About the Founders
Sabrina & Selina
Spotlight Theatre Company was founded in
the summer of 2021 by Sabrina & Selina
Soto. These Sisters have given their lives to
cultivating the art form of live theatre.
Having always believed that theatre is more
than an extracurricular or hobby, the Soto
Sisters aim to unite communities by
creating live innovative work that is a
celebration of the performing arts.
The Soto Sisters believe that if you give
light, people will find their way . They hope
to shine a light and show people new ways
to express themselves creatively.
Jacqueline Sifuentes - Technical Director
Coming into Heathers, I was unaware of what it
really meant to take the lead in a production of
this magnitude. I have led production teams
working alongside Sabrina and Selina before, but
never something as big as this. With the help of
my technicians, I managed to bring the artistic
director's vision to life. I walked away from this
learning what I am really capable of. Shout out to
the Pharrmily for teaching me almost everything I know and for molding
me into the leader I am now. I hope my crew had a wonderful time
working with me - if there is anything you guys could have learned from
me, it is that "life is not so serious!" Have fun with your passions, and it’s
okay to not always have the answers. It’s okay to mess up! There is no
problem too big that we cannot fix together :-) I hope you all enjoy the
show, and if you don’t - that’s on you!
Gonzalo Delgado - Light Designer & SM
Gonzalo Delgado is a rising senior at Robert Vela
High School. He has been with Spotlight Theatre
since the inaugural production of “You’re A Good
Man Charlie Brown”, where he began his journey as
the resident Stage Manager for the company. When
designing Heathers the Musical, it was especially
important to capture the raunchy and disorganized
vibe that the teenagers experience within this show.
Likewise, the design itself is built off of the characters innermost thoughts,
with a color palette that represents an individual's feelings, along with
specials that characterize their grounding to the narrative of the story. As
the production comes to a close, Gonzalo would like to give thanks to his
friends and family, especially his mom. He would also like to thank his
Director, Mr Moralez, Sabrina and Selina, and the entirety of the RGV
Theatre Community for their continued encouragement throughout his
journey.
Vera Alonzo - Assistant Stage Manager
Vera Alonzo is an incoming junior at PSJA
SouthWest Early College High School. She says
working with Spotlight has allowed her to take
everything she's learned about theatre and apply it
to a real production. She has also been able to
learn more about the technical aspect of what
goes into making a full blown show. She has had
the opportunity to learn what it means to be an
assistant stage manager and about the work that is put in behind the
scenes. Being at Spotlight has allowed her to make friends and form
bonds with people who she had only ever seen in other productions. She
is incredibly grateful for the opportunity of being a part of this fantastic
production and she hopes you enjoy Heathers: The Musical.
Catherine Neeley - Choreographer
The minute I learned to walk was when dance
began for me; it has been a constant in my life and
is something I will never live without. I have been
dancing since the young age of four, and I have
been choreographing and teaching since I was
fifteen. I have worked with Danzforce Academy, as
well as dance teams and theatre companies all
throughout the Rio Grande Valley. I feel eternally
blessed to have experienced such talent in our community. I have had
the pleasure of choreographing the following productions: Shrek, Beauty
and the Beast, Seussical, High School Musical, Little Shop of Horrors,
Aladdin Jr., and Heathers. I truly hope you enjoy my vision being brought
to life by these amazing, talented individuals. Realizing the potential of
the performers through my choreography has always been of paramount
importance.

A Note From The Director
Sabrina A. Soto
Being in high school has always been a
battlefield. Whether it’s surviving the
perpetual social warfare, or recovering from a
pandemic and returning to in-person school
after spending 2 years at a screen, the
struggles of high school are timeless. And
while there have always been the popular
kids who have ruled the school, we can all be
grateful we never had the Heathers.
Heathers The Musical (based on the 1989 movie of the same name),
is the anecdote to high school drama that gives you permission to
laugh and cry while re-evaluating all of the serious issues facing
these students. Originally written in the 80’s, the then absurd
themes sadly resonate all too well with the students of today. This
cast tackles the difficult material and subject matter that this show
introduces with grace and courage. Through the lens of comedy and
absurdity, this musical puts a magnifying glass on the cracks of our
society and the damage that it can cause. From unwanted sexual
attention, to attempted suicide, to gun violence, Heathers the
Musical forces us to face the tremendous obstacles, challenges, and
variables that face students today. By highlighting the absurdity of
1980’s camp that Heathers is built upon, the gravity of the issues
that this show tackles is brought to light.
While giggling at the quintessential 80’s nostalgia, scrunchies, teased hair,
acid wash, and legwarmers, make as much noise as you can for our
incredible Company of Heathers the Musical! Sit back, grab a slurpee and
some corn nuts (BQ obviously), and may the croquet match begin!
