Excerpt from Amelia Bedelia Chapter Book #10: Amelia Bedelia Ties the Knot When Amelia Bedelia got home from school, there was a familiar car in their driveway. She jumped off her bike and ran inside, shouting, “Aunt Mary? Jason? Where are you?”
“In the kitchen!” called her mother. Amelia Bedelia was so happy she began skipping. She skipped through the living room to the kitchen. Her mother and aunt were talking in low voices. The only word she caught was “notices.” Amelia Bedelia skipped to her aunt and gave her a giant hug. “Hi, sweetie,” said Mary. “It’s great to see you again.”
Aunt Mary and her mother were having an afternoon treat. “Pour yourself some lemonade while I cut up fruit,” said her mother. Amelia Bedelia looked around. She stuck her head into the dining room. “Is Jason hiding in here?” she asked. “I hate it when he jumps out and scares me.” She kind of liked the thrill too, but she would never tell anyone that. “No, your cousin couldn’t come,” said Mary. “He loves to stay after school for sports. The only thing he’s jumping for is joy. What’s new in school for you, Amelia Bedelia?” “We just started studying flight and airplanes,” said Amelia Bedelia.
