LXII - VANGUARDIAN IDENTITY
First of all, we would like to thank the ACS Jakarta school
community and sponsors for the support during the
preparation of this event. Without your help and support,
it will never come to live.
After the success of our previous Dance For Charity
concert in 2017, we aim to reach bigger objectives this
year. We linked the concert with one of the theme learned
in Bahasa Indonesian class, wishing it will bring more
awareness and connection to the beauty of Indonesian culture. Hence, the title LXII, or
62 written in in Roman numeric.
Timun Mas, Tiger and Mice, Roro Jonggrang, Cindelaras and Jaka Tarub. These are five
Indonesian folk tales chosen to be performed on stage tonight. Please enjoy our
interpretation of these folktales and legends through dance. Watch out for the fusion
of traditional Indonesian dance and hip-hop in some of the numbers.
This year, we are privileged to share the stage with the talented traditional dancers and
Silat artists from SMA 113, and also the coaches from Idance Studio Jakarta. We are
also blessed to have Drama CCA, Choir CCA, Art CLub, Media Resource Club, Ballet
CCA on board, adding more variety to the show.
It has been a long winding road, yet given the chance to use our craft to raise funds for
the less fortunate ones in Kupang has given us added energy and sanity in time of
needs. We hope by watching our performance, you can see and feel our love for
performing arts and also the talents we have in the school community.
Enjoy the show!

ACT I
Scene 1: Zamrud Khatulistiwa
Scene 2: Timun Mas
“Ilir Ilir”
In a village far far away, people have been up and about for hours, bustling to and fro while their children
fool around outside, awaiting the warmth of the sun.
“Anak Gembala”
The children gleefully help tend to the sheep.
“Isolation”
As families in the village happily spend time together, a heartbroken couple watches longingly from afar,
yearning to one day be able to have children of their own.
“Strange”
Hearing the couple’s pleas, the giants Buto Ijo and Buto Ireng grant their wish and present them with a
bag of magical seeds. However, once the child reaches the age of 17, she must be handed over to the
giants to eat.
“Amelia”
Weeks pass and the seeds grow into a giant, golden cucumber. At long last, the cucumber splits open,
revealing the beautiful baby girl whom they would lovingly call ‘Timun Mas’ for the years to come.
“Indonesian Krump Anthem”
17 years have passed, and the giants are fast approaching. Timun Mas’ parents hand her pouches
containing enchanted items to throw at the giants as weapons, and after a much too short goodbye, off
Timun Mas goes into the forest.
“Middle”
Exhausted, Timun Mas rests underneath a tree. At the same time, curious forest animals peek out of their
hiding spots and befriend Timun Mas.
“Whoomp! There it is”
The forest animals stall the giants as Timun Mas continues to run.
4
LXII - VANGUARDIAN IDENTITY
“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”
Timun Mas hurls one of the pouches to the giants. The seeds inside the pouch scatter and shoot up into
vines that constrict the giants.
“Kutidhieng”
The giants release themselves from the vines, catching up to Timun Mas. In a last ditch effort she flings a
pouch at the giants. The salt inside spreads throughout the forest and in a flash, the trees sink and a vast
ocean replaces the forest, drowning the giants.
“New Face”
Timun Mas returns home proud, knowing that if she had managed to survive all that had happened,
there’s no way anything else could ever bring her down.
“ANYTHING’S POSSIBLE IF YOU’VE GOT ENOUGH NERVE.”
- J. K. Rowling
Scene 3: Tiger and Mice
“Black and Yellow”
One fine afternoon, the tigers, the kings of the forest, decide to nap under the cool shade of the trees.
“Three Blind Mice”
At the same time, a group of blind mice are pleasantly wandering around the forest - until they trip on the
tigers who were sleeping on the ground. The tigers are furious about being woken up but take pity on the
mice when they explain that they are being chased by the wolves. After all, they hate the wolves too.
“What Does the Fox Say”
The wolves finally catch up to the mice, but just as they were about to pounce on them, the tigers enter to
save the day!
“Kaolo”
The tigers and wolves get into a massive battle. But what they don’t realise is that as they fight, they are
inching closer and closer into a hunter’s trap.
“Handclap”
The hunters are thrilled to see the tigers and wolves trapped in their skillfully crafted cages.
“Kecil Tapi Hebat”
The mice help the tigers out of the cages as a way of saying thank you.
“Where is the Love”
The tigers and mice take pity on the wolves and decide to let them out so long as they learn a lesson and
promise to be nice to everyone forever.
“Tutti Frutti”
The forest animals dance in glee, celebrating their newfound friendship.
“BEING KIND TO OTHERS IS A WAY OF BEING GOOD TO YOURSELF. ”
- Harold Kushner

LXII - VANGUARDIAN IDENTITY
Scene 4: Roro Jonggrang
“Tari Isun Kembang Osing”
Once, there stood the great Javanese kingdom of Prambanan, ruled by the giant Prabu Baka.
“Art Of Asia”
The palace guards are showcasing their skill in the martial arts while waiting for Prabu Baka’s arrival.
“Icon”
Prabu Baka strides into the throne room with swagger, flaunting his power together with his daughter,
Roro Jonggrang, known across the nation for being an icon of beauty.
“Mi Gente”
Roro Jonggrang puts on a captivating show of dance talent with her girlfriends.
“Humble”
Bandung Bondowoso of the neighbouring kingdom of Pengging launches an attack on the Prambanan
castle. He marches into Prabu Baka’s throne room, presenting him a choice. To surrender - or die.
“Spirit of Bali”
Prabu Baka refuses to surrender, challenging prince Bandung into a duel instead. The two clash with each
other with all their might, but prince Bandung manages to deal the finishing blow, putting Prabu Baka
into eternal rest.
“Alive”
Bandung Bondowoso celebrates his victory over Prabu Baka.
“Dari Mata”
Captivated by her beauty, Bandung Bondowoso falls for Roro Jonggrang and asks for her hand in
marriage. Roro Jonggrang wishes to reject him, but is afraid to do so. Thus, she strikes an absurd deal
with the prince, only accepting his proposal if he is able to build 1000 temples in one night.
“Kecak”
Bandung Bondowoso smugly accepts the deal. He orders his secret weapon, an army of mythical genies
to build the temples at a breathtaking pace.
“Drum Fighting”
With 999 temples completed and sunrise still a long way to go, Roro Jonggrang decides to carry out a
plan - she simulates a sunrise to scare the genies off, knowing that they are only able to work during
nighttime.
“Make Me Cry”
Roro Jonggrang manages to scare the genies off before the last temple is built. However, finding out that
Roro Jonggrang had deceived him, Bandung Bondowoso becomes so infuriated that he curses her -
turning her into stone for eternity.
“LOVE CANNOT BE FORCED, COAXED, AND TEASED. IT COMES OUT OF HEAVEN,

he’d have less opportunities to talk to her if he hands it over right away.

Girls.

A xin Fery (Head Choreographer)
“This would be our second time being a part of ACS's very own dance production and it gives us such joy
to be able to see and new faces and talents this time around. Furthermore, we are blessed with a chance
to share our vision and the stage with students from SMA 113 to conjure our own rendition of
Indonesia's folk tales, fused with modern touches.
We are immensely honored and ecstatic to be able to see the growth of these talented young souls,
channeling their effort and passion into this production. It has been a great experience sharing our
knowledge and guiding them to become a better dancer and performer. Definitely a major highlight of
our year!” (Arya Samudra for Idance Studio Jakarta)
Dimas Mangara Parasian (Choreographer)
“This is my first time working on a recital with non-professional dancers - but I
couldn't tell the difference since the students were working just as hard as
pros. I'm proud to see them coming everyday to practice, giving their best and
taking care of each other especially in catching up with the dance routines.
What you are about to see are the fruits of their dedication. Enjoy!”

Bintari Citra (SMAN 113)
“The Dance For Charity concert was an unfamiliar but exciting event with challenges and lessons that
made me progress as a person and made me put in effort to do my best. This amazing event has taught
me to always be innovative, to think on my feet and to always look out for others. Thank you to the ACS
Jakarta Dance Crew for giving me a chance to participate in this concert - I hope that ACS and SMAN
113 Jakarta will be able to collaborate again in future events. I also hope that this concert will continue
due to its noble cause.”
Lutfi Bukhori (SMAN 113)
“To be a part of the Dance for Charity concert was something new and interesting. Here, I was forced to
step out of my comfort zone and dance onstage although I am a martial artist. I am grateful to be able to
participate in this concert as it has a noble cause. I hope a concert like this will be held once more, with
even better performances.”
Shakina Maulidya (SMAN 113)
“With this dance concert I was able to learn modern dancing though I originally am only a traditional
dancer. Throughout this concert, I have also learnt to appreciate teamwork more. Thank you to ACS
Jakarta who have entrusted us from SMAN 113 Jakarta to participate in this noble event. I hope that this
dance concert can be held once again.”

LXII - VANGUARDIAN IDENTITY
Amabel Fachry (EC)
“I am excited and nervous about this dance concert because it is my first time. It’s hard to
follow the dance but I still can do it. I cannot wait for the next dance concert!”
Clarice Foo (Grade 2)
“I am happy and a little sad at the same time! I feel happy when it is my turn to practice! I
feel sad when I have to perform because I feel nervous.”
Alma Susanto (Grade 6)
“I like joining the Dance for Charity concert because I get to dance in quite a lot of parts
even though it’s my first time joining. I like the idea that I am dancing to raise funds for
charity. I get to know more about performing on stage and also I get to make friends
with other dancers from different grade levels because of this concert. It was really
worth spending my time and energy preparing for this event.”
Aulia Judojono (Grade 8)
“It was honestly one of the best experience of my learning journey in this academic year.
Despite endless rehearsals, I would always be looking forward to it because of the
passion and joy dancing gives, which makes me feel like I am invincible. Not only did I
improve my dance skills, but I made a new family who supports me. For that, I am forever
grateful to the Coaches, TIC and my fellow dancers.”
Jordan Yong (Grade 10)
“A s the days lead up to the dance concert, an excitement builds within me - along
with jitters about forgetting my routine or missing my cue. But all my concerns
disappear when I dance alongside my friends, and revel in the moment. Although
the dance concert consumes much time for preparation, it helps me to develop
deeper bonds with my fellow dancers and grow in dedication for dance. With
everyone putting in their all in this school-wide event, there’s a sense of unity
and purpose that connects us all together. Joining the dance concert was a
decision I will never regret, and an experience I will never forget.”
12
LXII - VANGUARDIAN IDENTITY
Chastity Leong (Sound and Lighting)
“Helping with this year’s Dance for Charity concert was a very rewarding experience,
and although there were problems along the way I still enjoyed supporting this event. I
would like to thank all the MRC members who helped me throughout the preparations,
and on behalf of the MRC we hope that you enjoy the concert.”
Janice Suwarna (Props People)
“Making the props for this year’s Dance for Charity concert with the other props
members has been challenging and fulfilling at the same time. Lots of time was spent
trying to craft various creative ideas for it to be brought on stage, however, the joy that
the other props members and I felt when we saw how the props can be incorporated
with the beautiful choreography far outweighs it. We enjoyed watching the rehearsals
and you definitely will enjoy this year’s DFC.”
Vanessa Jane (Costume Squad)
“If I could choose one phrase to describe my experience as a costume designer for an
event like this, it would be “Stressful but rewarding.” There’s so much thought that
was needed to be put in every character’s costume. Was it bright enough?
Comfortable enough to dance in? Too complicated to put together? It was almost
endless but after seeing what we had in mind come to life on stage, how the fabric
flowed with each dancer, it felt like all our hard work paid off. Thank you to everyone
who contributed towards making this year’s DFC costumes.”
Theora Gavrila (Backstage Crew)
“This was my first time being a part of one of the support crews in a big event, a leader at
that, and hence I had many doubts and worries. However, working together with my
fellow teammates, MRC, dancers, teachers, all those involved, helped me think through
things rationally and I must say that it was truly a memorable experience. Lastly, thank
you to all my members for helping me and everyone for the hard work!”
