THE LAST HURRAH

Rossford High School

George G. Wolfe Fieldhouse

February 22, 1950 - February 24, 2018

Dear Friends and Alumni:

Good evening and welcome to Joe Stalma Court located in the George G. Wolfe Field
House. We are happy to have you join us for this celebration as we begin to close a facility
that has served our students, staff and the school district community for the past 67 years
since opening its doors in 1951.
As exciting plans continue to move forward for the district’s new facilities, reminiscing
about experiences in our current spaces is a fun and important part of the process, one
that we hope is a part of this evening’s festivities. During many recent conversations, the
expression “If only the walls could talk” comes up, sometimes in a joyful and playful way
and other times, the same words are spoken wistfully, with a tinge of sadness or loss ac-
companying them. We hear funny stories, with people laughing so hard they can hardly
get the words out of their mouth and sometimes somber stories where the emotions are so
strong that tears fill the teller’s eyes as they relive that moment from their past. There are
stories about learning a different activity in physical education, stories about gaining the
courage to ask someone to dance at Homecoming, stories of overcoming teenage angst and
awkwardness while developing into young adults or maybe a parent’s nervousness during
their child’s participation in a close match-up. Many stories are associated with the bliss
of an athletic victory or the sting that accompanies defeat. The thundering of the pep band
and the roar of the crowd behind the spirit of our cheerleading squads are usually a part of
every story. As we have all come to discover, the field house is a place where people have
experienced the full range of emotions, where we have laughed together and cried to-
gether…and everything in between. If only the walls could talk.
The field house holds different and special memories for each of us. Perhaps most impor-
tant, it has served as a place reminding us of the importance of our relationships with each
other, the closeness we share with each other, and how the collective sum of these experi-
ences mesh together over time to form the strength and resolve of this school district. The
power of our unity widely recognized as Bulldog Pride. While the building’s service comes
to a graceful end, we need to be mindful that we are not closing doors; rather we are open-
ing doors to all these fond memories and conversations with one another. These fond mem-
ories, forever embedded in our hearts and minds, remain alive with the impassioned
delivery and shared conversations between us. The memories will carry forward into the
new buildings, where together we will experience many of the same intense emotions and
make new memories for generations to come.
The walls do talk and it is incumbent upon us to continue the conversations, to carry for-
ward our history, our laughter and our tears. On this momentous occasion, the district in-
vites everyone to build on this school district’s rich and proud tradition of excellence
through fellowship as we look to the future and the promise of the new and exciting expe-
riences that lie ahead for all of us.

Go Bulldogs!

ROSSFORD HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

MEMORIES...

THE PLAYERS - LADIES

1971 Pat Sloan
I remember the pep assembly in 1970 prior to the team heading to Columbus for the state tournament. I also re-
member the parade when the team returned home, it was amazing.
1973 Eva Zuchowski
I remember growing up during basketball mania in Rossford. I was 11 when we went to state in 1966 and a fresh-
man in 1975. I will always remember the sound of the packed fieldhouse and the vibration of the crowd.
1973 Joyce Verbosky Hood
I remember being part of the first group of girls to actually fully compete against other schools in the NLL. I also re-
member enjoying the entire men’s season in 1970 as they made it to state.
1977 Karen Corum
I remember all the skin I left on the floor while playing basketball. All the school dances and “sock hops” held there.
Being a gym assistant for Mrs. Swartz for 3 years and a basketball coach to so many great kids. All cheering from a
packed field house during a basketball game.
1977 Luann Verbosky Kralovic
I remember my freshman year and a vocabulary lesson and the word was atrocious, as in “The team foul shooting
last night was just atrocious”. I doubt any of us had to get a dictionary to figure out what that meant. Playing bas-
ketball for RHS has led to many long time friendships and valuable life lessons.
1978 Mary Jo Verbosky Leonard
I remember earning JV or Varsity R’s and watching my nephews play and more specifically Tommy Kralovic playing
alongside his brother Tyler and Tommy scoring his 1000th point.
1980 Diane Durco Lonchyna
My favorite memory was being a freshman and starting varsity for Rossford.
1980 Theresa Pietrasz Burkey
I remember sitting at the end of the bench hoping for a 20 point lead.
1980 Theresa Szczublewski
I remember in the girl’s locker room it was always interesting to see the emergency rations stored up in the rafters. I
always wondered how old they were. The locker room must have been a bomb shelter. Also, sitting at the end at the
bench with Theresa Spaulding hoping for a 20 point lead!
1981 Lorie Pietrasz
I remember the overtime win over Woodmore, co-champs of SLL that year on senior night. Also all the practices
with Sue Verbosky, JoAnn Szul and Ann Yoder!
1982 Sue Verbosky Yoder
I remember my teammates and how hard we worked but the fun that we had as well. Great friends then and that are
still friends today. Also, always looking up at every game and seeing my grandmother and parents. They were my
greatest fans at everything I ever did.
1984 Barb Young Nichols
I remember the nervousness you’d feel as you came up the stairs from the locker room, heard “Eye of the Tiger”
(which we referred to as Eye of the Bulldog) blasting over the speakers, and running into the gym for your lap
around the court before starting warm ups!

1984 Patty Badik Roman
I remember being an underclassman and practicing with the upperclassman…Lori Pietrasz, Sue Verbosky, Ann
Yoder, Lauren Szczublewski and my sister Barb (just to name a few).
1987 Amy Jerziorowski Austin
No favorite memory.
1987 Chris Connell Skowron
I remember playing at RHS and scoring 37 points vs Anthony Wayne.
1987 Mary Jo Anderson
I remember the field house was always my favorite place to be, either as a student, a player, and later a coach. No
matter who was playing or what sport there was always fans in the stands, parents and students both cheering.
Everyone was family.
1988 Bethany Ann Zuchowski Rust
I remember playing with the most athletically talented group of girls I have ever known. I also remember the smell
of the fieldhouse that I still carry with me today. Not a bad smell but a smell of hard work and shoes squeaking on
the floor.
1989 Tricia Jackson
I remember the 1989 game of RHS vs Bowling Green (they were first in NLL) however if we beat them they would be
co-NLL champs with Perrysburg. The entire Perrysburg girls’ basketball team came to watch that game and…we
won! It was fantastic rivals banning together and becoming friends.
1990 Caroline Zuchowski Eckel
I remember watching the 1987-1988 Bulldogs
1991 Dawn Zuchowski Heaton
I remember hitting a 3-point shot against Maumee to win the game. Also, I remember following the varsity boys
team to the regional finals.
1993 Jennifer Verbosky
1994 Alison Stolar
I remember winning the NLL my junior year or my sophomore year, winning MVP at a tournament and the all-star
game my senior year.
1995 Alexa Owen
I remember watching my father’s 1970 state team being honored at the field house.
1995 Erin Bartley Krift
I remember being excited every Friday night during basketball season watching the boys play. I always looked for-
ward to those games.
1995 Heather Heban Steer
I remember my freshman year. We had a huge community event to introduce Coach Lehman as his first season as
head coach was to start. They rolled out the old red carpet and each varsity boy and girl walked out arm and arm
and was introduced. Jeff Reif and I were the only freshman on each team and it was quite an occasion for our inau-
gural showing.
1997 Whitney Hopper Rofkar
I remember beating long-time rival Perrysburg in double overtime my senior year. Not only was it my highest scor-
ing game of the season with 15 points I secured the win at the foul line.
1998 Adrienne Owen Taylor

2000 Ashleigh Minarcin Keating
I remember being the NLL champs freshman year and getting to “cut the net”.

ber when the team sat crisscross applesauce and listened to Coach Hamilton perform " The Song about Colors".
2000 Elizabeth Urrutia
I remember the locker room shenanigans. Our team laughed a lot and had some great times together. Also, “cutting
the net” our freshman year.
2001 Alison Zemanski Heis
I remember when I scored 1,000 points at our 2nd to last regular season game at Northview my senior year. The ref
stopped the game and gave my teammates and I time to celebrate on the court. I was presented with the game ball
and my parents were asked to join me on the court in celebration, and the home and away crowd gave me a standing
ovation for several minutes.
2003 Noelle Owen Matson
I remember when my father came and talked to my volleyball team and they went 12-0 after those talks.
2006 Crystal Sloan
I remember what an honor it was to be a part of the GIRLS BULLDOG LEGACY when we played in the George Wolfe
Fieldhouse. It was BIG TIME to me and I loved every minute.
2006 Sarah Wagner
I remember so many great events. I remember winning a sectional championship in 2006 but falling short at dis-
tricts. I remember Mr Yenrick throwing a chair from our bench…that was priceless.
2008 Katie Keller Switala
I remember running through the stands under a tunnel of fans before our games and playing 4 years of basketball
with my best friends…cheesy but true.
2008 Kristina Yoder
I remember Coach Lorie yelling repeatedly one game “Yoder” every time someone made a mistake on the floor and
John Alexander yelling back from the stands “hey Coach you took her out of the game she is sitting next to you.”

cheer me on.

2015 Kirsten Keller
I remember having my sister as one of my coaches. I enjoyed all the time we spent together.

THE PLAYERS - MEN

1962 Jim Bartosky
I was class president and gave speech at graduation. I dropped the note cards with my talking points and when I picked
them up they were in random order. Needless to say I freelanced my entire speech and remembers nothing to this day
of what I actually said.
1964 “Moe” Minarcin
I was the hero of the night with a 64 foot hook shot at the end of the period. I led the Bulldogs to its 10th straight win
a single loss with 14 points.

1964 Dave Weaks
I was fortunate enough to be a Varsity member on the ’62-’63 NLL Co-championship team. Being like a spare tire, I
was always there when needed, but seldom saw playing time- I was the spare tire for a “Cadillac”! I will never forget
the thrill of running out on the floor to a full house of exuberant Bulldog fans to start warmups…and take my place on
the bench. It was and always will be an honor to be a member of a Bulldog team; you had to be there to understand-
the atmosphere was “electric”!
1969 Decatur Durden
I remember my sophomore year we played Perrysburg who was 17-2 at the time and tied with Rossford in the NLL.
We beat them before a packed fieldhouse and the place absolutely rocked.
1970 Ron Emch
I had too many great memories to narrow it down to just one.
1970 Steve Hess
I remember how unique and different our fieldhouse was compared to all others. The banners and our history and
our gym intimated our opponents.
1972 Doug Burwell
Maumee was another game the fieldhouse was busting at the seams. This game was to seal up another NLL title. We
played probably one of our best games beating them 70 to 59. I was playing for the best coach the NLL ever had, Coach
Stalma. He had us prepared for every game. Each player had scouting reports of the person they would be guarding
on the locker door, we knew his strengths and weaknesses so we could defend his strength and exploit the weakness.
He taught us that preparation and hard work was the key to success not only on the basketball court but in life.
1973 Joe Stalma Jr.
I remember beating Maumee in 1972 for the NLL Championship. The fieldhouse was packed with rows of chairs on
the floor. Maumee was as big as we were or bigger going 6’7” , 6’6”, 6’4”, 6’2”, 6’0’.
1974 Greg Marquette
It was my Sophomore year playing against Start (I was on the end of the bench lol) and a last second half court jump
shot by Craig Lynch, an All-State player and Furman University signee that went in at the buzzer that would have beat
us by one point was waived off and called no good. I still think it was good. Refs were on our side that day. But that
was a huge win against a very good city league team and my deceased friend Dennis Santus had a big game and kinda
used it as his coming out party. Start had Lynch 6’6” and Gleason 6’7” going against Joe Stalma 6’7” and John Lindsay
6’8”. Just a classic game. Place was packed with folding chairs 4 deep on the floor opposite the benches.
1975 Ken Boris
The tournament run in 1975 all the way to State playing at Ohio State University.
1975 Ralph VanderVlucht
Going to State in 1975; team coming back and spending the night at my house after games and boxing with gloves in
the basement.
1975 Doug Spohn
The janitor used to let the boys in and play around in the summer when it was locked up. I also remember when Coach
Stalma would say when you walk on this floor you are already 10 points ahead by just showing up.
1976 Al Richards
Playing on that floor each day for the years as a member of the Rossford Bulldogs was such an honor. The history of
NLL championships, sectional, district and regional championships, trips to the Columbus in my lifetime, the mentors,
and being coached by the greatest coach of our time, I am so blessed to have had this experience. I call upon those les-
sons every day, getting the most out of everything I do, all the great things I learned being coached by Joe Stalma. I
was part of something huge, something special. The heroes that played before me, Jim Pennix, the Webers, Mike
Owen, George Williams, John Endsley, Bill Heban, Joe Stalma Jr, Dennis Santus, I can go on and on. Watching these
guys play at such a high level, then putting on the Mighty Bulldog uniform myself, it was a dream come true.
1976 John Krall
I remember the cold Saturday mornings with 5th and 6th grade basketball, every Bulldog victory and Coach Heck
yelling “Hell’s Bell’s”.

1976 Tim Brown
I remember the whole 1975 season being a member of the team that went to State.
1977 Kirk Vandervlucht
I remember how the fans would get behind the team. I was very proud to be a member of the team. Also, the intensity
in Coach Stalma’s eyes; it was like, I told you to do this, Now Go Out and Do It. Period.
1977 Al Bishop
I remember hitting 8 jumpers in a row against Southview who was undefeated in the NLL in the second half of the sea-
son my senior year. We beat them too! We beat everyone in the second half of the season after a lousy start. I remem-
ber Big Joe gave me the keys to the field house and we use to come in at night and shoot around, ice cream in the locker
rooms and watching film was great too.
1977 Dan Artz
I remember Thursday night practice starting off with playing the song, “Sweet Georgia Brown”, and going over our op-
ponent stats for the next days’ game with Coach Stalma.
1978 Joe Pennese
I remember I scored 30 against Delta Senior Year. I hit the game winner with seconds left (No 3 pointers back then
lol) and Coaches Big Joe, Mr. Heck and Mr. Huss every day at practice. Great times!
1978 Denny Durco
I remember the Thursday before a home game we were supposed to bring our home jerseys for a pre-game practice.
My mother packed my maroon away jersey. I was afraid to come out of the locker room because I knew Coach Stalma
would be – not very happy. I walked out on the gym floor from the locker room, fixated on where coach was and he
spotted me immediately. He didn’t say a single word but just gave me “The Look”. I was never so scared in my life.
1978 David Biel
I remember I will always be one of Coach Stalma’s guys.
1979 David Hess
I remember running through the banner, pregame warm up and the spotlight announcement at the beginning of each
game.
1980 Jim Marquette
I remember as an elementary student going to watch the home games in a sold out field and sitting on the floor in four
deep folding chairs. You were watching your idols. Also, as a player playing against Perryburg in a sold out building
running through the student section entering the floor to the theme of “Rocky”! Once a Bulldog always a Bulldog!
1980 Mike Masnyk
I remember walking into the building on game nights and smelling the aroma of the freshly popped popcorn. To this
day that smell evokes very powerful and positive memories whenever I enter any basketball gymnasium. My senior
season I convinced Coach Stalma to allow the team to enter the court by running through the upper concourse and
through the home fans prior to entering the court for pregame warm-ups. Members of the Varsity R-club wearing
their jackets lined the concourse…the fans loved it and so did we!
1981 Gary Yoder
I remember sitting in the stands as a parent watching Kristina and Ben play for RHS on the same floor that holds such
great memories from when I played for Mr. Joe Stalma.
1981 Dan VanderVlucht
I remember from Coach Stalma where the life lessons he taught us while playing the game: 1. Preparation is key- we
used to get scouting reports on the other teams’ players. Coach Stalma made sure we were prepared. 2. Don’t forget
the fundamentals – Important to continue to hone your fundamental skills. We did a lot of pre-practice drills and foul
shooting! 3. Be a Team player – You can’t win the game yourself. Learn to work as a team, pass the ball. Some were
better at this than others! 4. Give it all you got – If you don’t, you were on the bench!
1982 Bob Gyori
I remember running out on the red carpet with the spotlight on me when starters were announced.

1983 Ivory Anderson
I remember my sophomore year against P-Burg and I blocked a guy’s shot up into the stands.
1983 Todd Miller
I remember making 25 foot buzzer beater to beat Lake in my sophomore year and celebrating in the locker room after
clinching the NLL title and playoff birth 82/83 football.
1983 Ken Kobylak
I remember how hard we worked at practice. I remember the great times when we were together. Those guys were
great friends in high school and are still great friends today.
1984 Dan Creps
Coach Stalma’s final game instructions and pep talk in the locker room had you absolutely prepared and fully focused
– followed by the brief walk with the team from the locker room to the back hall where you could hear the excitement
of the gym and your heart was pounding through your chest, not out of nervousness but out of excitement - just as the
cheer welcoming the team to the floor ended, the pep band cranked up into action and the audience was on their feet
accurately capture the energy of that moment, but it was one of the most powerful and positive feelings I have ever ex-
perienced in my life and I am forever grateful I was able to experience it.
1984 David Verbosky
I remember the 5:30am practices with Coach Hamen.
1984 Albert Sallee
I remember the first time practicing and playing games in the field house during the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade basketball
league.
1984 John Tooson
I remember sitting on the court while Coach Stalma taught us the Bulldog full court press. I loved every minute of him
teaching us how to play as a team.
1984 Jim Pietrasz
I remember getting my first start vs. Southview and coming out of the tunnel in the spotlight.
1985 Doug Austin
No memory that stands out.
1986 John Danford
I remember Senior Night 1986! I was so proud to walk across the floor with my mother on my arm.
1988 Kevin Weaks
I remember setting the single season pregame scoring record during the 1986-87 season that still holds to the day.
1989 Chris Pacer
I remember playing basketball for RHS was how we won on the last play of the game at District Finals of my senior
year to advance to regionals…Manny Durden coming cross court to block the game winning shot attempt!
1989 Manny Durden
I remember all the times we used to sneak into the fieldhouse over the summer to workout only to get chased out eventually.
1989 Dan Yoder
I remember the NLL champs ’88-89 district champs regional runner ups, winning district championship and beating
Perryburg at Perryburg twice junior and senior year and watching my big brother play as a little kid and being in awe
of them!
1990 James Heck
I remember the time I spent in the gym alone. There were mornings, afternoons, evenings and some nights that I went to
the gym alone. But most of the time in the gym alone was after everyone else had left after practice and Dad was still in the
coaches’ office working on scouting reports and game plans. The sounds of the field house was amazing. Even when there
was no one else around it seemed like I could hear the echoes of basketball shoes squeaking on the floor and whistles blow-
ing. It was like I could hear Coach Stalma and Dad’s voices coaching even when they weren’t around.

1991 Lazelle Durden
1992 Desmond Utley
I remember scoring the 99th and 100th points from foul line against Lake
1993 Chris Holifield
I remember winning the NLL basketball title my senior year, along with the girl’s winning it too!
1993 Andy Zuchowski
I remember when we won the league my senior year. We also went to Ponderosa buffet as a team most weeks of my
senior season.
1993 Jamie Kachmarik
I remember beating Anthony Wayne in out last home games of the year in 1993 and cutting down the nets in the field-
house because we were the NLL Champs! Our team was also Coach Heck’s last season as head coach, he went out a
champion!
1993 Corey Pacer
I remember running through the stands and out on the court at the beginning of the game with the band playing and
the fans cheering. It was such an honor for me to be a part of Rossford basketball because of our rich history!
1993 Steven Verbosky
1994 Mike Weaks
I remember the player introductions with the spotlight and red carpet.
1997 Joey Holifield
I remember having a nice run in the tournament my senior year and making it to regional semifinals.
1997 Jason Biniker
I remember when we beat the second ranked team in the state, Ottawa Glandorf, in the 1997 district semifinals. Also
I was part of the JV team that won the league title and ended the year on a 16 game winning streak, which included
snapping a 15 year drought of beating Perrysburg.

home. Always really liked coming to the court that way.
2004 Jeff McMahon

Tiger”. It was just so unique and couldn’t be done in any other gym but ours.

I remember was playing ball with lifelong friends…during a game for Coach Emch I had back to back turnovers and a
foul on the 2nd one…he kicked a chair up the stairs and broke his clipboard.

2008 Dustin Sattler
I remember when I was a kid, attending the games in the stands, watching players like Jimmy Ogdahl, Darren Paige,
and other players that have played before me and making me want to one day play as a Bulldog on the same court.
2008 Joey Wilson
I remember playing JV’s and scrimmaging the varsity. Jason Duly had a breakaway lay up and Coach Vorst came from
out of bounds and blocked Jason and his shot out of bounds.
2009 Tom Kralovic
I remember listening to my grandparents talk about how great the teams were in the “Stalma Era”. This instilled a
love of Rossford basketball from a very early age. Words of wisdom from Coach Stalma before a home game – whether
it was words of encouragement or something more tactical, anything he said I soaked up and tried to apply them to
the game and having the opportunity to play with my brother (Tyler Kralovic) and coached by our dad (Coach K).
2009 Jonathon Reitz
I remember my last game of my career on the court and Tommy Kralovic scoring his 1,000 point, and I scored the go
ahead basket in OT against Northview on senior night.
2010 Oliver Goss
I remember the first game of our senior year (2010) against a good Springfield team and we beat them by 35 and wiped
the floor with them. The energy was great and it was an incredible atmosphere to play in.
2010 Tyler Kralovic
I remember in my junior year and down 1 with 10 seconds left and Coach Vorst drew up a play to get my brother
(Tommy Kralovic) a look for the win. At the end of the huddle, Tommy told me if I made the pass, he’d make the shot.
The play was executed flawlessly, as I made a skip pass through defenders arms and he knocked down a fade away
three from the corner for the win with a hand in his face. Being able to play alongside my brother and coached by my
dad for 3 years on varsity is something I’ll never forget.

2013 Kerry Keller
I remember it was February 2012 and my parents took me to the Otsego home game and the team waited and wouldn’t
take the floor until I got there and everyone wondered what was going on. Then the team pushed me out in my wheel-
chair! Otsego team all stopped and came over to me and shook my hand as well as the coaches and referees. I sat the
whole game next to the team on the bench and then we took pictures after with the team and cheerleaders.

THE COACHES - LADIES

Mr. David Matthews
Mr. Bill Hamilton
I remember I had the privilege to be part of many memories as a coach and blessed to have had the opportunity to be
called coach. Also, the hours on the basketball floor and the good times I shared with the players win or lose. We
were and always will be “The Mighty-Mighty Bulldogs”!!
Mr. Toby Ledesma
I remember beating 1st place Elmwood in the field house.

THE COACHES - MEN

Mr. Joe Stalma
I have years of incredible memories. My guys always played hard and gave me everything they had. We had league
championships and state teams but all my teams were special to me.
Mr. Brian Vorst
I remember when we were playing Otsego in Feb 2012, it was the last home game of the year. At this time Kerry Keller
had been sick for a long time, but was feeling stronger and healthier. We were contacted and told that Kerry wanted to at-
tend the game that night. As the warm up period approached, we were waiting for Kerry to arrive and we stood anxiously
in the hallway with all of the doors closed. As the warm up clock was ticking down we had still not taken the floor, the
word came that Kerry was near. The officials asked for the captains, we were now under 8 minutes left in warm up. Soon,
Kerry arrived. Any worry that I had about our kids not being ready to play were soon dashed as the cheerleaders intro-
duced us and the doors flew open. Here was Kerry, leading us onto the floor in his wheelchair pushed by his team mates.
The sound of the crowd was more deafening than any gym that I have ever heard in my life. We went on to win the
game that night, but the game paled in comparison to the memory of Kerry leading us onto the floor. Kerry passed
away two months later.
Mr. Chuck Cox
I remember being able to build relationships with the players, coaches, fans and officials that will last forever is the
most important. Also, being a part of the 1989 regional runner-up team and coaching practices where the 3 on 2
continuous drill with Manny Durden, James Heck, and LaZelle Durden took Danny Yoder and Chris Pacer daily…I
would pay top dollar just to watch some of that again.
Mr. Steve Huss
I remember the 1975 state team. I remember my 1st JV team who went to Wauseon for 1sr game and was 11 points
down with 44 seconds to go and we won in overtime. Also, another year we beat AW at home early in the season by
44 points but when we played them late in the season it took OT to beat them the second time. That win gave me my
third outright JV NLL Championship.

Mr. Jerry Baumgartner
I remember I was keeping the scoreboard at the time and Whitey Hafner was one of the refs. He called a question-
able foul on Rossford and as he approached the score table to give the number of the player, a Rossford fan threw a
full bag of popcorn all over Whitey who immediately called a technical foul on the Rossford bench. The fans got
quite rowdy at that point as well as Coach Stalma.
Mr. Tom Kralovic
I remember being able to coach my sons Tommy and Tyler. I am thankful for the opportunity. Sometimes it takes
me back to 1980 and I am standing in the doorway waiting for pre-game warmups.

THE CHEERLEADERS

1972 Mickie Masnyk Gregory
I remember when the Varsity and JV cheerleaders would do our famous “ Yahoo “ cheer. It always got the crowd
riled up to cheer on our Bulldogs.
1979 Chris Durco Heban
I remember loving growing up in Rossford and attending RHS. I remember loving all my extracurricular events es-
pecially Friday night games , cheering and also playing basketball, volleyball and softball. My favorite memory
though is playing sports with my sister, Diane.
1981 Holly Steward
I remember I always thought we had The best gym/ fieldhouse anywhere. I felt proud to wear the RHS cheerleading
uniform and represent Rossford, our school and our team. I loved that we were down on the floor with the fans
above us. I will always remember the time I spent cheering on that court.
1982 Kelly McIntosh Rossler
I remember all the winning teams and the amazing community support. The crowd, no matter the age, would cheer
with us enthusiastically. I loved building the pyramids, making baked goods, and decorating the locker room. I also
loved when Coach Stalma got mad and threw his clipboard.
1982 Sandi Simpson Carter
I remember I loved cheering all through high school and supporting our team! I always loved the support of the
crowd, student body and the community.
1986 Laurie Yeack Nawrocki
I remember the fieldhouse was always the best place to play or cheer in. So much room compared to other gyms and
the great history associated with it. The energy was always amazing. Not only did the crowds show support for the
team but they cheered loudly when we did dance routines or cheers at mid court.
2010 Kirstey Besgrove Wilson
I remember tumbling during timeouts with Aubrey and Andrea. Getting some cheers and then Blair doing cart-
wheels, forward rolls and getting more applause than us!

THE PHOTOGRAPHER/COACH/PLAYER

1980 John Bauer
Player…
I remember showing up for practice putting on weighted vest, holding the medicine ball above my head and jumping
between the stair racks over and over. Coach Stalma pre -practices were exhausting.
1980 John Bauer
Coach…
I remember after practice with players putting in extra shots playing 21 with them or extra foul shooting.

THE SCOREKEEPER

1977 Janet Madden
I remember the way our students filled the whole side of the field house which is now “home” side, when I was in
high school.

THE ANNOUNCER

2003 Justin Reitz
I remember being able to announce the dedication of Joe Stalma Court as I was the PA guy for that game.

THE MANAGERS

1980 John Schramm
I remember just being the boys’ basketball team manager from the 7th to my senior year. I enjoyed every year with
Coach Joe Stalma.

1991 Glen Forbush
I remember the bouncy ball incident right before halftime against Maumee.

The Bulldog Foundation
needs you!!

Be a part of creating a hallway of pride in the new Rossford High School! The Bulldog Foundation
is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds for a project to create a special space in the
main entry hallway of the new high school to honor each of veterans, distinguished alumni, and
sports hall of fame inductees, as well as a rotating space for other organization and current events.

How can you help? You can make a donation to the Foundation or volunteer to help out. The fund raising goal is $250,000. The initial
founders were Ed and Linda Reiter. The Foundation has commitments from additional Founder level donors, but is looking for the sup-
port of all loyal Bulldogs to make this hallway of pride something truly to be proud of. The goal is to make the space into something
that will leave a positive impression on anyone visiting the school, from the youth of the community, families of those being honored,
and any and all Bulldogs.

Below are suggested giving levels, but no donation is too small. To give, you may visit The Bulldog Foundation website at
http://thebulldogfoundation.org or mail the donation to The Bulldog Foundation, 200 Dixie Highway, Rossford, OH 43460. If you
would like to schedule a meeting with a representative of The Bulldog Foundation, send an email to [email protected].

Levels:
Founder: $10,000
All Founders receive special recognition on a Founder’s plaque mounted in the main entry hallway of the high school. Also,
they will be recognized on the foundation’s website, at foundation events and in publications and advertising.

Legacy donors will be recognized on the foundation’s website, at foundation events and in publications and advertising.

If you would like to volunteer to help The Bulldog Foundation, please send an email to: [email protected].

Bulldogs…reading of your fond memories on Joe Stalma Court and in George G. Wolfe
Fieldhouse it is apparent that this is/was a special place for you to play and or cheer on
your beloved Rossford Bulldogs. The Rossford Record Journal was there right alongside
many of you, we shared the thrills of victories as well as the agony of defeat and chronicled
it in our pages over the years. We appreciate all of your support through the years and
hope that with the new building set to be opened that your continued support would con-
tinue.

I’ve had the pleasure to work with Gary Yoder in producing this commemorative program,
you can see the gleam in his eyes when he talks about this special place. Our hope is that
you are able to take this program with you, look back at this “last hurrah” and have many
years of memories come back to the forefront of your mind.

Enjoy your “last hurrah”, share in your fellowship with one another and take great pride in
what you have done inside these walls.

All my best wishes to all Bulldogs near and far!!

Chet Welch
