Investment

RECOMMENDS

As you may know, all the learning programs and resources on Shangri-La Academy are
designed by the Shangri-La Academy team.
We recently researched what would be the cost of designing the courses if we were to use
an external vendor. The research conducted included journals, white papers and benchmark
data.
One of the most crucial variable in deciding the price is the level of interactivity in a course.
There are majorly three levels of interactivity in an online course. We summarised these
levels for you in the table below and highlighted the estimated cost of developing one hour
of learning for each level. This information is critical as it helps us understand the direct
value the Shangri-La Academy Courses add to our business. Most organisations still need
to use external vendors as they don’t have teams who have the technical skills to design for
Online environments.

We are glad to share that most of the courses we release on Shangri-La Academy Online are
classified level 3 and some would be level 4. We will continue to work and design courses
incorporating new levels of interaction to keep engaging our colleagues.

A critical initiative at the Shangri-La Group is to redefine effective leadership to meet the
challenges and to develop Business Leaders that can thrive in the context of economic
volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (the VUCA world).

The Business Leaders Programme has been developed with the purpose to grow Business
Leaders at Shangri-La by facilitating the right learning interventions to build commercial,
operational and leadership capabilities.

The Business Leaders Programme BLP is for existing Resident Managers and we recently
launched the nomination process globally. Nominations will be open until March 31st 2021
and during the month of April Nominees will be participating in a series of assessments
tasks to help us understand their strengths.

Junior Leaders Programme

The Junior Leaders Programme (JLP) was transferred to the regional L&D leads and hotels Learning
and Development Managers in 2020 for roll out.

The program focuses on Experiential Learning Activities that first time supervisors, junior
supervisors or front-line colleagues who may take a supervisory position in the future can go
through in order to develop their supervisory skills.

JLP is organised in six modules following our Shangri-La Leadership Competencies. Each module
contains a 40 - 50 minutes Online learning, a Learning Journal indicating all the experiential
activities that the learner will need to complete for each module and a brief 90 minutes classroom
session that is facilitated by the L&D Manager or a member of the HR team on property.

We recommend that the maximum number of participants per hotel in one batch of the JLP
should be 15.

The L&D Managers should organise the implementation of JLP minimum 3 times / batches in 2021
as per the Shangri-La Academy Syllabus.

The Junior Leaders Programme (JLP) is now available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional
Chinese, French, Arabic, Turkish, Bahasa Melayu, Thai, and Sinhalese.

We count on the L&D Managers and HR teams at property to ensure our first time supervisors
benefit from the JLP programme.

It is critical that JLP is implemented exactly as outlined in the guidelines, without changing
activities, or removing components of the programme.

As we continue the JEN evolution of our unique vision of modern Asian
hospitality, a key focus is to invest in enabling our Talents to deliver on our
biggest asset – our World class Service Culture.

With a fresh progressive approach, Live JEN is the reinvented brand service
culture learning programme that replaces Jenology. It gamifies learning through
an entirely new board game that brings together all the knowledge from the JEN
e-learning courses and incorporates realistic case studies to further challenge
our Talents. It is is insightful, engaging, adaptable to different aspects of our
business, and fun! With the support of technology and new thinking, we are also
able to focus the total learning time to an engaging half-day session instead of 4
days of classroom seminars as before.

Live JEN guides the brand’s operations and actions, differentiates us from the
competition, and helps our Talents grow. Anyone can recite the JEN brand
purpose by heart –but far more important, we must LIVE it too.
