June 2023 Issue 6 Volume 1 President Boyet's green thinking deserves a lot of appreciation. Although it is not an original idea but crafted from the UN environmental philosophy, its purpose is its implementation. Gone are those days when the implementation process is easy to conduct. There are lots of factors why some organizations failed to attempt to carry on their plans to fruition. The will to do it is one thing. The other factor is the lack of knowledge in its implementation. That is why when people are told to task in carrying on the plan, they are somewhat reluctant if it could be materialized. Some factors contribute to the failures when implementing a plan for a certain objective. One is when the plan is not supported by proper planning, specific roles were not developed, and organization of tasks and priorities are not followed. A lack of resilience on the part of the leader can lead the project to disaster. This is because scarce resources will not be managed soundly. If it is beyond the reality of what the organization can handle, then the effectiveness of the strategic plan can present a challenge. It is interesting to note that every plan by each organization matters most. Why? It is the organization's pathway that should be followed to ensure that all activities are carried whatever will be the outcome. Failures of any plan are part of the process for the officers to learn from their mistakes and make it better the second time around. There are suggested steps as a guide for the organization to succeed. Step 1. Fit Plans To Your Organization. The leaders should create plans that fit their structure with unique information, and align plans and processes throughout the organization. EPM In the last two years, I found Sir Jose Losa a deserving member of the PSME Board of Trustees before we separated our part as members of the National BOT. Taking the cudgel as VP Luzon and presently the VP PME, this switch is less strenuous to him than the Luzon Region. His being a PME has no shortcomings in handling the PME activities for 2023. As snapshots of his PSME background, Joe Losa was awarded as the Outstanding Chapter President in 2017 and 2018. Twice in a row is not that bad but something to be proud of because it is not easy to manage a chapter if the place is within the reach of Manila. So many awards were given to him, which means that Joe’s accomplishments are worth noting not only in his CV but as lifetime accolades. His being an outstanding chapter president in 2017 catapulted him to be the Chairman of the 6th Luzon Regional Conference in 2019, followed in 2020 and 2021 as Chairman of Calabarzon United Cluster and as Deputy VP for Luzon Calabarzon Region. In 2022, he was the National Vice President for Luzon. Before being a Trustee and National Vice President, Sir Joe Losa did accomplish and awarded one of the 2021 Outstanding Mechanical Engineer (TOME) for Safety, Environmental, and Plant Maintenance Management; Best Chapter in 2017 & 2018. Commitment from the team will become real if the plans are continuously talked about and discussed. There are always leverage notifications, automated reports, and clear alignment to engage the team, drive conversation, and improve outcomes. Conclusion: As we are looking forward to the successful implementation of PSME's strategic plan, we have to consider the three factors such as success criteria, key challenges, and milestones. What do you need to see PSME to be successful in its implementation? What current roadblocks are preventing PSME from achieving its activities? What pathways need to be checked during the implementation of the strategic plans? These and more questions will be tacked by the Board of Trustees in their monthly meeting. PSME's green philosophy provides awareness to all practicing engineers and professionals on how to carry on which could impact the Society's total operations for this year. Although engineers who are following ethical considerations in all areas of engineering activities will not worry if they are practicing by heart. Not all are endowed with good ethical character but most are doing their portion of professionalism as dictated by their God-given conscience. Green technology if done by the latest technical practices will put back the planet in its proper perspective although it will take time to heal its conditions. The recent calamities that we have in our own country let alone in countries where heat and cold seasons affect their livelihoods and other relevant factors that provide social and economic considerations are being felt by the poor and underdeveloped economies. PSME should stand strong in any sustainability issues for their Mother Earth to survive the onslaught carried by the unfriendly seasons and weather conditions that cause havoc to mankind and our planet itself if no solutions are not provided by any living human being on this Earth, our life sustainability will be in limbo. The next question, is when will be our last breath? Only God knows. Sources: achieveit.com; Myra Ricceri, Candice Williams (2023). The Strategy Gap.
