At American Family Insurance, we believe that a dream is the
most valuable thing you’ll ever own, and we’re dedicated to in-
spiring, protecting and restoring yours — because pursuing your
passion is what makes life worthwhile.
Need help exploring your dreams? Take these steps to discover
your true passion and become inspired to dream fearlessly.
Pay attention. Time flies when you’re having fun! Take note of
the activities that make you feel immersed and interested.
Be childish. Do you remember the activities you loved as a kid?
Studies show that the things we enjoyed when we were young
are often directly tied to our adulthood passions! So revisit
some of those interests.
Ask. Don’t be shy. Ask the people closest to you what they think
your passion is. An outside perspective can help us realize how
unique our strengths really are.
Work out your dream. Passion requires nurturing, just as your
body does to stay strong. So read a book, go to a class, bounce
ideas off a friend — anything to keep your dream active and on
your mind!
Trust your inner voice. Pursuing one’s passion requires be
comfortable with your authentic self. Work on letting go of fears
and seek out people and places that make you feel like you’re
enough.
Remember, it takes a whole crew to set the stage. And when it
comes to your dream, we’re here to help. Because with the right
support, any dream is possible – and there’s no better insurance
than that.

A LOOK BACK ON 50 YEARS

Henry Maier, inspired by a visit to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, envisioned a festival
that would bring the community together while providing low cost entertainment and
revitalizing Milwaukee’s downtown.

Milwaukee’s famous breweries –
Miller, Schlitz and Pabst – were
all early supporters of Summerfest
and eventually each brand had a
stage at Henry Maier Festival
Park.

The inaugural Summerfest was held in 1968
at 35 separate locations and expanded to
60 in its second year. Summerfest later took
over the abandoned 15-acre Nike missile
site on Milwaukee’s lakefront in 1970.

The Summerfest smile
logo, which is still
used, was adopted by
the festival in 1970.

For decades, a full carnival featuring
amusement rides, games, live animal
shows and other attractions were
part of the Summerfest experience.

Venice Club opens on the grounds in 1974, introducing its french fried eggplant
to Milwaukee. Major Goolsby’s joined the grounds in 1975. Both still operate
at Summerfest today.
