The council held its second Housing Recovery
Conference on 2 November. 55 people attended.
Following the conference, Housing Recovery Action
Plan 2 was approved by Council Executive. This
sets out various initiatives that the council will aim
to progress during 2013 to facilitate a faster rate
of house building in West Lothian.

Permission granted for 2,300 houses at Calderwood
Planning permission in principle has been granted for up to 2,300 houses within part of the
Calderwood Core Development Area. Detailed planning permission has also been granted
for a first phase housing development within this CDA for 196 houses. The lead developer,
Stirling Developments Ltd, anticipates that development will commence in May. It is
expected that details of the housebuilders for the first phase of the housing development
will be announced in the next few weeks.

Winchburgh CDA update
Draft proposals have been drawn up for a new town centre in Winchburgh. Community
consultation on the proposals took place in October 2012.
Barratt Homes began work on their housing development at Winchburgh at the start of October
2012. The first house completions are expected in spring 2013. Miller Homes commenced work
on their housing development in January.
Planning permission has been granted for an extension at the Winchburgh Primary School / Holy
Family Primary School building. These works are due for completion by October 2013.
A planning application has been submitted for the erection of 29 houses and the conversion of a
steading to form three houses at Glendevon Steadings, Winchburgh.

Planning permission has been granted to West Lothian Council for 18 flats for older people
at West Main Street, Broxburn. The proposals involve the refurbishment and alteration of a

In December 2012, planning permission in principle was granted for up to 400 house at a brownfield
site at Lower Bathville, Armadale. The site forms part of the Armadale Core Development Area.

Maple Oak Ltd has submitted a planning
application for the erection of 63 houses and 107
flats on the site of the former Edgar Allen Works at
Whitburn Road, Bathgate. The site is adjacent to the
town centre and overlooks Bathgate Golf Course.

School extension plans approved
Planning permission has been granted to extend Balbardie and Boghall Primary Schools.

The extra pupil places provided will support
planned housing growth in Bathgate.

New school places planned in Armadale

Planning permission has been granted for a new vehicular access to St. Anthony’s Primary School,
Armadale. This improved access will allow the school to be further extended to support continued
house building in Armadale. A planning application has been submitted to extend Armadale
Primary School. The works at these schools are expected to be completed during 2013.
