CHAIRMAN’S THOUGHTS - GARY VELLA

Our last game at the Meadow was a truly momentous one. Reaching the
FA Cup was of course magnificent, but to win, and in the manner that we
did, really made it a special day. The team showed great character to come
back from 2 goals down at half time and they fully deserved to knock
Coleshill out of the cup. Our reward is a trip to Malvern Town this coming
Saturday.

Tonight we look to pick up three points against a side who always give us
a good game. After Saturday’s win away at Heath Hayes, this game comes
quickly on it’s tail and gives us an opportunity to stay in the mix at the top
in these early stages. It is vital to pick up points as we hope to be involved
in a lot of FA and FA Vase games which will inevitably see us fall behind in
league games.

SECRETARY’S THOUGHTS - PAT MURPHY

Good evening folks. It’s game day five already, with four high scoring
games already lets hope the trend continues! On Saturday we came
away from Heath Hayes with a good win, after going behind we fired back
with 5 goals only for heath to score a late consolation making the final
score 5-2 with young substitute Ross Quartermaine starring with 2 goals.
We look a bit depleted in the striking department with the loss of Trea
Bertie to Alvechurch and Ben Mackey away. Then an injury to Wade Malley
to top it off!
Next Saturday we are away in the FA Cup to Malvern Town from the West
Midlands Premier Division, which is the same level as us. Then depending
on the result we will be at home on Monday to Paget Rangers with a 3pm
kick off, but if we draw on Saturday it will change to an FA Cup replay
on Tuesday evening.

Keep the faith.

VIEW FROM THE INSIDE - SCOTT EASTERLOW

On Saturday we showed that we have plenty goals in the side - we
turned up Saturday without the top two scorers and still scored 5
away from home.

In all honesty I wasn’t happy with our first half performance. We
were sloppy in possession and second to the ball.

We came out after half time and completely dominated the game
though and put the game beyond them with half an hour left. We
will need to be more on our game tonight against a strong Cadbury
side who are yet to lose a game this season.

ROSS QUARTERMAINE

Why do you play for Racing Club Warwick?
This is my first season at Racing and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead,
there are some great lads here and some top players so nice to be able to be
training and playing amongst them and it’s great to see the club progressing
the way it is.

Who is the best player you’ve played with?
I’d probably have to say Jack Burroughs who now plays for Coventry City
u23s, I’ve played with him at school for a long time.

If you’re not in good form what can you do on the pitch to in-
fluence things?
For me it would be adding a lot of energy and pace giving defenders no time
on the ball and I like to run at defenders with the ball a lot.

What drives you to get up and train in the freezing cold and
rain?
I live and breath football so I never turn down the chance for a game of footy
and always look forward to training and matches, but I do prefer it when it’s
sunny and warm!

Who’s the joker in the dressing room?
I’m still quite new to the team so only just starting to notice who the jokers
are but I’d have to say Slev and Mav so far.

What team do you support, other than Racing of course?
I’m a Coventry City fan.

What’s your favourite position?
Centre attacking mid or winger, both positions where I can get the ball and
attack but probably winger as I don’t have to run around as much.

How do you think Warwick will do this season?
Obviously I’ve only recently joined so I don’t know too much about the
league. Racing are aiming to go up and hopefully we can do that this year.
Scott and Tony have brought in both young and very experienced players this
year, there’s a good balanced squad and quality all around so let’s hope we
can win the league and get a good run in the FA Cup, I fancy Leamington
Brakes if we keep winning!

AWAY TEAM - CADBURY ATHLETIC FC

Cadbury Athletic Football Club was founded in 1994 by Chairman John Peckham and Committee
member Roger Hughes and gained entry to the Midland Combination Division Three. Their first sign-
ing was Gerry Boyle as Secretary.

The club was affiliated with the Cadbury’s factory based in Bournville, using the company’s logo as its
badge and even playing in the Cadbury’s corporate colours of purple and white. They played at the
Cadbury Recreation Ground in Bournville Lane, based within in the grounds of the company.
The ground at Bournville Lane was recognised as one of the best playing surfaces in the area, even
claiming links with the ‘hallowed turf of Wembley. The ground was laid with the same Northumber-
land turf that was used for the Wembley pitch prior to its closure in 2000, and one of only 4 grounds
in the UK to use it for its playing surface.

They finished 9th in their first season in Division Three but were nonetheless promoted to Division
Two. After several mid table finishes in Division Two, a 4th place finish in the 2000-01 season again
saw them promoted, this time up to Division One.
The Reserve side was also going strong. In the 1999-00 season they won the Birmingham Works Pre-
mier League as well as winning the West Bromwich Albion Shield and Prudential Cup. On the back of
this success they joined the Midland Combination Division Three where they also gained promotion
to Division Two in their first season.

After a few years of gradual improvement in Division One, and a Runners Up appearance in the JW
Hunt Cup Final, the first team finished the 2004-05 season in 2nd place and secured yet another
promotion to the Premier Division.
Unfortunately, this brought problems for the club as the Recreation Ground didn’t have the flood-
lights that were a prerequisite of obtaining promotion to the Premier Division. They were forced to
ground share with Pilkington XXX, while plans to erect floodlights at their own ground were drawn
up.

Life in the Premier Division proved very difficult to start with but, as in previous years, gradual im-
provements have been made year after year.
In the 2006-07 season they entered the FA Vase for the first time where they beat AFC Wulfrunians
on their debut. A year later they made their debut in the FA Cup but lost in a replay to Alvechurch.

Another switch in grounds took place during the close season as they moved from Pilkington to
Alvechurch.

The most recent achievements have seen Cadbury Athletic First Team win the Midland Football Com-
bination title (2013-2014) and FA County Saturday Vase in the same season.

As well as the two open age sides, Cadbury Athletic also run a thriving Junior Section with twelve
sides in the Central Warwickshire League and since 2011 have an Over 35’s side that play in the
Central Warwickshire League over 35 league with home games being played at Cadbury Recreation

Ground in Bournville Lane on a Sunday morning.

CLUB NEWS

The Youth team kicked off their league campaign with a home
defeat to a strong Bedworth United. After a 100% win record
in pre-season they put on a solid display with many missing on
the night and the side will be stronger once the holiday season is
over. The team face Coventry Sphinx away on Thursday.
The academy team looks very strong this year and pre-season is
going well as they gear up for the National U19 league and the
college leagues.
The new football pitch-side clubhouse is due to open ready for
our next home game and we are just putting up the football
pennants and memorabilia.
Our training surface is still on course and the grass layer is ready
to be installed next week. Exciting times!
