Athena and the story of athens Greece
By: Elle Jonic
Athena would always act so kind and hard working towards people, but there
was one god that Athena didn’t particularly get along with. Poseidon. Athena
was often called the goddess of war and poseidon the god of the sea and many
other weather phenomenons. One day, there was a job opened where one god
could watch over and protect this new city. Since Athena and Poseidon were
both very strong and powerful, they both wanted the job which made Athena not
want to get along with Poseidon any more.
In order to get the job to watch over the city, both Athena and Poseidon
presented gifts to the cities citizens. Poseidon went first and stabbed the
ground to make water come out and turn it into a sea. He also said that he
would build boats on the water so that people could sail all around the world
too. Then Athena stepped in and said, “Taste the water,” and when that took a
drink, it was salt water which was not drinkable like the citizens had wanted.
Then it was Athena’s turn to present a gift to the city citizens. She also started
by stabbing the ground and out of it came a tree. An olive tree. The wood from
the tree was good for making houses to keep people warm, and there was
delicious fruit on the tree to which was olives. Unlike Poseidon's water, these
olives tasted very good. Because the city citizens liked Athena’s gift better, she
got to rule over the city and the city was named after her. It was called Athens.
Other information from her early life
Athena’s life started out by not having a mother. This was because Zeus,
Athena’s father said that Athena’s mother Metis would have trouble giving
birth so he swallowed Metis whole before she could, then Athena was born
out of her father Zeus’s brain. This is how she got her cleverness. When she
was born in Zeus’s brain, she was fully grown and dressed in armor. By the
looks of her armor, everyone knew that one day, she would be a great
warrior.
Later in Athena’s life, she was called the goddess of wisdom. She was
named this for her teachings of arts and crafts and for her teachings of how
to think clearly with lots of thoughts in your mind and of how to live a happy
healthy life. Also, Athena would lots of times have an owl by her side. This
was also part of why she was named the goddess of wisdom.

painted on it to show her importance:
