Mrs. Ann Infante scored. In France, the Baccalauréat is considered the first qualification of university study. This is

OIB: International Option for the Baccalaureate: The American Option

The Baccalauréate with an international option (OIB) is a very selective program spanning the last two years of Secondary
School. The OIB is not a separate diploma but rather a specialization within the framework of the French Baccalaureate.
Only students with an excellent level of English may follow this option which allows students to do advanced academic
work in history, geography and literature, taught in English. Exams include a written research paper in addition to oral and
written exams in English literature, history and geography which are heavily weighted.

Worldwide, only 0.60% of students who earned the Bac L, ES or S took the OIB. This year 55.6% of Awty sen-
iors will take the Bac with the OIB option.

Guide to the Curriculum

In order to meet the strict requirement for number of hours spent in class as mandated by the French Ministry of Educa-
tion, French students frequently meet for class during lunch as well on Mondays after school during their final year. This
makes scheduling extra-curricular activities very difficult. Despite this, the majority of the French Baccalaureate students
participate in volunteer and extra-curricular activities both at school and in the greater community. Awty offers a variety
of extra-curricular programs, including varsity sports, theater productions, musical groups and student publications.

Ranking and Grading system: Minimum hours per subject for students in 11th through 12th

Test Ranges (2013—2016) French Baccalauréat Candidates

For the majority of our students, English is a second or third language. Most are unfamiliar with the multiple-choice testing
format as it is not part of the French curriculum. Consequently, SAT and ACT scores may not accurately predict the ability
of our students to undertake and excel in college-level work.
