The Ramblers are playing Hull University at home, the Women’s 1stXV are also at home against the University Ladies and there is a Curtain Raiser between Hull Ionians U13s and Billingham U13s.As you can imagine the allocation of changing rooms has been a logistic nightmare but we are delighted to be the Premier Community Rugby Club in East Yorkshire providing an enjoyable Rugby Experience at Brantingham Park for all regardless of Age, Gender or Ability.Since February the 1stXV have sustained a raft of serious injuries. Rossendale fi ght for survival provides the winRossendale’s work rate and determination plus the accurate goal kicking of Finlay Rogers saw them to a valuable 5 point victory as they fi ght to avoid relegation.A penalty count of 13 by Rossendale to 5 by Hull Ionians could have cost the visitors, three of their penalties led to driven over tries.Hull Ionians worked hard throughout the match and matched them in tries, 5 each, but with their long injury list extended by loosing both Greg Minikin and James Watts to injury in the fi rst half did not help.Josh Thundercliff e led the team out in his 100th game for the team and they made a good start.A penalty line-out saw Hull Ionians strike fi rst, Adam Brankley driven over in the corner but with constant kicking for territory Rossendale spent 10 minutes within 5 metres without breaking the Hull Ionians disciplined defence. Then having cleared the line and pushed Dale into their own half a missed tackle saw Owen Boxall race 40 metres to the posts, Rogers converting as he did all day.Another deep kick earned a Rossendale penalty 5 metres out and moving it wide saw Terence Bararinsa cross. The half closed with a string of penalties by Dale for Hull Ionians excellent line-out work to set up the drive for Adam Brankley to peel off and score, Ben Smith converting to trail 12-14 at the break.Dale increased their lead after the break when Dale man of the match Brenen Berry surprised himself when he ripped the ball out after a deep kick chase to go under the posts. With Dale down to 14 men after a yellow card Hull Ionians struck back twice. A solo run then kick ahead into open space saw Cameron Burnhill score then from the restart Sam Pocklington intercepted and ran 70 metres to the posts, Ben Smith converting this one to retake the lead 24-21Back to 15 men Dale retook the lead with Maciu Nabogi driving over after a series of close range drives had been initially held.Six Minutes later Hull Ionians were back in front again when a penalty line-out catch and drive saw Ben Stephenson reply. In the last 10 of an entertaining game Dale took the match with Lukas Sableman-Blue racing to the corner after the forwards were held and they made it safe with a Rogers penalty in the fi nal play.Hull Ionians RUFC v RossendaleHULL IONIANS 29 - 38 ROSSENDALE RUFCHULL IONIANS WORKEDHARD THROUGHOUT

hull ionians women 30 - 5 newark ladiesHull Ionians 1st WXVThe women’s most recent fi xture saw them host Newark Ladies at Brantingham Park, their fi rst meeting this season due to a mid-season postponement. Poor weather conditions got both teams off to a slow start with handling errors, followed by a fracas on the wing that saw a player from each side in the sin bin. Around 15 minutes in, Ionians Women got into their game and scored a couple of clinical tries out wide. Some excellent try line defence saw a try scoring opportunity from Newark come to nothing, with Ionians Women keeping their opposition at nil into half time. The game continued to be well contested into the second half with more tries from Amy Knott and Hannah Foster-Rain. Newark continued putting in some heavy carries, but it would eventually be their fullback who broke the line to put their fi ve points onto the board, with another try scoring eff ort from Newark held up over the line. The 25-point diff erence was much needed for the women following their defeat away in Kesteven which saw them slip down the league table. The women are playing their fi nal league game of the season away in Newark on 19.04.26.

Their work gives hope not just to me, but to millions of people in the UK who are blind or visually impaired, and to future generations who may otherwise face the same challenges. Sight loss can happen to anyone, at any time. By supporting Fight for Sight, we are investing in better treatments, earlier diagnosis, and a future where fewer people have to live with avoidable vision loss. London Marathon is on 26th April 2026 (tomorrow)Bit of a blooper on the Otley RUFC socials this week, where they mistakenly refered to Hull Ionians RUFC as Hull RUFC. A few stalwarts corrected them in their mistaken identity though, so all good in the end. Any names you recognise from the 1986/7 season...Armthorpe Road, Doncaster DN2 5QByorkshire shield
