Hopewell and Playright Jointly Organized Playday
for Three Consecutive Years to Celebrate Chinese New Year
Around 70 Social Club volunteers spread festive joy and cheer to
children with chronic illness
Hong Kong, 14 February 2014 – Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”, “HHL”; SEHK:
54) and Playright Children’s Play Association (“Playright”) jointly organized
“Hopewell-Playright Chinese New Year Playday” at Panda Hotel on Sunday, 26 January 2014.
The Playday had been held for three consecutive years. This year, we invited around 100
participants, including young patients aged between 1.5 and 17 years old with chronic illness
and their families, to celebrate Chinese New Year and enjoy playtime and abundant feasts. A
series of play activities, performances and buffet were arranged under the sponsorship of
Hopewell and venue and beverage sponsorship of its subsidiary, Kowloon Panda Hotel
Limited.
Around 70 HH Social Club volunteers comprising Hopewell staff, their families and friends
and 11 Playright Hospital Play Youth Ambassadors (“Youth Ambassadors”) from the
Hopewell sponsored programme - “Advance Play Actions of Hospital Play Youth
Ambassadors” worked together to spread the festive joy and cheer to the young patients.
Through carefully designed play zones and performances immersed in the theme of Chinese
New Year, volunteers inspired young patients from Princess Margaret Hospital, Caritas
Medical Centre and Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and their families to
appreciate the value of “play”.
This event is one of the programmes of “Bless Hong Kong” Campaign organized by the
Societal Engagement Task Force of the Commission on Poverty which focuses on poverty
alleviation and encourages the spirit of mutual help by organizing activities for the benefit of
the underprivileged. To implement the concept of “helping those in need, is a blessing in
deed”, Hopewell staff and their families and friends brought fun and laughter to the young
patients with chronic illness at this special and festive time of year.
Mr. William Wong, Executive Director of Hopewell Holdings Limited, said, “Hopewell
demonstrates steadfast commitment to corporate sustainability with youth development as one

of our major focuses. We have been sponsoring the Playright’s Hospital Play Development
Project since 2011. In the “Advance Play Actions of Hospital Play Youth Ambassadors”
programme, the Youth Ambassadors are able to build confidence and learn to overcome
obstacles through helping other child patients. Chinese New Year is an important traditional
festival, the Hopewell-Playright Chinese New Year Playday gave us a valuable opportunity to
strengthen our bonds with the community by sharing our blessings and joy.”
Ms. Kathy Wong, Executive Director of Playright Children's Play Association, said, “Play
unlocks the potential of children, especially on the hospitalized children and empowers them
to secure a better future. Hopewell’s support on the Hospital Play Development Project helped
the Youth Ambassadors to gain all-rounded training. We would also like to extend our sincere
gratitude for the continuous support of Hopewell and Panda Hotel in organizing the Playday
which offered opportunities for the young patients and their families to come together and
celebrate this festive event which filled with endless bliss and love.”
The Youth Ambassadors designed and managed the play zones including Red Couplets and
Mandarin Trees Making, Lion Dance, Wishing Trees Village and Catching Fortune and Luck
etc. The games were specially made by recycled materials with Chinese New Year theme
which allowed the participants to experience the jollity of festival and learn the endless
possibilities in environmental protection. The participants greatly enjoyed to use their
creativities in designing their own Chinese New Year decorations and had effervescent
moments at the magic performance of the clown. The distribution of gifts and candies by
Panda mascot and God of Wealth surprised the young patients at the end of the event.
