Study Abroad · You’ll nd
AU students at universities around the world from the Czech Republic to Costa Rica, Australia to the UK. The Of ce of International Programs strives to offer every student the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program. You are encouraged to take advantage of the different options available, whether it’s a one or two week trip to Cannes, France for a class or an entire semester abroad in Japan or Italy.
Research · Students are involved in actual research across the AU campus. Our small size means you’ll have plenty of opportunity to work hands-on with our equipment to acquire skills, co-author articles for publication in professional journals, and present at national and international conferences.
Real World Experience · Students at Alfred “learn by doing” in and outside of the classroom. Many students
take on co-op and internship opportunities, research part time during the school year or full time in the summer, expand their involvement through clubs and organizations either in their eld of study or in a new area of interest, and gain leadership training experience.
Performing Arts · We
have incredible opportunities for students interested in performing arts from behind the scenes to center stage. Regardless of your major or experience, you can participate from your freshman to senior year in theatre, music and dance.
Honors · Gaining knowledge while doing something you love is a nice surprise, one that Alfred University’s eclectic Honors Program nourishes. Students who are accepted into the program must take at least four honors seminars and complete a senior thesis project to graduate as an AU scholar. The seminars change each semester, and class size is limited to 15.

AU ATHLETICS
AU Athletics
AU Saxons compete in 19 NCAA Division III sports and two IHSA sports. About 22% of all undergraduates
play a varsity sport, and half of all
AU students participate in one of our many intramural or club sports.
Why are we called the Saxons? According to local legend, Alfred University (and the village it’s in) is named for Alfred the Great, ninth-century ruler of southern England, also known as “King of the West Saxons.” He was a distinguished leader who was also known for being a strong advocate of the value of education.
The Joyce-Walton Health and Wellness Center is a 33,000-square-foot addition to the University’s primary athletic facility, McLane Center. The Wellness Center includes a 140-meter, raised indoor track; an all-purpose court suitable for basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, tennis and other open space games; and two locker rooms with restroom facilities. A support wing houses a multi-purpose room for activities such as yoga, Zumba, martial arts, and dance.
