DIRECTOR’S NOTE Every year I direct Panthers-on-Parade, I’m reminded how awesome the students are at Schuylkill Valley. This year’s group you are about to see is no exception. They practiced together in preparation for auditions, celebrated the cast list announcement, and formed a tight friendship and bond throughout the rehearsal process. They cheered each other on, took time to practice with each other, and lifted each other up through any bumps along the way. One of the important lessons that is taught in the story of The Little Mermaid, is the importance of having good friends in your life. Ariel had Sebastian, Scuttle, and Flounder. They were there supporting her to help her achieve her dreams. Those are the type of friends we should hold on to. The ones who stick with you through thick and thin. I hope the cast and crew take the friendships formed in this production and stay connected long after the set is taken down. I would personally like to thank the Panthers-on-Parade team for their friendship and collaboration into taking Disney’s The Little Mermaid from the script to the stage. It is a collaborative effort to meld all of our visions together into what we think this show should look and sound like. The cast and crew also deserve recognition for this as well. They wouldn’t hesitate to make suggestions, ask questions, and offer their creative ideas. They took ownership in the process of the look of this show. The original Little Mermaid movie came out when I was a high school student who babysat every weekend. It was on repeat at many of the houses I visited. We sang along to “Under the Sea”, giggled at Scuttle, hid behind the pillows when Ursula unleashed her evil powers, and cheered as Ariel’s wishes came true. We hope that the magic of this tale is passed along to everyone who comes to see it. “Life is the bubbles under the sea!” Kim E. Makosch Director/ Producer
