Introduction and Editor’s Report Simon Yates
Introduction
This booklet has been created due to the cancellation of the AGM
scheduled for Sunday the 5th April 2020.
It is intended that a brief AGM will take place at the ILOC International
Rally at the Baskerville Hall Hotel over the weekend of the 4th to 6th
September.
Editor’s Report
I hope everyone looks forward to receiving their copy of La Vera Vista
and thoroughly enjoys reading it. May it bring you a brief moment of
distraction in the difficult times ahead.
On behalf of the club, I want to thank all those members who contributed
and made my job so much easier. It’s much better than my previous
exploits as a cycling club magazine editor when I had to continually
badger the members for content.
I am happy to continue as Editor of La Vera Vista and want to make a few
more changes to further modernise its appearance.
If you have any comments or suggestions regarding LVV then please
send them to me and they will certainly be considered. After all, it is OUR
club magazine and should be in a format and have the content that is
approved by the majority of ILOC members.
Many thanks
Simon

Chairman’s Report 2019 - 2020 Mark Hastings
I’m writing my report on Thursday 2nd April, a few days before what should have been
our club AGM. I think that it’s generally viewed by most club members as the start of the
season, but sadly this year’s AGM has had to be postponed because of the Coronavirus
emergency. These are unprecedented times in British history and needless to say, this
will have an impact on club activities for the foreseeable future. But now is the time for
positive reflection on what has been a very successful year.
First and foremost, it is incumbent upon me to thank the committee in its entirety for
their tireless efforts over the past year. Each and every one of them has played their
part in the day to day running of the club and ensuring that it is a club that we can all be
truly proud of. Every aspect of their contributions have been professional, passionate
and timely. I feel truly honoured to chair such a dedicated band of Laverdistas! For this
reason, I am happy to stand again as Chairman if you will allow me the privilege of doing
so for a further term.
Looking back over the past year, I think that everyone would agree the highlight was the
Baskerville weekend. Several of your committee members (ably led by Keith Prentice)
went out of their way to find something different to do that would make the event a
special one for the 70th anniversary of Laverda. Sadly, earlier plans to create an event
that was a little different had hit a brick wall, despite the best efforts of a number of
members. Shelsley Walsh provided just such an opportunity and those that attended all
seemed to enjoy themselves. There was of course the celebration cake too, which didn’t
last long once the assembled folk descended on it. All in all, a memorable weekend but
we could have done without the ambulance on the Sunday morning!
Elsewhere, a number of new meetings have sprung up around the country, driven
entirely by enthusiastic members keen to get together with like-minded enthusiasts. I
think it’s a great measure of a club that these spontaneous meetings are created from
nothing and I know that several members travelled a considerable distance to support
and attend these new meetings.
2019 also saw Laverda taking part in The Motorbike Show with Henry Cole. Special
thanks has to go to Malcolm Cox who sourced all the bikes for the show and coordinated
efforts to get a good turnout on the day. Henry loved the Laverda too, which is always
good news. One of my goals as chair is to try and increase awareness of this great
marque through publicity. There are several projects that I’m working on currently to do
just this, so watch this space.
Stafford 2019 was again a highly successful weekend for the club. The stand was as
always second to none, largely down to the hard work and efforts of Regalia Ted (design)
and Keith Prentice (display bikes). Several bikes were recognised by the organisers,
including Alan Rollo’s fabulous RGA and Malcolm’s ‘as new’ 3C. The club also won the
2
award for Best Non Japanese Stand. However, Stafford could not be the success it is
without the support of those members who not only provide bikes, but also stick around
for the weekend to talk to enthusiastic punters. As in previous years, the club also took
the opportunity to present a cheque for £750.00 to the National Association for Bikers
with a Disability. The funds were raised as a result of the Baskerville raffle and matched
funding from the club itself. They are always extremely grateful and every £700.00
raised helps to get another biker back on the road where they can continue to enjoy the
freedom that only a bike offers.
Looking forward, I have been working (on behalf of the ILOC) with the Classic Motor
Hub to create a brand new event for 2020. Charity Ride-it Day is due to take place on
Saturday 16th May 2020 and is primarily aimed at classic bike owners. It is set to be
an event with a difference that only somewhere like the Classic Motor Hub could offer.
All things being equal, I hope that the event will still take place on the proposed date.
Once again, this will be a charity event, with funds raised going to the Thames Valley Air
Ambulance.
Finally, although the club is in good health financially, I will be proposing a small rise
in the cost of club membership in the near future. This is primarily to ensure that the
club remains financially stable, to cover the increasing costs of providing club services
and to build a significant ‘campaign fund’ ahead of the 75th Anniversary in four years
time. We have certainly learnt a great deal from our efforts to create a special event last
year and will put this experience to good use in creating a celebration that befits such a
significant anniversary.
I guess that’s it from me, other than to say thank you for all your support over the last
year. Let’s hope that we can all get back to riding our Laverdas some time soon. In the
meantime, here’s wishing you and yours a safe and healthy 2020.
All the very best,
Mark
                                                                                                                                                           3
Advertising Secretary’s Report Chris Booth
All advertisers in LVV and on the website have fully paid for their adverts throughout
2020.
For the 2020 LVV advertising campaign we lost only 1 advertiser from last year –
Motolegends.
To retain Vintage Sign Designs business I had to give them a 10% discount on last year’s
price.
Similarly with Morton’s website banner. I reduced the price from £75 down to £50 for the
year.
Total advertising revenue for 2020 was £2,879.51. This is down 10.8% from last year’s
figure of £3227.11. These figures are excluding the £450 for the 3 years sponsorship of
our membership card from RH Insurance.
Looking forwards to 2021’s revenue, I expect to lose Vintage Sign Designs ad and
Morton’s web banner, plus of course Slater’s, who are looking to sell their business this
year. Maybe an approach to the new owner, if the business is sold, would be appropriate.
Business has virtually dried up because of the Coronavirus. I have only had 2 telephone
calls in the last 6 weeks. This will make my replacement’s job even easier until November
when the invoices have to be sent out.
All my work over the last 3 years is saved on flash drive which I will forward to whoever
takes over.
As you all know, I have resigned as of Sunday 5th April 2020. All take care and be safe
and be healthy.
Regards
Chris Booth
ILOC Advertising Secretary.

Events Co-ordinator & Tools Librarian’s Report Keith Prentice
Tools
All goes well in the tools department. A total of 19 tools have been
loaned out since the last AGM.
Events
2019 saw a good number of events throughout the year, the highlight of
the which has to be the day at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb.
The full calendar is out for coming year, so get out on your Laverda &
enjoy.
There are a good number of local events and the organisers who put the
effort in to running them need and deserve your support to keep them
going in the future.
This is going to be a year like no other and events are being postponed or
cancelled given the on going situation. Should you dare to venture out
do check the event website for up to date information. Let’s just hope this
doesn’t turn out to be a year of non-events.

Regalia Officer’s Report Ted Aves
My report to the 2019 AGM advised a change of direction for Regalia and the focus of 2019 was very much to
put this into practice. My overall objective was to clear the decks and make Regalia transferable to another
volunteer, or, as a minimum, to enable me to reduce the amount of time being dedicated to the position.
I sold off all blank stock and most of the equipment that I had used during the previous seven years, leaving a
basic stock of Show Special shirts that anybody could take to an event and sell. I also passed over manufacture
of garments to Redline Clothing at the beginning of 2019, thereby making sure that a choice of garments was
always available.
I’ll accept that using a professional supplier has its positives and negatives. I have received very little feedback
about Redline, except to say that the choice of designs is a little bit less ‘exciting’ than when I was making items.
Things are due for a re-design, but I was waiting to see if anybody came forward to take over the position
of Regalia Officer. I also accept that items can be a bit more expensive from a professional operation but for
the Club’s part we have tried to keep the cost of garments to a minimum, mostly by not insisting on taking a
healthy cut of sales. I have never viewed Regalia as a primarily money-making operation; it is there mostly to
service everybody’s desire to wear Laverda orientated clothing.
The position of Regalia Officer can now be transferred to another volunteer quite easily.
As I have said before, and elsewhere, I have greatly enjoyed my time as Regalia Officer and serving on the ILOC
committee.

Membership & Secretary’s Reports Ruth and Julian Coster
Secretary’s Report – Julian Coster
Meetings arranged and minutes and other paperwork written as required.
Following the cancellation of the AGM came up with the alternative ‘cut-
down’ version to be held at Baskerville.
Worked with Ted to upgrade the rotating stand by fitting lights to the
deck.
Membership Secretary’s Report – Ruth Coster
As of 13 April 2020 there are currently 673 members. At the same time
last year there were 645 members.
Nothing else to report as its all working smoothly.

Archivist Report Andy Jessopp
The archive continues to gain a few items, mostly recent magazines
donated by well intentioned fellow motorcyclists and some of the
excellent display material produced by Regalia Ted for shows.
The number of inquires for information remains low but that’s not an
issue.
The majority of material still remains boxed but I hope in the next twelve
months to find new premises where I can display some of the more
interesting items.
Viewings of the archive can still be arranged if a few days advance notice
is given.

Website
Hosting was transferred to a new company in September. This improved email delivery,
reduced spam and boosted site security.
Routine work includes updating application software; applying security patches; per-
forming daily backups & security audits; domain & licence renewals.
The Events list is maintained using Keith’s input.
MailChimp was used to email members about the AGM postponement due to Covid-19.
Similarly, a trial was undertaken to make LVV available online following temporary clo-
sure of our printer, Oxuniprint.
Please remember to click on the Home page banner ads when you get your insurance /
renewal quotes because advertisers record the traffic their ads generate. Also say you’re
a club member if you phone them.

Access to the forum, gallery; library and other online member services including dis-

removed at this time of year. This prompts around a third of them to pay up.

Treasurer’s Report Martin Denham
The following Treasurers reports should, I hope, be fairly self-explanatory, and follows the
format used for many years.
The first report covers the 2019 calendar year and lists the main income streams, with
the annual total, as well as the expenditure, again with the annual total. The end of
year cash position lists the balance in each of the accounts held by the club.
As you may know, the club has both a current and savings account at a high street bank,
as well as two PayPal accounts. Until recently, the club had one PayPal account which
was used for the majority of on-line payments into the club, including membership and
regalia sales, as well as supporting some expenditure, mainly associated with regalia and
show related transactions.
Recently, the club opened a second PayPal account, specifically for club membership,
and this was done to allow the club to benefit from reduced PayPal fees.
There is also a separate regalia bank account, effectively a float, managed by the regalia
officer, to enable them to action regalia related transactions (stock purchases, invoice
payments, etc.) locally without requesting the treasurer to action every payment request,
with a summary of transactions provided to the treasurer on a regular basis.
The final item on the annual report is the funds held by the club at the end of the
calendar year. However, as much of the club's income occurs around the new year, and
most of the expenditure relating to shows and other events occurs during the warmer
months, I have also included a report showing the club's position at the end of the
first quarter of the year, once most advertising and membership renewals have been
received.
This shows that the club remains in a healthy position for the year ahead, and hopefully
the current corona virus crisis abates, allowing us to enjoy our Laverda’s and attend club
related events.
