2021-2022
President

Well, let me be the first to apologize for the lateness of
the ESA'ly Yours. Life has been so darn busy lately
getting my article together just wasn’t on my radar
when it should have been! So I’m sorry for the late
delivery of the newsletter but here it is!
It has been a great start to our year. All of our chapters
have been busy doing great things across the state as
events are slowly able to be held again. Please
remember to shoot me a quick email or text with
different events you have going on so I can try and
make it. I love getting to visit everyone and am really
excited to see the different ways we are holding events
across the state.

I was also able to attend my first MARC conference this year which was awesome! As
someone in education, I really appreciate the emphasis on learning at the conference.
We heard from a variety of people and organizations about what they do to better
their communities just like us. It was also great to see people in person that I have not
gotten a chance to see in some time. Talking with other members from different states
about what they are doing is always a good time. And our Oktoberfest theme for
MARC 2023 was a hit! Start thinking about what role you may want to play in helping
IL host a great MARC conference in 2023.
As the holiday season is now upon us, I just want us all to take time to enjoy good
friends and family and keep those that may be having a tough time in your thoughts.
So from me to all of you, have a fun and relaxing holiday season and I look forward to
seeing everyone soon!

WALT WHITMAN

President-Elect

It’s FALL…..my favorite time of the year!! Who doesn’t love pumpkins, warm sweaters, falling
leaves, colors changing?? I could go on and on and on! It’s hard to believe that we are almost
through 2021, it has been a year to remember for sure!
With fall, comes recruitment month for ESA which we just wrapped up! Even though October is
focused on recruitment, we welcome new members all the time! How many chapters earned their
spot to join the ESA HQ Name that Tune music party? I know Omega Nu members are excited to
play!
The ESA website is a great resource for planning recruitment activities and they have everything
you need to plan the perfect event. Hopefully chapters are starting to get back together and enjoy
each other’s company.
Nominations are due in February for the 2022-24 ISC executive board. Chapters, please submit
them to me. If someone is interested in an office or appointment, please reach out. We need
members to step up and help serve at the ISC level! Please note my email has changed to
[email protected]
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas/Holiday Season!
Until next time, take care.

Philanthropic Report

Hello Everyone!
I hope this article finds each one of you well and doing great work for ESA and the
organizations we serve. As we are able to be out and about more among each other, I
hope that your chapter events are increasing as well. The most important thing at this
time is to make sure that we are supporting each other and also taking care of
ourselves. As we approach one third of the way into our year, I hope that each
chapter’s year is going as planned.

Workshop Coordinator

During the Illinois State Council Fall event on Saturday, October 2, 2021, our workshop
was presented by Kyle and Corey from the Mattoon YMCA. Kyle and Corey are full
time Certified Personal Trainers with degrees in Exercise Science. Their presentation
was very informative; talking about health and fitness. They stated that the most
important factors with exercise are form, repetition and consistency. Kyle and Corey
demonstrated exercises for both upper and lower body. Another key point is to
increase endurance before weight strength. “Moving better = feeling better”. So get
moving everyone! More moving=better health, better prevention of illnesses as well as
quicker recuperation. Thank you Kyle and Corey for a great workshop!

MARC Report

Our members met recently in Wichita, Kansas for the MARC Conference.

So glad to be back in person and to celebrate our Illinois sister, Kim Poling, as our
2021-2022 President along with Jill Shull as our incoming Recording Secretary.

The members got the chance to go back in time to the 50’s Sock Hop held at Rydell
High! Hoola-hoops, bobby socks, grease backed hair, curlers and the hand jive
were all over the place. I think we even saw a group of cheerleaders in the crowd.

So many ByLaw and Standing Rule updates to go through at the Business Meeting…
but Whew, we did it!!

There was a unique t-shirt quilt raffle made specifically for our two MARC
Socnhwolianrnsihnigp!s!!.!!Congratulations Beta Mu sister, Barbara Warmoth from Charleston,

The Celebration of Life was a nice change adding marriages, births and special
milestone birthdays.

It was a Beautiful Ride, this thing called Life…Glad we all took a Ride with MARC
and Past President Brenda Fields.

Awards Chair

“Happy Fall to all my Illinois Sisters!
I think fall is a beautiful time of year, and the only reason I am not a huge fan of fall is
because I am not crazy about what follows fall – winter!
As awards chairperson I need to remind you to keep track of all the amazing things you
do, and then in the spring fill out the awards sheets and turn them in so we can have a
fantastic awards ceremony at convention.
An award ceremony makes people feel that their work is valued. It shows approval and
gratitude for each person or chapters good work and demonstrates we appreciate their
accomplishments. Awards push you to do your best and to go the extra mile. Remember
we are doing our good works for the benefit of others.
I hope each of you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
Dalena Hall, Awards Chairperson

Alpha Alpha

Thanks SO much to everyone who joined Team ESA IL, the virtual walk
raised over $159,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We
appreciate all those who donated to our cause also. We were
disappointed that the event had to become virtual, but we appreciate
St. Jude for keeping making sure first and foremost that everyone is
safe.
Hoping we have a bigger and better turnout in 2022.

Alpha Upsilon

August was a very busy month for Alpha Upsilon as we had our annual Back to
School Rummage sale on the 20th and 21st of the month. This Ways and Means
event will support many of our local projects.
At the end of the month we attended a Welcome Back party hosted by President
Paula Winchester. September 10 marked the 75th anniversary of the chartering
of Alpha Upsilon Chapter. We are proud to be the oldest continuously active
chapter in the state. Our Fall Rush was kicked off with a social at the Jackson
Street Coffee Shop hosted by Rush Chairman/VP Vickie Reible and her
committee, Michelle Skinlo, Kathleen Grissom and Sherri Harper. We had a
great time.
Our Fall Banquet was held at The Brickhouse in Charleston at the end of
October. We honored four members and welcomed new pledge, Laura
Woermann. Her mom and sponsor, Sherri Harper, received her Jewel Pin. Lisa
Hubbartt was awarded her 10-year service pin. Several of their family members
were present as Lois Neff and Patti Lawson were recognized for 50 years of
service to ESA. We opened gifts revealing who our Secret Sister was last year
and drew names for a new Secret Sister this year.

Also in October we took several dozen cookies to the firemen during Fire Prevention
Week. This annual activity is our way of thanking them for their service. November
will find us collecting 5000 pairs of socks which we will distribute at One Stop
Community Christmas on December 11.

At this time of year Alpha Upsilon wishes everyone the best in the upcoming Holiday
Season.

Beta Mu

At our September meeting we were given a pumpkin shaped candy box. The
challenge to decorate and create a charcuterie candy box was met by our
members and brought to our October meeting. We have some very creative
ladies!! The contents were just as creative as the outside. The “new old-stock”
containers came from our favorite scrapbooking store, Daisy Lane
Scrapbooking and Craft Mall, purchased for “cheap” at one of their Facebook
Live Outlet Sales. Also at our October meeting, members brought socks to
donate to The Haven in Mattoon for Socktober. At our November meeting,
members brought diapers and wipes for the Choices Pregnancy Center in
Charleston.

Omega Nu

The smells of Fall is in the air. Pumpkins, apples, cider, toasted marshmallows and hot dogs on
an open fire...a great time of year!!!
IC Convention was amazing. Having never been before, I and another sister had a great 5 days,
meeting all those new people, as well as seeing old friends, it was so fun. To be around all
these people who shared the love for their communities...awesome!! This convention was
topped off with Omega Nu's on Celeste Webb becoming the 2021-2022 Workshop
Coordinator. Celeste will do great things!
Since the convention, we have been busy planning for our new year. September's first
meeting was held and we spent not only time catching up but organizing activities we will be
sponsoring. We hosted a Quarter Auction to help us with our charities. Our September Social
was meeting our perspective rush members. We introduced ourselves to them, played a few
information games, had snacks and then found out a little bit about those who are wanting to
join. We had 3 in attendance and a few more may be added. Also in September, we helped
with The Taste of Something Special, helping to raise monies for the Special Olympics of
Illinois. Whatever they needed help with, Omega Nu was there. The Cork Pull helped us collect
some monies as well. Also, in September we had a raffle by K.C. Summers, which will help us
with our tables at One Stop Christmas coming this December. This was organized by our Vice
President, Kerry Considine. You did a great job, Kerry!!!
October brought the Fall Board Meeting (Gathering) on October 2nd. Although there were few
in attendance, we still had a good meeting, Education was presented by 2 trainers from our
area YMCA. We left with tips on getting and staying stronger with proper ways for sitting and
standing, etc. Very informative! Lunch was served, then the meeting was led by Adrian and
Omega Nu's President, Misty Evans. Before leaving we awarded door prizes. Winners of those
door prizes were Joy Reed and Barbara Warmoth. Thanks to the committee for their hard
work for this meeting. October's meeting was an informative meeting to the rush members.
Dalena Hall and Kerry Considine, our Vice President, gave a little skit...too cute!! Thanks for
the laughs as well!! We look forward to our rush social with good food, entertainment and
socializing with new members. Ending the month of October with our 3rd Witches Walk
coming up just before Halloween. That committee has been so busy getting everything lined
out. A big Thank You to all of them!
Happy Halloween to all!!

Corresponding Secretary
