The Class of 2016 heads off on their next adVENTURE!
This past spring, we said goodbye to another graduating Foley class and sent them on to
their next journey! Here at the school, we had many special celebrations to wish our seniors
well as they headed off to their future. For the first time ever, Senior Week was celebrated
during the senior’s last week of school. The senior class got to enjoy special activities such as
Cookies in the Courtyard, where they took pictures in a photo booth rented for their class for
the day; and a pancake breakfast made by Father Gerry and his crew. The Class of 2016 also
participated in Senior Signing Day where they each “committed” to their college by signing a
letter of declaration to let the rest of the BFC community know where they would continue on
their next adventure. Finally, the school community got together for a “Senior Clap Out.” The
senior class donned their caps and gowns and walked throughout the hallways while teachers,
staff members, and underclassmen
celebrated the Class of 2016.
Mr. John Keating Graduation was also a special event for
our Class of 2016 as an extraordinary speaker joined us to deliver
the commencement address. Mr. John Keating (‘75), Foley
alumni and Fox Sports Detroit newscaster, gave his best wishes
to the Class of 2016 as he taught them what it means to use their
Catholic education throughout their life. He also reminded the
class to thank their families and loved ones who sacrifice much to
provide them with a Catholic education. Congratulations Class of
2016 – on to your next adVENTURE!

A New Beginning for Venture Park
Thanks in part to generous donations Bishop Foley Catholic
received this past summer, we were able to create a brand
new entranceway to Venture Park, our state of the art athletic
complex. The beautiful new gated entrance was debuted at
Homecoming and the BFC Community gathered for a
dedication and blessing service for the entranceway in
October. The new entranceway was dedicated in
memory of Debbie (Wardowski) Redding (‘79),
a Foley alumna and dedicated BFC parent who
passed away in April. Debbie helped to spearhead
the process of getting a turf field for our athletic
complex. Thank you to all our supporters who
made this stunning Venture Park entrance a
reality!
Something New in the Hallways of BFC
For many alumni that come back to Bishop Foley Catholic, they often reminisce
about the student lockers that line the hallways. Nearly every alumnus can
remember their skinny, blue-green locker that they used during their time at
Foley. This summer, all our lockers got a face lift! The lockers that line our hallways
have now been painted black. In addition to the school lockers, our locker rooms
lockers were also painted the same black color. A big thank you to Joe Krause and
Tim Maskill, along with members of the Dads’ Club, who worked tirelessly on the
locker room renovations. Our school has never looked better!
Welcome to the Foley Family!
We would like to welcome four new staff members to the Bishop Foley Catholic family this school year!
Emma Frager (’04) is an alumna and came back to Foley this summer as our 11th & 12 grade counselor. She is already
making great strides in our counseling department by hosting several colleges for on-campus visits and direct admission
interviews. Many of our students have received early acceptance to schools and have already qualified for major
scholarships! We are excited to have her back here!
New this year at Bishop Foley Catholic is the option to take American Sign Language to fulfill a student’s language credit
requirement. Chelsea Cleghorn is our American Sign Language teacher, as well as our Learning Specialist. Students are
really enjoying the new language option!
Anne de la Vega joined our BFC family as a new Spanish teacher. Her knowledge and love of travel is making her a perfect
fit in our Foreign Language Department!
Last but certainly not least, Joe Marino is our new Music teacher and also Band and
Choir Club Moderator. He has been working hard with his students on creating beautiful
music for our Masses and preparing for our Christmas concert on December 6 here at
BFC!
We also send our best wishes to Mr. Dan Jasina (‘79) who has been our Maintenance
man for the last thirty-seven years here at Bishop Foley Catholic! He retired last spring
and we wish him luck on his next journey. Mrs. Sue Chabot, longtime BFC 11th and 12th
Grade Counselor, also retired! We wish her the best on her next endeavors as well.

Admissions Adventures
Hello Foley Family! Katie Crombe, BFC Admissions Director here! Fall is a busy time in the
Admissions Department, filled with on-site events, parish visits, information fairs, shadow dates,
family tours, applications, and High School Placement Tests.
The biggest event of the season so far was our BFC Open House. With record-setting numbers
and a steady stream of prospective families, this was one of the best years yet! Thanks to the
amazing support of the Foley Family, we had over 200 staff members, coaches, alumni, parents,
and students volunteering at the event. It was a true testament to the lifelong community that is
Bishop Foley Catholic High School, and made me proud to be an alum and staff member.
We also hosted CYO Night in October. We invited any middle school student involved in a CYO
sport to join us for a Varsity Girls Volleyball game. It was an awesome turnout and an even better
game as our Ventures won! All the students that attended enjoyed being in the student section
and cheering our team on to a victory!
We have also traveled off campus for a variety of parish visits over the last few months! Our Admissions team has been
visiting local Catholic communities to share information about BFC and the importance of Catholic Education. We will
continue to visit churches throughout the school year - stop by if you see us at your parish before or after Mass!
As we near the end of the semester, we will be focusing on new student applications, and a great deal have already started
arriving! We’ve acquired a new software program for managing prospective students throughout the application process
that allows them to complete their application, teacher recommendation form, and more - all online! Our goal is to
eventually shift to being completely paperless, similar to the college admissions process.
I have met many of our Future Ventures, and I can assure you that the Class of 2021 will be one of the best classes yet!
They are diverse, kind, athletic, intelligent, creative, and inclusive. A perfect blend of everything we cherish in the Foley
Family! While I work to assemble my second BFC Class as Admissions Director, I promise to continue to build upon our
remarkable Catholic educational community.
Thank you and have a blessed holiday!

Let Your Heart Be Your Guide
Dear Bishop Foley Catholic Alumni, Families, Friends, and Supporters,
During the months of October & November, we kick off our Annual Fund Drive. Over the past several
years we have seen growth in our Annual Fund. This does my heart good! Several years ago, I
followed my heart to Bishop Foley Catholic and Foley was and is worth it!! This year our annual
fund drive asks you to let your heart guide you. You have the opportunity to guide your donation
according to your passion. So…What is your passion?
Scholarships
Each year when we accept the many wonderful students and families wanting to attend Foley we are uplifted by their
excitement and passion to attend this Catholic school. For some, they are completely aware of the expenses they will
incur for this adventure. For others, it is the desire to provide their child with potentially the only path that will give them a
future filled with hope. It is humbling to know the great sacrifice many of our families make in order to send their child to
BFC. Of our over 350 students, 58% of our student receive financial support by either scholarships or grants. A gift to the
scholarship initiatives provides much needed financial support to need-based and merit-based scholarships to Bishop
Foley Catholic.
Facilities
We currently reside in a beautiful building that is beginning to show its 50 plus years. We have recently replaced the boilers
and entrance doors. This summer we painted the lockers and the hallways, as well as gave our locker rooms a much needed
face lift. Yet we have many maintenance projects that have been deferred, such as roofing, flooring, bathroom renovations
and window replacement. It is time to protect this school and make everyone proud to walk through the doors and down
the halls.
Academic and Technological Initiatives
Students at Bishop Foley Catholic make it cool to be smart. In partnership with our teachers, students create an
atmosphere that embraces knowledge, critical thinking, and intellectual growth. A gift to this initiative supports our
community’s strong commitment to academics by helping to fund academic programs, technology enhancements,
instructional resources, and professional development.
Give Where Bishop Foley Catholic Needs Most
While you are welcome to direct your gift to one of the initiatives, Bishop Foley Catholic’s needs change throughout the
year. Therefore, unrestricted gifts give the school the flexibility to address needs as they arise and are among the most
impactful the school receives. Bishop Foley Catholic is not a school that is supported by a parish. We also do not have an
order that can tap into the many supporters nationwide to solicit support. Bishop Foley Catholic stands on its own!
What tugs on your heart string and pulled you here? My most prized possessions are my children. This school has helped
thousands of children just like mine become, teachers, doctors, dentist, engineers, lawyers, artists, nurses …
By using your heart as a guide, please help the students of Bishop Foley Catholic High School build their future filled with
hope. We need you all, your talents, wisdom, story and financial support. It is up to us to keep Catholic Education alive. To
donate, please visit our website – www.bishopfoley.org and click on Support Us, or use the envelope attached to the center
fold of this magazine.
With a Grateful Heart,

50TH ANNIVERSARY
A Night of Glitz and Glam – BFC’s Golden Gala
On March 5, 2016, several members of the Foley Family put on their best dresses and tuxes and came together
to celebrate at our Golden Gala, held at the Detroit Athletic Club! Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres drinks,
dinner, and dessert while enjoying the company of other friends and families of Foley. Following a speech given
by Father Gerry discussing all our school has accomplished over the last fifty year and all we hope for the future,
a band played and guests danced the night away. It was a lovely evening and certainly one to remember for
many years to come. We already look forward to what celebrations might occur for our 75th Anniversary!

50TH ANNIVERSARY
A Weekend at Mackinac Island
The 2015-2016 school year was our 50th school year and to celebrate, Bishop
Foley Catholic planned many fun activities for families to enjoy! One of these
planned activities was a trip to Mackinac Island! On May 12-15, alumni, staff
members, families, and friends made the trek north from Metro-Detroit over the
bridge to attend a weekend of fun. The whole Foley group stayed at the Grand
Hotel and got to enjoy delicious meals, fellowship, and events throughout the
weekend. Many groups chose to explore the island by way of bike, horse, or
foot. On Saturday evening, everyone was invited to a Mass said by Father Gerry,
followed by a dinner celebrating 50 years of Bishop Foley Catholic! Even though
the weather was a little unpredictable with snow falling on the way home (it is
Michigan after all!), all that attended the weekend had a wonderful time catching
up with alumni and fellow families and enjoying the beauty of Mackinac Island!
The Return of Foley Fest
Many alumni and past Foley families and staff members remember the annual Foley Fest that BFC used to host every
year. In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Bishop Foley Catholic, administration decided to bring Foley Fest back this past
year! On June 17-19, current and past families, staff members, students, alumni, and friends of Foley came back to campus
to enjoy the new Foley Fest! Carnival games and rides filled the student parking lot, while entertainment and the beer tent
occupied the area near our athletic complex. A kid’s tent was also set up on the front lawn of the school, giving even our
youngest Ventures a place to enjoy during the festival. Everyone that came had a great time reminiscing with old and new
friends and seeing what was new at BFC! A big thanks to all the faculty and staff members and volunteers that made this
weekend a success!

ALUMNI & COMMUNITY EVENTS
Homecoming: A BFC Tradition
Once again, our BFC Homecoming was well attended by many alumni and friends that came back to their alma matter to
reminisce and see what has changed! With the event taking place in September, that meant beautiful weather for the event,
as guests began the night in the new Foley Fan Cave, where food and drink were served to alumni. Wrestling coach Berney
Gonzales and Eric Swanson (‘98) played music outside, while guests mingled with one another before the game. Once
the game started alumni were invited to watch the game from the Alumni VIP Tent where donuts and cider were served.
At halftime, members of our football team from 2006 were recognized on the field
for their ten year reunion. Although the outcome of the game wasn’t exactly what
we were hoping for, our Ventures played a tough game against rival Shrine. It was
wonderful seeing so many familiar
faces back on campus and we hope
to see you again for next year’s
Homecoming!
Another Successful BFC Alumni & Friends Golf Outing
This past August we held our 11th Annual Foley Alumni & Friends Golf Outing! It was a beautiful day for golf as a record
number of golfers showed up to see who would be crowned the champions
of the day. We also held a contest for the foursome with the best costume
and our golfers did not disappoint! From matching patriotic outfits to crazy
golf pants to t-shirts covered in mock magazine covers featuring our golf
chair Jim Krygier (‘82), our foursomes went above and beyond. A big thank
you to all our supporters, especially Jim Krygier for putting the
wonderful event together. We look forward to seeing you all next
August!

ALUMNI & COMMUNITY EVENTS
Introducing the New Bishop Foley Catholic Alumni Board
This past year, in an effort to get more alumni involvement at BFC, we decided to bring back the Bishop Foley Alumni
Board. The new group, made up of 13 passionate BFC alums and led by Alumni Coordinator Michele Colosi (‘99), began
meeting in the summer of 2016 and has already contributed many ideas and projects. Our Alumni Board was a big part
of Homecoming as members helped assist in the VIP tent at the game and in the Fan Cave before the game. The main
purpose of the Bishop Foley Catholic High School Alumni Board is
to promote alumni support and involvement. The board members
are involved in several events at Bishop Foley Catholic throughout
the year. Applications for new board members will be accepted in
May 2017.
Stay tuned to the Alumni Facebook page “Bishop Foley Catholic
Alumni Connection”, and our website bishopfoley.org for more
information on this and any upcoming alumni games or events. If
you have questions or would like to be added to the alumni quarterly
e-newsletter list, please email colosi@bishopfoley.org or call the
Advancement Department at 248-658-2049.
The Heart of Foley Award
Each year the Bishop Foley Catholic Administration seeks nominations for our “Heart of Foley Award.” This award is
given to an individual or couple that embodies our mission and goes that extra mile to make Bishop Foley Catholic a
wonderful place to learn, work and connect with family and friends. This award helps us to honor individuals that make
an impact on our school in a big way. We have so many deserving people for this award, and this year it was given to
three individuals that believe in Foley and show this in their actions and service. If you wish to nominate someone for
the Heart of Foley Award, please email our principal, Mrs. Hubbell, at hubbell@bishopfoley.org. Nominations are now
being accepted for the 2017 award.
Dr. Richard and Debra Wille
Rich and Debbi Wille always have the goal of making Foley better. They became
active parents starting in 2006 when their first child attended as a freshman.
They have given time, attention, and funding to Football, Baseball, Lacrosse,
Hockey, Wrestling, the Weight Room, Robotics, Field of Dreams, Executive
Board, Medical Science Club, Dad’s Club, the Athletic Commission, and the
Facilities & Ground Commission. Over the years they have graduated three
children from Bishop Foley Catholic and currently have a senior student. Rich
helped restart the Dad’s Club and started the ever popular Medical Science Club.
Volunteering is what they do. For the betterment of BFC is why they do it. The
Wille’s are generous with their time, their knowledge, and their support of our
wonderful school.
Jim Krygier, Class of 1982
Jim Krygier is a true example of what it means to give back to others and his alma
mater. Jim is our Ultimate Foley Ambassador- sharing the word, staying in touch, and
being involved. He is the person who walks the BFC walk. In every aspect of his life, he is
supporting Bishop Foley Catholic. You will often see events that he has created, such as
impromptu gathering for Foley friends, where all are made to feel welcome. Jim serves
on the Development Council and also helped to resurrect the Dad’s Club by taking a
leadership position on the board. The ultimate compliment is the fact that Jim and his
wife, Lori, sent their two daughters to Bishop Foley Catholic: Kaitlyn ’14 and McKayla ’16.
Jim also chairs the BFC Golf Outing and is already planning the event for August of 2017.
Jim took the Golf outing from a small event to having to cut off registration because of big
numbers.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
We here at Bishop Foley Catholic High School know how important and successful our alumni are, but now we want to
share it with the world. Beginning in July, the BFC Alumni Association has chosen one extraordinary alumni every month
and has shared their story on the Alumni Facebook page (Bishop Foley Catholic Alumni Connection) and on our website.
Here are the four alumni we have featured so far. We invite all of you to also recommend alumni to us for our Alumni

This summer was a busy one for BFC Reunions! The Classes of 1976, 1981, 1986, 1996, and 2006 all celebrated reunions
over the last few months and we were thrilled to see how many Foley classmates have kept up their friendships! All five
classes had a fantastic time reconnecting with friend’s new and old. A special thank you goes out to all the class liaisons that
helped make these reunions a success!
If you are celebrating a reunion this year and want help on where to start the reunion planning process, contact Michele
