Foreword

While the new academic year is about to commence, it’s my kind pleasure to share that I have come
to the conclusion of first year since I took over as a Vice-Chancellor of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. At
the outset, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chancellor Mr. Chennamaneni
Vidyasagar Rao for endowing me this opportunity and also the confidence shown in me. Under the
visionary guidance of Hon’ble Chancellor, I have been striving for the betterment of the University
in all the spheres of higher education. I believe that Higher Education is a key contributor to the
growth of our social and economic capital and in a way stimulates creativity and nurtures
innovation. It also delivers our youth with the indispensable skills to be able to compete in the
global economy and is a growth engine of the national economy. In this context, I believe that it’s a
proper time to take a review of the achievements here at Shivaji University during the last one year
and ascertain the roadmap for the future. The present review report depicts blueprint of my one
year’s accomplishments. I feel proud about the recent ranking announcement by the MHRD,
National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) which ranks us at 28 position in India and first
th
amongst the non-agricultural Universities in Maharashtra. Along with this there is also good
number of benchmarking achievements and other noteworthy attainments showcasing the
scholastic quality culture of the University.

As someone has rightly said “Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your
soul; the blueprints of your ultimate achievements”, the accomplishments in the last one year have
really made me more reponsive, responsible and encouraging further to serve all the stakeholders
of the University with greater commitment. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the
stakeholders for their contributions during the year. I look forward to working closely with you all
and to continue our relationship and partnership in our march towards excellence.

Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN)

MHRD, Govt. of India has initiated GIAN
scheme in Higher Education aimed at
tapping the talent pool of scientists and
entrepreneurs, internationally to
encourage their engagement with the
institutes of Higher Education in India so
as to augment the country’s existing
academic resources, accelerate the pace of
quality reform, and elevate India’s
scientific and technological capacity to
global excellence. Shivaji University
inspite of difficulties such as no direct air
connection could get seven GIAN

Gearing towards Rain Water Harvesting

Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK), has started
implementing measures to save water on its
campus. The university has enlisted the help of the
National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, as well its
students and faculty members who are digging
farm ponds for storing water. Recently the
‘shramdan’ initiative at the university on May 2 in
the presence of enthusiastic NSS students and
faculty members was started. The ‘shramdan’
initiative went up to May 13, and the ponds will
help storing water once the hopefully ample rains
begin soon. Physical education teachers from
Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur districts participated
in this initiative and the university is getting a
good response to the voluntary work.
