Pleasant Vally Recreation & Park District

A Message from the GM

Dear Community Residents,

As we head into 2019, I can’t help but take a moment to reflect on everything we’ve

accomplished in 2018- allocating $850,000 in capital improvement projects, working with
the City to complete the senior and community recreation center needs assessment, forging
and strengthening community partnerships, and building a better community. Coupled with
continual internal process improvements, the District is always striving to better serve the
diverse needs and desires of the residents of the District.
With that, 2019 is even more exciting. We’ll start the winter months with new art, dance,
cooking, and fitness classes and programs to keep you moving and shaking. Join us for date
night on Valentine’s Day as we screen Gone with the Wind as part of our expanded 2019 Movies in the Park series. Start
your spring-cleaning with our semi-annual Rummage Sale then enjoy the Easter Eggstravaganza with arts & crafts,
vendors, a petting zoo, and a visit from the Easter Bunny!
Aside from programming, this year’s goal is to develop a 5-year capital plan as we continue to make improvements
to facilities and open space, designed to improve access and amenities across our parks system. Starting with a new shell and
updated slide at the Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center and two fields at Freedom Park, we’re also beginning the design phase of
the senior and community recreation center which will require continued support and feedback from the community.
Throughout all the projects and initiatives, the District is committed to providing the highest quality recreational
programs, classes and camps, special events, parks and open space for all. We would love to hear your feedback on the
programs offered or any new ideas you may have for something we don’t currently offer. You can make a difference and
help build new programs for future years!
As this Activity Guide’s production neared completion, Ventura County was hit with the Woolsey and Hill Fires,
taking lives, homes, and parks alike. As our communities rebuild in 2019, the District is committed - now and always - to
being a place for laughter, personal growth, recreation, fun, and when called upon, a place for refuge and recovery. We
stand #805Strong.

Here’s to a new year and a new you! - Mary Otten, General Manager
