lives for me! She is 6 year old daughter of mine. Her mere presence in my life is very inspiring to carry
on my daily chores! When I am down and out and I see her face I feel all the trouble is worth it.

Rebecca Dewan

From the day I was born to the first step i took and my journey since then the woman who has inspired guided and taught me everything
I know has been my mother ,mother which is just one word but has endless and unconditional love and support in its depth ,warmth and
light ,in the challenges of life the one beam of hope and and shine through various highs and lows and an inspiration to achieve your dreams
at any age and any corner of your life ,MY MOTHER is the one woman who I look up to .

Tarang Jain

I’M BLESSED TO BE YOUR DAUGHTER Today , when I’m getting an opportunity to write About a women who inspired me, many have been
an inspiration but I only want to talk about my MOTHER today . Every small thing she did or didn’t . Every emotion she expressed or didn’t ,
makes me look back and think

Why she behaved in a manner she did , and was that a better way to handle a situation. All she did , makes so much sense today ,and I find
all my answers in her past behaviour. Loosing my mother was like loosing ground under my feet . Everything was blank. That’s the time I
realised it was my mothers SUPPORT, LOVE, DIRECTION AND FAITH in me that I could see ground to walk on. Well , life is easy for no one . It’s
how , eventually you perceive from your surroundings and learn. It was time to find my own path and learn to live life all over again. Sending
all my love to all the mothers and women who have helped another women find her path.

Dimple Marwaha

I had a friend in college who came from a very humble single mother abode. She was not very academically bright but had an amazing aura
and people were naturally attracted to her personality. She dropped out of College to complete her graduation elsewhere. She took up a
job with a start up insurance company and today she is Vice President in that same company. In her 17 years at that company she has been
instrumental in guiding homemakers and other women to start up a career in selling insurance. This womans day i would like to say I am very
proud of Rinku Kakkar, Vice President at Maxlife Insurance Company, one of the people I esteem very close to my heart and whos journey
inspires me and I definitely look up to her. I am glad to have such an inspiration in my life.

Reshmaa Ajbani

Reshmaa Ajbani is a true believer in herself. She believes that if you manifest your goals and dreams, it turns into reality! She successfully
operates her own business company - Precious Momentss, an event planning company she started 4 years ago with great determination &
vision in addition to caring for her two awesome children. The one woman in my life who inspires me is my own mother, Mrs Geeta Mahrotri
playing roles of a mother, sister, daughter in law , housewife , grandmother. She is a graceful woman and has taught me to always excel in
whatever I do and to never give up.

Raveena Aswani

The only lady which inspires me the most is Michelle Obama .. Michelle Obama , the First Lady of the United States was raised in one
bedroom apartment in Chicago before she went on to excel in academics and study at Princeton and Harvard . She is considered the most
stylish leading lady . .furthermore , she has given millions of people back home in Nepal and around the world a message , a hope that with
perseverance , hard work and integrity any dream could come true !!!! She is incredibly intelligent , caring and a true substance for all the
women ..Michelle Obama is a force to be reckoned with and a role model .. She has elegance and ability to try pretty much anything in terms
of style , print and fabric . She’s certainly gving First Ladies and female heads of States a run for their money !!! Lastly She is working on a
campaign to fight childhood obesity !!!
My Message on Women’s Day ----Woman is blend of “Beauty with Brains “ who can put all things right!!!Happy Women’s Day !!!! My Deep
Reverence to my Dear Mom , Who will always be forever the first woman I have ever loved this much !!Happy Women’s Day!!!

Women are the real architects of the society. People usually underestimate the responsibility and power a homemaker has. as a homemaker
we just don’t have the responsibility to look after my house, we have the ability to turn a child into a beautiful and well civilised human being
who could bring a huge change in the society.
so every single woman is empowered with a great sense of power, the magic lies in recognising it.

Krishaa Ghanasingh

Dedicated to Soma Bhatta, thank you for motivating me and showing me that women are important in the jewellery industry! Being an
outsider and a woman it was a challenge for me to being taken seriously or respected for my thoughts or strategies, however as time went
by and after what I suggested started working then my family and my colleagues started respecting me and I would always remember my
friend Soma Bhatta, Editor of the Retail Jeweller India magazine who said that the jewellery industry sells a product to women and only
women best know how to do so. This was very inspirational as a woman and it kept me thinking about myself whenever I would think of a
product launch or a marketing strategy and its really worked well connecting with women who are my target audience.

Nikita Kaur Sahani

It’s always that a woman is inspired by another woman, a daughter is always motivated by her mother, a friend is always there for another
friend by her side. In every aspect there is always a woman behind a man and a woman’s ‘success’. In case, my main man hero, my mentor is
my dad. My mom has always been my best friend. My dad is my idol who believed in me and provided me strength to hold my head high.
He never discriminated between a girl and a boy. As a woman, I did not feel any limitations.
His words were “ Make your dreams come true.” My passion into my profession, being a professional make-up artist & making him proud
mattered to me a lot. My strong work ethics has taught me that getting what you want in life means working hard for it and earning it.
