INTENTION

Tujuan Pembelajaran
Setelah mempelajari modul ini, anda diharapkan mampu mengidentifikasi, menjelaskan dan
menggunakan unsur kebahasaan yang ada pada sebuah kalimat yang berisikan intention
(maksud/rencana).

Pengertian

Intention expression adalah ekspresi untuk menyatakan suatu rencana atau sesuatu yang akan
dilakukan di waktu yang akan datang. Definisi “intention” sendiri dalam bahasa Inggris
adalah “something that you want and plan to do” atau sesuatu yang ingin dan berencana
kalian kerjakan.

Beberapa phrase yang sering digunakan dalam intention expression :

 I would like to
 I will
 I am going to
 I would rather than

Ada dua cara untuk menyampaikan intention expression

1. Menggunakan will/would

Subject + will/would + V1 + Object/Complement

contoh :

 I will go to the water park today
 I will cook for dinner tonight
 I would rather stay at home than go shopping

2. Menggunakan +be going to untuk menyampaikan sesuatu yang sudah direncanakan.

Subject+be going to+V1+ Object/Complement

contoh :

 She is going to Japan next month.
 My daughter is going to join robotic class.
 She is going to Canada to visit her family.

merespon eskpresi tersebut .

Contoh phrase yang sering digunakan untuk merespon :

 That's sound great!
 That's a good idea!
 Good luck for your plan!

Ungkapan-ungkapan lain yang dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan maksud/rencana:
1. Would like to/would love to … (ingin/mau…)

Contoh:
 My uncle would like to have a conversation with your father
 The Manager would like to inform you further details about the job

2. want to … (ingin…)
Contoh:

 I want to paint my walls in yellow, so my room will look brighter
 Rina want to go to the library to find some great books to read

3. planning to/planning on… (berencanauntuk…)
Contoh:

 My sister planning to have another cat or dog as a pet
 I am planning on visiting my old friends in high school

4. thinking of… (berpikiranuntuk… – belumadakepastian)
Contoh:

 Susan thinking of buying him a new shirt
 The chef thinking of cooking some Italian food

5. hope to… (berharapuntuk…)
Contoh:

 She hope to see him when go there
 My wife hope to have a baby next year

6. might… (mungkinakan…)
Contoh:

 My friend might go to the university and study Chemistry
 I might have to tell you the truth

Using Will, Would like to and to be going to

Look at the excerpt from the text below. Study the sentences by paying attention to the words
in the bold-typed expressions.

Santi : So, what about you, Bayu? Do you have any plans?

Bayu : Definitely! My dad and I are going to go fishing. We plan to go fishing in a lake
Santi near my uncle’s house. Would you like to come with us?

: I don’t really like fishing. I would rather stay at home than go fishing. What
about you, Riri? What would you like to do on the long weekend?

Riri : I have made a plan with my mother about what to do on this long weekend. We
are going to practice baking cookies.

Bayu : Are you going to bake choco chips cookies like the last time?

Riri : Well, yes. That is my favourite. But we will also try to make ginger cookies.

Riri : Oh, would you like to join me to learn baking cookies? You can come to my
Bayu house.

: It’s a good idea! Or will you go fishing with me and my dad?

Santi : Uhm, not fishing I guess. But I think I would like to bake cookies with Riri.
