Dear Hunting Creek Members:

I want to convey how very excited I am to be part of the Hunting Creek
Country Club family and express my appreciation towards the Membership
in being so welcoming. Also, I want to express my gratitude for your pa-
tience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain and challeng-
ing times. There are Members that I have not yet had the pleasure to meet
but look forward to that opportunity very soon.
It is a remarkable and exciting time for Hunting Creek with the new club-
house close to opening. I look forward to communicating our opening
plans with you very soon. I truly believe that the improvements to the
clubhouse, coupled with new dining options and a renewed focus on the
member experience, will render Hunting Creek “the place to be in Lou-
isville” and present an unparalleled value! My mantra, and that of the
team, will be “exceeding expectations with signature service”. Our com-
mitment to the Members is more paramount now than ever before.
We are positioning ourselves for a bright and triumphant future, how-
ever, this success is predicated on Member satisfaction, which correlates
in Member usage. There has never been a more important time to grow
Membership and solidify our foundation. Today’s initiation fees are beyond
reasonable. Please feel free to share the new direction and incredible
membership opportunity with friends and family.

Membership Update

HCCC’s membership has experienced quite the transition over the last
year, and we are so appreciative of all of our members’ dedication to the
Club during the renovation. It took some time, but look at what we have
now! The Club has a beautiful new clubhouse that wouldn’t have been
possible without each and every one of our members! We love our new
clubhouse and we are pleased to report that HCCC is now experienc-
ing wonderful membership growth – with 12 new members joining in June
alone!

We are excited about the recent growth in membership and we were final-
ly able to welcome our new members to the Club for the first open house
event in 2020. We have had 24 new members join since the beginning of
the year and we were pleased that 14 could come to the open house last
Sunday. Please join us in welcoming our new members:

We have a strong membership at HCCC that continues to grow. We enjoy
seeing everyone on the patio, the course, the courts, and the pool, and we
all look forward to the Club being open for full-service.

Until we are able to open up fully, if you see someone on the patio that
you don’t recognize, please feel free to introduce yourself and get to know
each other. We want our new members to feel welcome and we want our
existing members to get to know everyone.

Please encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to come visit HCCC
and consider joining our Club. If you have questions or want to refer a po-
tential member, please contact a board member, membership committee

Happy July Hunting Creek,
We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your overwhelming
participation with our Carryout service, in addition to our Patio and Patio
Bar service. We hope that you all have enjoyed your food and libations
as much as we have enjoyed servicing you. Our team is excited to get to
offer in house dining very soon and hope to see you all at your club. We
will be on a reservation only basis for the Partridge Lounge when we be-
gin to take on this service addition. We will still offer carryout for anyone
that wishes, along with Patio service. We would like to encourage you all
to take advantage of your club.
In addition to our daily food and beverage operations, we will be encour-
aging in house events. So, please give me a call for all of your catering/
event needs. Now is a great time to get booked for those Holiday parties
in December as dates are filling quickly!

Red Snapper with Herbs

Pat the Snapper dry with a paper towel on
both sides this will help prevent it from stick-
ing to the pan. Heat the olive oil in a skillet till
it just begins to smoke and immediately add
the fish, skin side down, and cook 3-4 minutes,
then carefully turn over and cook for 1 minute
more. Remove from the skillet with a slotted
spatula and keep warm. Add white wine with
shallots then stir in the lemon juice and bring
to a simmering point until wine is reduced by
over half. Stir in the cream and cook until
thickened. Add a tablespoon of cold but-
ter and stir until melted. Season with salt and
pepper and stir in the herbs. Place the fish
on a warm serving dish, spoon the hot sauce
over them. I recommend serving with grilled
asparagus and Mushroom risotto.

Back this year is Ladies Golf 101! Every Thursday throughout the year
ladies meet at the golf shop at 5:45 PM before we head to the 1st tee
at 6:00 PM. This drop-in style program is for beginners. The format each
night is a scramble and the golf professional staff will be on course
to help. We play each Thursday for 1 hour 9usually just 2-3 holes) on
course and then head back to the clubhouse. This is a great way to
get in the game, meet others interested, and get a little professional

Hunting Creek PGA Jr team and this year we are expecting to have 2
teams! Both teams will practice together. Each team this year will par-
ticipate in matches on the same days at the same location. The two

are unaware of the format for PGA Jr League, our team members will

the other teams in our division (when established). I know that summer

per person will include lunch, a tee gift, and prizes. If you would like to bring
guests for the day, the guest fee will be 50% off! The format for the day will

The annual battle of the sexes known as the Colts vs. Fillies is on for Sunday,
July 19. The event is played in tee times beginning at 1:00 PM. Many think
this is a couples event, however it is NOT! While many couples play in the
event, sign up is as an individual. The format is a Ryder Cup mix of events.
There is a $20 per person entry fee and it includes hors d’oeuvres after play.
All players will be sorted by handicap and similar handicaps will play as
partners against a similar handicap pair from the other team. We will draw
pairings on the Friday night before the event. It’s great fun and the winning
team will get all the bragging rights for the year. As well as their team being
engraved on the Equestrian Trophy that will reside in the Partridge Lounge!

on Saturday (Championship & Consolation Divisions). Those not interested
in playing in the Championship Flight or those that don’t qualify for match

President’s Cup

The President’s Cup qualifying has finished and we’re happy to share
the brackets for match play. We had 154 men attempt to qualify which
produced over 400 scores...that is nothing short of amazing participa-
tion! There are 32 players in the field. Which means to win it all players
must play 5 matches. We must keep this event on schedule so there are
deadlines for each match. Rounds MUST be completed on or before the
due date (no extensions will be allowed). If a match is not finished in time,
the Golf Shop Staff will flip a coin to produce a winner. The lower seeded
player has the responsibility to reach out and schedule the match. Play
will be Individual Match Play Net off of the low handicap and the Golf
Shop will prepare scorecards the day of the match.

President’s Cup Bracket

Match 1 Deadline - July 5

Match 2 Deadline - July 26

Match 3 Deadline - August 16

Match 4 Deadline - September 7

Match 5 Deadline - September 27

Old Buddy

The Old Buddy sign up has closed and we have 45 teams moving into
match play. Like the President’s Cup this bracket has to stay on sched-
ule. In order to do so, we have the first 2 matches scheduled ON specific
Saturday’s. Players have the option of playing before the deadline, but if
not completed early then Round 1 & 2 will be schedule by the Golf Shop
on the morning of July 18. Beyond Round 2, players will need to schedule
their own tee time and finish their match on or before the deadline other-
wise a coin flip by the Golf Shop Staff will be the result (no extensions will
be given). The format is 1 Best Ball Net of the 2 playing match play, again
playing off of the low handicap in the group.

A Message from Steve

Thanks to all the members for the great participation in the clinics
and being diligent about COVID-19 protocols. All clinics are a go.
The Men’s B Team has started match play and it almost feels normal
again. The Davis Cup has been rescheduled for a date to be
determined in July. All Sports Camps are also a go! This is a great way
to get our juniors into both lifetime sports of golf and tennis. We are
looking forward to getting close to normal and playing tennis in this
perfect weather.
See you on the courts,

Hunting Creek Country Club
Pickleball is serving up fun!

We’ve all heard “there is no crying in baseball,” and we can assure
you that there is no crying in Pickleball at HCCC…because we are
too busy laughing!
Last year, we had great success with our Beginner Pickleball Clinics
and this year we have even more interest. Steve held one Beginner
Clinic so far and we expect additional clinics to be scheduled and
communicated in the near future! Steve will provide more informa-
tion on timing and focus of upcoming clinics.
What is pickleball, you ask? Pickleball is a cross between tennis, bad-
minton and ping-pong. It is played on a badminton-sized court with
a modified net, so there is not as much running as tennis. Participants
play with paddles that are twice as big as ping pong paddles, and
the game is played with perforated plastic balls, similar to a wiffle ball
with holes. Pickleball can be played with doubles or singles and is
often played to 7 or 11 points each game. The hardest thing about
pickleball is just trying to keep score!
The best thing about HCCC pickleball is that it is fun! We have players
at all skill-levels and welcome anyone interested. These are friendly
games and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We rotate players in
and out depending on the number of participants that we have and
we have a lot of fun doing it. If you want to reserve the court for play,
please know that we are working on setting up the capability to re-
serve the court online, however, in the meantime, you may reach out
to Steve Filben directly to reserve the court – just tell him your name
and day and time you want to use the court. If you have additional
questions, please reach out to Lisa Harris at 321-514-1100

TROON SELECTED TO MANAGE-THE VIRGINIAN IN BRISTOL, VIRGINIA

Troon®, the leader in club management, development, and marketing, is
pleased to announce it has been selected to manage The Virginian and its sis-
ter property, Nicewonder Farm & Vineyards, both of which are located in Bristol,
Virginia. Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, will oversee golf,
club and food & beverage operations as well golf course agronomy and mem-
bership marketing.
Set in the Highlands of Virginia, between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Moun-
tains, the clubhouse and golf course are the centerpieces of The Virginian luxury
community. The Tom Fazio-designed golf course opened in 1992 and is ranked as
one the state’s top golf courses by both Golf Digest and Golfweek. Fazio made
great use of the area’s pastoral setting and distant views in designing the 7,025
yard course. As an added feature, the practice facility is complete with a prac-
tice range, short game/bunker areas, massive practice green, and three prac-
tice holes.
“The Virginian and Nicewonder Farm & Vineyards are absolutely gorgeous prop-
erties,” said Matt Hurley, president of Troon’s Honours Golf division and operations
lead. “We are honored to be associated with such a wonderful development
and community. Our team is looking forward to working with the Nicewonder
Group to help enhance these already unique properties, and with the members
of The Virginian as we bring added value to their membership through programs
exclusive to Troon Privé club members.”
“The Virginian and Nicewonder Farm & Vineyards are undergoing a period of
unprecedented expansion and growth,” said Kevin Nicewonder, Managing
Member of the Nicewonder Group. “We are excited to partner with Troon Privé
to bring their expertise and guidance to us, so that together, we can provide an
incredible experience for members and guests. This is a perfect partnership of
two of the most respected brands in the industry.”
The Virginian’s 44,000 square-foot clubhouse features a main dining room with a
dry-stacked fieldstone fireplace at its center, a cathedral ceiling and a newly-
built 750 bottle capacity walk-in wine cellar with tasting area. Dinners are served
in the formal Main Dining Room twice a week, while the new Twenty-two Bar &
Grille is the epicenter of social gatherings as it features a circular bar and is avail-
able for members to enjoy days and evenings.

Dining is also available inside and outside on the verandas. The clubhouse also
features an award-winning golf shop, a spectacular boardroom overlooking the
back nine, and spacious men’s and ladies’ locker rooms. A stone’s throw from the
clubhouse is “The Round”, an open-air pavilion utilized for events and concerts.
The club’s Swim, Racquet & Fitness Center is complete with a Junior Olympic-size
and a children’s pool, and four tennis courts (two clay and two hard surface),
and features one of the top junior instruction programs in the region and a grow-
ing pickleball following. Its fitness center boasts the latest Nautilus and cardiovas-
cular equipment, and an outside playground for kids to enjoy.
Adjacent to The Virginian is its 450 acre sister property, Nicewonder Farm & Vine-
yards which was founded in 2013. There you will find the 10-acre, award-winning
Nicewonder Vineyards; a winery; a farmers market; livestock; and Taste, Wood-
Fire Kitchen, an open-air restaurant that is open to the public and has some of the
most spectacular views overlooking the vineyard and rolling hills of the farm.
Construction is currently underway on four luxury yurts which will provide stay and
play accommodations for national members as well as members of Troon Privé
managed clubs through the Troon Privé Privileges program. The yurts are expect-
ed to be completed this fall. The yurts are a prelude to what will become the cen-
terpiece of the property, a 28-room luxury boutique inn with a presidential suite,
infinity pool, a 300-person banquet facility and Hickory, the signature restaurant
from acclaimed Chef Travis Milton. Construction is underway, with a projected
opening in mid-2021. Soon to follow the Inn’s opening will be a spa, fitness center
and a commissary kitchen, making Nicewonder Farm & Vineyards and The Virgin-
ian a unique destination for those seeking the best in lifestyle and golf amenities.
About The Virginian Community
The Virginian has been rated as the third best private golf community in America
by the Robb Report magazine, has been honored by Pinnacle Living/Mountain
Homes magazine as the “Most Beautiful Planned Community” for 2006, called
“one of America’s Premier Properties” by Links magazine and “one of the 50 Best
Places to Live in America” by GOLF Magazine. The Virginian offers a range of cus-
tom homes, cottages, and home sites. Homes are carefully sited to preserve the
character of the land and to maintain the natural landscape and panoramic golf
course views.

Letter from JustFit

Hello Members of Hunting Creek,

My name is Justine Thomas, and I am the owner of JustFit Louisville, LLC. I am
very excited to return to Hunting Creek Country Club for our fifth year of provid-
ing fitness services to the club. The new fitness center looks amazing! Please
be sure to practice social distancing and use the sanitizing wipes provided to
clean any equipment used during your time in the space. The gym is limited to
ten people at the moment and members will need to bring their own exercise
mats, towels and water.
For golfers experiencing any limitations or discomfort in their swing, or just want-
ing to take their game to the next level, I will be available for TPI Golf Fitness
Screens to assess mobility/stability patterns and provide customized programs
to improve flexibility, strength, power and speed. I work with golfers of all ages
including junior, collegiate, adult and senior levels.
I have a wonderful and experienced team of fitness professionals. These highly
qualified trainers will be available for one on one personal training, small group
personal training, and wellness coaching. We also offer a first-time complimen-
tary fitness assessment to those that are interested in signing up for our services.
What you can expect from this meeting is a 30-minute assessment of your cur-
rent fitness level, review of medical history and discussion of overall wellness
goals. Based upon our initial assessment, we will place you with the trainer that
will best accomplish your goals, needs, and level of fitness.
We would love to offer Yoga again to members. Please look for additional infor-
mation coming soon including days/times of classes and pricing. Email justfitlou-
[email protected] if you are interested in a yoga or fitness class, or private per-
sonal training session. You may find additional information on pricing, trainers,

It’s a myth that you have to be flexible to do yoga. We want every-
one to feel welcome. This class will improve mind, body and spirit
through breathing and alignment, with a focus on strength. If you
have any structural limitations, modifications will be taught so that you
may still benefit from this practice. Participants will need to bring their
own mats, towels and water. Also, you are welcome to bring blocks or
straps but, will not be necessary for this class. We look forward to see-
